Levitation (lev’I ta shun): to rise or cause to rise in the air, esp. In apparent
defiance of gravity.
Levitation is a phenomenon of psychokinesis (PK) in which objects, people, and
animals are lifted into the air without any visibly physical means and float or fly
about. The phenomenon has been said to have occurred in mediumship,
shamanism, trances, mystical rapture, and demonic possession. Some cases of
levitation appear to be spontaneous, while spiritual or magical adepts are said to
be able to control it consciously.
There seems to be several general characteristics about levitation. The duration
of the phenomenon may last from a few minutes to hours. Generally it requires
great amount of concentration or being in a state of trance. Physical mediums
who have been touched during levitation usually fall back to a surface.
Levitations of saints usually are accompanied by a luminous glow around the
body.

The Balducci Levitation
The Balducci Levitation - is an illusion that can be performed almost anywhere,
anytime. It uses no wires, strings, rigs, camera tricks, etc.
This is a highly restrictive, angle-sensitive trick. You have to practice your angles
over and over to get used to them. One bad angle or position and the illusion is
blown!
The Chameleon
TRICK EFFECT:
Magician is seen to levitate inches off the floor from three sides
Liberal Levitation
TRICK EFFECT: You levitate off the ground and then spin 180
degrees in the air; you spin back and the float to the floor.
Raven's Flight
Effect: A magician stands facing the spectators he suddenly levitates right off the
ground.
The spectators can even look under his feet to see there is no support.
All Man Levitation
TRICK EFFECT: A magician sits down in a chair and puts a sheet
over him. Suddenly, he rises one foot in the air. Shoes, everything comes of the
ground. The audience is dumbfounded.
The Couch Levitation
TRICK EFFECT :
The assistant is brought up to center stage. She is placed in a reclining position
on a couch. Then covered with a large cloth. She is commanded to rise. Once
she has risen to a height of one foot above the couch, the couch is taken away
and the performer walks all around the floating woman. She continues to rise
until she is well over the head of the performer. Then she slowly descends until
she is level with the performer's head. Again she begins to rise. This time, the
performer takes hold of the cloth and while she is
rising, the cloth is whisked away. The woman is gone, vanished right in front of
the audience.
Another one of those annoying levitations!
TRICK EFFECT :
Well, this is another one of those levitations that we are all sick of seeing, but
mine's a little different. Mine is an easy stage levitation that uses one secret
assistant. Here it is. You are on a stage with nothing but a table of your props,
and a cloth draped over the
edge of it. You pick up the cloth and hold it in front of you. Then, you start to
rise -about 3-4 feet in all. It is obvious that you are not on the ground anymore.
For further proof that you are up there you start to rise outward until you are
almost parallel to the floor.
The Vampire's Cape -Coat Jacket Levitation
TRICK EFFECT :
magician takes off his diner jacket and lays it down by his feet, as he pulls the
jacket up - his two feet rise with it - both visibly off of the ground!!!
Mirror Levitation
Effect: Magician stands inside a box, two doors open to reveal the magician
legs. The magician can be seen levitating off the ground. The magician then
jumps out of the box and shuts the doors.
Zero Gravity
Masklyns Barstool
Effect: A magician sits on a chair and says, "I will be in this sitting
position two feet above this chair". He then stands up and covers his legs
with a blanket but you can still see his shoes. All of a sudden he feet rise up
two feet in the chair, he is now in a sitting position two feet above the
chair! He then floats back down, takes the blanket off and walks away.
Fearsons Fabulous Floatation
Rue Morgue
Effect:Magician drapes a blanket over him except for his head, then floats off the
ground and then comes back down. He takes off the blanket and shows it to
everyone.
Ghost Jump
The effect: the magician says he’ll try a very special jump. Then he suddenly
rises as in a jump, but he floats in midair long enough to mystify everyone.
People can even see under his feet, even on the street, and they will swear they
saw the magician float more than a foot off the floor!
Dracula Rising
EFFECT: The spectator’s are called into a darkened room, only to witness the
magician in a catatonic trance, “come no further,” he shouts and the spectator’s
witness him convulse and slowly begin to rise off of the ground – he hovers for
what seems like an eternity and then slowly descends.
Andruzzi Ascending
Effect: A magician has one person stand behind him and another stand in front
of him. The magician then starts to levitate off the ground! Both people can see
his feet rise off the ground. The magician comes down and walks away.

