MiloKing - May 4, 2005 01:32 AM (GMT)
high.oops.hi.
how do u guyz perform for magis? i have a few in school who sumtimes i do tricks to...esp one guy who knows every single trick of mine..of course he didnt learn it but he straight away can tell what the trick is..laymen dont see it at all..i just dun understand..i can get pretty tensed up if im forced to perform for a magician..some of them really like to expose u ya know.and i just cant figure out how is it possible to know eery single sleight involved in the trick except the set-up or the routine.

The great thing about performing magicians is that you can actually take advantage of what they know and fool the shit out of them. REALLY place that coin in your hand. Crap around with them and say "was that your card? of course it was, they're ALL your cards!" then return their deck to them. I mean, it's the same thing with laypeople, but in reverse... instead of manipulating what they don't know, you manipulate what magicians DO know, and use it to your advantage.

HaXX.

hey i never thought of it that way...thats cool..coull u be a little more specific? btw im into mental and cards...seldom coins at all.

Kevin - May 4, 2005 02:29 AM (GMT)
The coin example was just a general observation, not directed at you specifically. In fact, I don't really have much specific to say, other than to just have a good time and crack jokes that only other magicians will "get"... with magicians, I like to entertain as well, but there's always room for a magician fooler :D

Anyone else have stuff to say?

Andy - May 4, 2005 03:03 AM (GMT)
Hey! Kev is still fooling me all the time despite me knowing a little of magic!!

So its all in the presentation i guess!!

Cheers B)

Yeah, I do sometimes. Just to kill boredom in school. :P

Aloy - May 4, 2005 08:56 AM (GMT)
Do old tricks :)
Most hobbists are into the latest DVDs and the latest marketted effects. Doing old tricks found in old books often gets them. :)

I actually take it 1 step further and do not just old tricks but sleightless ones. Wuss maybe, but it sure is a lot less stressful ;)

Blackwing - May 4, 2005 09:25 AM (GMT)
normally when I perform for other magicians, I only do tricks that I invented or I try to put in my own invented passes or slieghts. If I know that someone's magic skill is on par with me, I try to impress with flourishes. If he/she is better at both flourishes and magic, I'll just say huh? whats magic? Anyway all my magic friends don't expose my tricks so its kinda fun to perform for them. peace.

R_jayz - May 4, 2005 10:12 AM (GMT)
i hate people(magicians) who exposes tricks... but most of the time these so called magicians only KNOW the trick(the secret) but dunno how to perform the the whole thing. i think that's because these people only read up on free tricks on the net and never really practice them... so what i do is that i tell them to do it(straight away when they expose the secret), and 90% they dunno....

LarryDK - May 4, 2005 01:58 PM (GMT)
Ya, Kevin is good in that, I get real entertained by him. Even though i know the stuffs. Hehe.

Hmm, Either do to him or dont do. Do more of those self working tricks more than sleightful ones. Well, it really depends on you in the end.

Hehe..

Jus wat i think of.

A good magician should have good sportmanship. That the rules of magic. Magics should never be disclosed out. Fellow magician should not bring down or exposed another magician even if he/she were to know the tricks. This is to give due respect to the performer. Just imagine if you are the one performing and someone disclosed you right in front of many people. Magic is an art and should be appreciated not humiliated.

a 2 worded post?

anyway, its always fun if u can fool another magician. one way would be to make them think u are doing a sleight or using a particular method when u are not.

this is the same psychology as fooling layppl, lead them all the way down until they are unable to backtrack and find out at which point they made a wrong judgement.

i second that :D

anyways i think you shouldnt really put yourself in positions where u have to perform for magicians cuz well.. magic isnt really to be performed on other magicians but to entertain lay ppl.

lukold - May 5, 2005 01:26 PM (GMT)
aha!
challenge him to do things you know and DO IT BETTER! haha

Ben - May 5, 2005 03:45 PM (GMT)
I guess stuffs like card manipulation and flourishes will entertain magicians more.

better dun..later that guy damn pro...then will paiseh...

what gordie suggested was good... imagine..

