looks familiar, doesn't it?
good attempt.

Like Oz pearlman?
Ya.. Got the idea from it.. Hehe..

Well done :) Much better than the previous 2 videos :)
The sleights are much more natural looking. Although I am still not sure about the move where you show the top card, the little push doesn't make sense to me. But overall your moves are MUCH better than the 1st 2 videos. Good B)
And the presentation is much more "friendlier" now. Closer to the original Colour Monte patter i believe.
It is not very good showmanship to make the spectator keep guessing where's the card you you keep telling them "you are wrong!". It's kinda confrontationational and make it look like you are making a fool out of the spec. The spec is more likely to heckle you when they can.
By turning the tables around and saying that you met this guy who was frustrating you, you are turning the tables on yourself and the spec is free to be entertained "at your expense". Good change with that :)
Practice it with some magicians and show it to layman when you are ready :)

Thanks for the comments.. Will take note of that..
About using a storyline, i think it is better.. Cause, u dun need to consider what u say will offend the audience anot.. cause the person u are talking about is urself.. Not the audience.. But it is better to get them involved..
Tom's way is to make them guess.. But tell them where the actual card is, in another way telling them they are wrong.. I think several methods are okie, juz a certain style that the magician will adapt..
Ya.. Practising this and also some other routines.. will also display other routines here if possible..
Thanks for the advise again..

Why does the patter sound like kryptikalism's version of Color Monte? Did ya like, 'copy' his pattering ideas (and his no music policy?)? Hehe.. Anyway, its better than the earlier two.
Try to look more shady, and be swifter and sneakier in this kinda routine (or just try to look swift). The moment you make a slight pause, the effect drops a little. When you turn over the cards, try to give the impression of, "AHA, gotcha!!"
I realise that on Monte routines, be it 2 Card, 3 Card or Color Monte, almost 99% of the time, the spectator feels stupid at the end of the Monte. I know this may sound bad, but seriously, make them feel fooled (and stupid) :P . Take note though, this should only be done on Monte stuff.. Not on other routines. This approach doesn't work well elsewhere.
Btw, DKim, try to feel as though you are selling something. You know those back alley Monte games where they have bookies and stuff? Try to feel as though you are under those circumstances as you reveal each card. Pretend that you are THAT guy. I think kryptikalism does it quite well, if i might add.. B)
Lastly, IMHO, i feel that you should've got your Black Magic Woman running as background music. The effect would feel more shady and hustler-like. :)

Like the idea. But must also understand that I dont like to make a fool out of the audience, thats y i like to use situation base, like i am the one being fooled during a meetup with a guy.
But on the other hand, i am thinking of using an approach that, i am telling a story that i being fooled by this guy but also i will ask the audience where they think is the card, esp the last card, i will ask them what card they think it is.
I think it is also better to go slow and with a pace, not too fast with the move, i tried it just now and it seems like people dont catch it fast enough. I should pause at some part and let them absorb?
My personal views..
what u guys think?
Barney - April 15, 2005 04:38 AM (GMT)
If you do it fast, you gotta be REALLY convincing, like as though you are selling something. Patter has to change drastically. Not easy, though. Are you good at selling stuff? Then try the fast way. That's my method for all Montes. Maybe our personalities differ, that's why you find it weird.
I find both approaches equally easy, but i still prefer it fast. It gets the mood going.
Btw, like i said, Montes have that "HAHA! FOOLED YA" ending behind them.
For my other tricks, my friends are simply amazed, and some try to figure out how i did it. For my Montes, no matter how i present them, slow or fast, they still wanna punch me, cos it automatically makes them feel so stupid..
Go figure.
Btw, try this. After each revelation of the card, LOOK at everyone in the eyes. Then get back to ur act.

Thanks Thanks!!! Hmm, I got a magic that is all abt presentation.. Need some advise on that. Any helpers?
GordonLi - April 18, 2005 10:28 AM (GMT)
looks ok, u can try perfecting the DLs (to look more natural)or using block pushoffs instead.
good one! :)
LarryDK - April 18, 2005 10:37 AM (GMT)
I have changed the DL method... Cause i not used to the previous DL that i am using, cards will slip out some times. But not going to pin it up again, since i keep pinning color monte. But still i need you guys' comments on that DL, so if u guys dont mind, it will be this link:
http://s6.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=075AJ319ZCEK728IY9MJYL1MFMAnd no music, nothing, just me talking like i am with an audience. So comments about my patter is also welcome.
Hope You guys will like it.
Thanks again.

the handling for the front part looks more wierd than the previous clip. i guess its cos its done without a table?
im not very good at this though (i always do it at a table), but 1 tip would be to try and improve the handling for the strolling situation. the later half of this clip is quite well done and handling is rather smooth.
LarryDK - April 18, 2005 11:32 AM (GMT)
Thanks... Got what you mean.
If it is strolling situation, it will look weird, no doubt, more suitable for table. Hmm, i will think about it though, cause it will be great if i can bring it into street style.
Barney - April 18, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
I think i like this version the most! You look comical.. You were like, bobbing around a little in the vid. Kinda funny. ^_^
Erm.. I think that's the 4th Color Monte that you have put up.. Why don't you put up another effect?
I think most of SMC has seen enough of Color Monte already. That's just my opinion. Do try doing other effects man! I would gladly appreciate it.. :)
LarryDK - April 18, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
Ya, thinking of wat to put up. Need an audience though.
Will get my friend to help me in the other routine.
Thanks alot for the advices.