Do u have "Qing" Levitation where u sit with your leg fold something like Yoga sitting position and use your "internal energy" or "Qing" U rise 1 to 2" above the ground and u can move forward in sitting position! I think it is not in magician handbook! :P :P

Elevator LevitationThe levitation seems nice if presented nicely. But its too expensive.
Ning - October 7, 2004 09:01 AM (GMT)
Ooooh... I so love his pyro dancing cane effect too... sorry, side tracking from the levitation topic. Man, honestly, I'm no expert in this field. The only one I know is the The Balducci Levitation which doesn't work all the time <LOL> Ok... it has actually NEVER really worked for me *paiseh* Anyone really into the other types of levitation? Show your stuff on Friday night!!!! B)
JamKid - October 7, 2004 02:01 PM (GMT)

Right now, the most anticipated self-levitation is Invisible Force by Devin Knight.
Wanna know why?
1)You float pretty damn high.
2)The specs can look under your feet WHILE YOU ARE FLOATING.
3)It's angle proof.
and for the final killer...
4)You can alter it so that you can FLOAT OVER WATER.
I hear it's coming out in the near future...probably a month or two... so do look out for it. It will be sold as a manuscript at $40USD They teach you how to make your own gimmicks.

What is really cool about INVISIBLE FORCE, don't confuse it with Retro-Gravity... is that INVISIBLE Force would be a killer TV effect.
Really and truely, and TIM can vouch for this. Once in the air, a TV camera could pan and shoot below your feet and the cameraman could slowly walk around you shooting under your feet.
In other words, the cameraman would walk in a complete circle around you shooting at your feet with a shoot that was far enough back to give them a clear view under your shoes. The camera would never pull away and there would be NO edits. Yet nothing would be seen at any time. The camera would GO FULL CIRCLE remaining on the same viewing plane. There would be no sudden stops or raising the camera to shoot above critical spots. The plain fact is "There Ain't NO critcal spots to avoid shooting!"
Had I not tipped the work to TIM and part of it to Corey I would never have posted the above as nobody would have believed it. However now that Tim knows the secret and Corey the main principle, I think both would agree hands down, that the above could easily be done using just the standard method.
Yes Folks that is just how strong INVISIBLE FORCE is. For those thinking about body harnesses. No way. Let me put it like this.
IF you were doing a gig for the PLAYBOY Channel you could have a totally nude girl step up on the stool which you remove from under her feet leaving her in mid air. At that point, the camera man could walk around her completely shooting a complete circle around her.
You could have her completely surrounded by a circle of men watching this from start to finish with no clue as to how she was in the air. The fact that the girl is totally nude would eliminate any idea of hidden body harness or supports.
Yes this can be done almost anywhere under any conditions.
Just had to mention this, but NO, unlike some outdoor TV floats, there is NO CRANE with wires holding you up. All you need is the invisible force gimmick.
Sounds incredible but Invisible Force allows you to do all that and more. I am not suggesting or condoning the use of a nude girl in doing this. I don't wish to come off as a sexist. The above example which could actually be done is to show you full range of possibilities with this new technology.
It will also help eliminate many of the wild guesses on how this is being pulled off since this more or less wipes out any method being used today, INCLUDING STAGE levitations.
Darn, the more I think about it, Invisible Force is almost too good to release! Just kidding.
Is this the last and ultimate word on levys? NO way people. I'm expecting some real miracles from Corey King. Now that I've shown him that angle barriers can be broken; it has inspired him.
In our discussions, Corey informed me he now knew ANGLE PROOF levitations were possible and that he was going to start working on his own ideas for angle proof levitations.
In our discussion, Corey mentioned a Hollywood CAMOFLAUGE technique I had long forgotten. I think this has definite possibilites and is an approach I hadn't even thought of. Although I don't think the technique he mentioned would work totally surrounded, I do think it would give a much broader viewing area and most importantly give the audience a clear view under the feet.
My God, what have I started! I can envision a whole new era of Angle Proof and near Angle-proof self levys flooding the market.
This reminds me of the 4 MINUTE MILE barrier. For years runners thought it was impossible. Then Roger Bannister in 1954 did it under minutes and proved it could be done. Knowing that other runners have since then broken the 4 minute barrier.