You: Ok now hold this card face down..do not look at it or iit won't work...

Magic exposer: Hold on! That wasn't my card! *turns over card*, oh. it was. ok continue.

You: Sorry, i have to redo cause you did not follow instructions...

Then second time really do the move, but he won't turn the card this time... quite good..

wow..so many tips...i once tried a mentalist effect on a magician in my class...he's dang good..de one i said dat he can figure any trick i show him..he asked..why are all the aces so near each other?

he's been sucking up to me cos he knows i going to get certain dvds.. treats me quite nice..but i still cautious of him..

i also dun really like to perform on magicians but they happen to watch like hecklers when i show to laymen..he will den come up to me and expose my trick without letting the lay know what it was....altho he didnt expose to lay its irritating cos he keeps finding it out an learning it by watching me...once in awhile its performed by him.

im just lucky there is only one flourisher in school which is cai..and several magicians..at least its not a craze to learn it.

Navarrone - May 6, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)

generally i know he complains about me a lot 2 other people...but when he near me he will ask to learn an effect.

or maybe he just doesnt want to be seen as friends with such dork like me

spiritual - May 7, 2005 01:19 AM (GMT)
when i was performing...ppl will always say ha ha i know it...but when i call them perform they say they know but don know how to perform...irriting

GordonLi - May 7, 2005 02:22 AM (GMT)
that can be in a way good. if during a performance, some1 says he knows how its done, would u rather him be able to do it?

i would rather use this to my advantage.

"he knows how its done, but dont know how to do it???!!!", use this to shut him up or something.

Multi-Talent - May 8, 2005 04:40 AM (GMT)
Guys, just my 2 cts worth...i feel that you shouldn't be afraid to perform for professional, please take note: professional will handle you like a pro, they climb to the height of being an entertainer and thats really not easy (ask me if you want to know more), if a pro keeps heckling you, then he is NOT a pro! A professional performer will guide, advice, help, comments, lead etc...to improve your skill so that the secret will not be leak out un-intendtionally...

When you perform for a magician, don't worry abt yourself being lousy, if you have charisma, personalities, and you can make a lousy trick looks damn good...you'll earn the respect from the rest...

A word of advise.
Perform only for the interested.
Those who act cools or exposes u. Stop your performances.

Senerio 1
While performing to fellow friends, a friend suddenly, expose u off in front of all your friends. Jus tell all your friends you will not perform anymore becos of him. This will make them blame on this friend who expose u.

Senerio 2
When performing, a friend told you I know already. Then challenge him to do the same tricks and let him be the performer while you watch. Also challenge him to show you more tricks.

Hope these will help you people out there.

Spellbinder - May 21, 2005 12:22 PM (GMT)
The only time magicians should perform for other magicians is when they are alone, as in a magic club meeting or convention. Magicians who ONLY perform for other magicians have lost sight of their goal, their reason for becoming a magician (or Wizard) in the first place. It rarely pays the bills and is done mostly to boost your own ego.

Look at the postings about David Blaine... Blaine is not performing for magicians but for everyday people in the street, yet other magicians envy and emulate him NOT to entertain people in the street like Blaine is doing, but just to impress OTHER MAGICIANS. They have lost sight of the goal. Blaine doesn't care if other magicians like him or not. He has his eye on the goal and that is to "be a magician" in the eyes of ordinary people. You will never be a magician in the eyes of other magicians. They all know too much.

So keep your eyes on the goal and work to become the best magician ordinary people around you have ever seen. Then, when you go out with the boys to the magic club, you can talk about how much money you made doing magic instead of how many card flourishes you know.

[LV] - May 21, 2005 05:02 PM (GMT)
i hate magicains who expose others....

and normally these magicains who expose others won't last long in the magic market.

Blackwing - May 22, 2005 02:30 AM (GMT)
When I perform for a group of people with a magician in it, I don't worry at all. Normally if the magician is friendly, he'll shut up and he won't expose anything. If you know that the magician is an exposer, use original / self-invented techniques to avoid any exposing.
