Andy - April 15, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
I think spiritual is trying to say that this is the guy who learnt his tricks and then went round performing them (hence exposing due to lack of practise)

Theres a thread called "Sorry Guys...i Let Down Magic" under the misc section talking about this matter ^_^

lukold - April 15, 2005 03:45 PM (GMT)
hey , i can give you a good tip , PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE
PERFORM PERFORM PERFORM
But practise before performing , right pam? haha

Aloy - April 15, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
Spiritual, if we are not rejecting you for ambigiously fishing for method for a very standard card force, maybe you should consider your friend over there a little slack too. B)

7vnWn, go buy some good DVDs :)

GordonLi - April 15, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
its not about the number of "tricks" u know, its quality. tricks and numbers are not representative of quality. quality first! :)

You want some tips? Try 'tipping' us 1st. :g:

Nothing is free here man. Except for Showmanship Tips and Performance Tips. ^_^

Should the word 'tip' turn into 'effect/ trick', only then would we start talking about Money Tips. B)

Btw, you could start with books and/or DVDs. Go ask around in this Forum. Eg. marketplace etc..

Here's a tip, perfect those 10 tricks you know.

neotrident - April 23, 2005 03:48 AM (GMT)

exohordon - April 23, 2005 04:00 AM (GMT)
I usually tip pretty waitresses only.

*Looks at exo*
*Bish exo*

Hahahaha..

Truthfully, i don't even know how many effects i got up my sleeve, what ever just comes in mind. I would do it, unless i am doing a Gig... Hahaha

But Seriously, even if you practice and practice for months at home with those 10 effects, you certainly wouldn't get anywhere. Show it to a couple of magicians or someone you trust, i usually do it to my brother for any new effects which i learnt or came up with.

So practice is not the only way to improve either, if you practice certain stuff wrongly, then it would be bad. So it would be good if you have some professional to guide you. Maybe someone with experience

Ben - April 26, 2005 03:59 PM (GMT)
don't use the word 'trick'. it's too low class for magic.

wad trick ?

we are magicans, we deal with magic and we are praying to demons and devils' souls for the dark power to make cards float, making coins dupe and tearing up napkins and restore back..

HAIL ALL MAGICANS ~

haha... i gone nuts liao.. :g:

GordonLi - April 27, 2005 11:57 AM (GMT)
i dun like using the word "trick" either, in fact, u would hardly see or hear me using it.

trick implies that my purpose is to deceive the audience, and making use of their weakness.

rather, i would like to think myself as sharing the magical experience with them, letting them encounter a world of mystery and fantasy, its suppose to be fun for both parties.

but, i will never claim that the magic is real though, only that the focus is on mystery, not on the deceiving.

wow, sounds like one of those great sayings. :)

tips, it would be show the 10 tricks you know to your mother and ask for opinions everytime until she begs for you to stop. but don't stop, continue showing her the 10 tricks until she thinks the 10 tricks are perfect. but don't stop, show her every week, like a weekly schedule, to maintain that perfect standard...

that what i do...

hihs - April 27, 2005 12:09 PM (GMT)
but... it will drove your mother crazy.. (my mum will be like that)

This is kinda off topic, but people tend to refer to effects as "tricks" anyway. My school newsletter termed magic as a form of "trickery". <_<

GordonLi - April 27, 2005 01:36 PM (GMT)
its general perception on magic.

many ppl think magicians are out there to trick them, and this might give rise to hecklers.

whenever possible, im trying to "re-educate" these ppl to recognise magic's place in history, culture, entertainment and the arts, and its all about them having fun, not being fooled.

LarryDK - April 27, 2005 08:13 PM (GMT)
ya, agreed.

Nowadays, most people will have the thinking that magicians are out to trick them, and thats why people wont enjoy the magic in it. I have watched a video before, a magic video, and the guy inside mentioned that dont make a fool out of the audience but make a fool out of yourself. It will disarm the audience and wont have a negative impact on the audience. But it can be hard sometime, since most of the tricks, u wont narrate yourself into the trick, but actually you will need to narrate the audience into the trick.

My 2 cents thoughts
David Kim

ksat90 - April 28, 2005 07:35 AM (GMT)
That's a nice analysis DavidKim. :)
But I think that if you are able to be casual yourself and try to make the audience relaxed, I think they won't really "think" that they are being tricked.
I think it depends on the audience. If they really want to enjoy the effects of magic, it's up to them, right? Only hecklers want to spoil the fun.

LOL...

Kev, we've got another resident funny guy *grin*

Here's my advice/ tip/ honest 2 cents worth...

Go and master the 10 tricks you know and do them well :) There's always plenty of sources out there to learn from. But knowing how something's done is totally different from mastering the moves and slaying your audience.

That's where the magic is ^_^

ksat90 - April 28, 2005 08:32 AM (GMT)
Hm... That's very agreeable.

Alexander - April 28, 2005 10:12 AM (GMT)
Yea, like what they say 'Learn fewer tricks, do better magic'

Blackwing - May 7, 2005 03:50 AM (GMT)
here's a tip. Learn as many sleights as possible. Master DLS, simple pa**es. Focus on one sleight which you know you're doing well and become world famous. Oh create your own tricks and we'll really respect you. Hmmm I'm new in SMC as well ( not new in magic) so I'm signing up for as many charity events as possible to show SMC my worth. Peace.

Hi, i was like u when i started, but now i learn if i can master 1 magic well i will be the best, sad to said till now i had not master any. So just master what u had then u will be the best. B)

lllusion112 - May 12, 2005 08:19 AM (GMT)
pick1 trick first, the 1 tht u knoe lar. practice the trick in front of a mirror, then after u perfected it, try doin the trick wth ur eyes closed (this may sound funny bt it worked for mi), later show it some1 tht is supportive, where they will nt tell the secret, and discuss wth him or her whether u can inprove on it. after this u can start going out to perform!!!

p.s. dun go around begging ppl for seeing u perform :P