For years we've been conditioned to think totally surrounded self-levys were impossible. Now that I've shown it is possible and practical, it will open up a new frontier in magic.
Corey is following my lead and I trust others will follow.
Where are these things going? I honestly don't know. Tim told me something I can't go into details about but is amazing even to me.
Neither Tim nor I can go into details or answer questions but I understand someone has developed a self-levy where you reach heights of 12 inches off the ground (and this isn't just for one second either!) This may be on the market next year. That's all I know or can say.
The point being, I've only touched the tip of the iceburg. In my mind I see hundreds of possibilities and methods I've yet to experiment with. There is no limit to how high we can rise (pun intended) if we put our minds to it.
Hey Tim and Corey
Here is something that just dawned on me and since you guys know the workings of the Invisible force stool method...
Imagine the magician on the beach in swim trunks with one of the important secrets hidden in the sand.
Get the picture, barefooted floating in the air away from everything with a clear view of the sand under his feet with girls surrounding him. NOTHING but sand in view and viewed from every angle, yet totally invisible from every view. You know what would be hidden in the sand. Is that cool or what? I only made this a public post instead of a private to let others see another possibility with this.
Here is something to really get you going. It couldn't be done with the standard Invisible Force but imagine a revised unit completly hidden in the sand, motorized and with a remote control unit. Using the the technology in this manner, the stool could be completely eliminated, the magician could walk to the RIGHT spot on the beach and have the people surround him. As they watch from every angle he rises up to 5 inches above the sand. The camera could pan every angle. One of the people in the crowd could work the remote. The magician could slowly float down and walk away with NOTHING to be seen. No stool to carry.
Of course this couldn't be done with the version we will release on the market but you easily see how the principle could indeed make for the ultimate outdoor levitation. This would only be suitable for a national TV show. Even the camera men wouldn't know how it was done and the real audience would be just as baffled as the home audience. Any other details regarding this version will be discussed off line but I think you understand where I am going with this version.
Corey, this will make sense to you to, since you know the basic workings of the Invisible Force, I think you will fully realize where I am coming from when I speak of a motorized unit hidden in the sand. Think of the possibilites man. The upper gimmick on the *C
we discussed being covered with sand and the invisible force being motorized to do the rest.
Don't get me going now, but I can see this being applied to water. Imagine the magician not only walking on water but actually floating above the water with a clear view under his feet! Tim, based on what I've shared with you, you know the principle could be adapted to do even this. Corey is this beginning to click now? Think about it man.
i rip this off penguin forum .... sounds totally crazy
Aloy - October 8, 2004 01:03 AM (GMT)
Sounds like false advertising to me. And too good to be true for USD$40. But i will definitely be looking out for it. It just all sound a little crazy to me.
I remember some time ago a guy in Ultimatemagic forum tried to convince people that he has created the ultimate magnetic device which can "push" a person into the air. He says he was gonna release that in a few years time but just looking to swap manuscripts with people with his inventions.
I had a good laugh with that.
Hope this is not that guy....
JamKid - October 8, 2004 02:06 AM (GMT)
i read in the magic cafe that the price will be something like $140 to $300+ depending of the version, apparently 3 are being mentioned there.
there no pic/video available after soooo long... i'm doubting whether it'll be published at all now....
Ning - October 8, 2004 04:27 AM (GMT)
Yeah man... this CERTAINLY sounds too good to be true! Hmmmm... <_< Many doubts...
Well, please do post updates anyways if you hear anything else. This is certainly interesting to note :)

The 12 inch float is ALIUN if I'm not wrong. Personally I love levitations but no self-levitation really proved it's worth. Most are just too angly... too many limitations... I am looking forward to Invisible Force.

wow... invisible force!!! OMG...
float over water? wow... that's amazing man....
yeah... i personaly dont like doing self levitation effects coz of angle probs. but abt invisible force... wow....
but im sure there is a downside to every levitation effect. just have to see it being done first to really believe it.
