Title: Nid Help On Fans.
nicky - May 5, 2005 06:40 AM (GMT)
hi.. erm any1 has any tips on doing a fan?
Daren - May 5, 2005 06:50 AM (GMT)
maybe u should state wad kinda fan u're doing ? one hand fan ? flip back fan ? thumb fan ? etc.
Kevin - May 5, 2005 12:34 PM (GMT)
Here's a general tip: practice until your hands get blisters, and then pour dripping hot wax onto the soles of your feet while biting on a raw onion. It won't make your fans better, but with skillz like those, you won't NEED to be able to do flourishes to entertain :D

Nid help in spelling.
Fanning. Like i said there isn't many places you can learn this. If you are fortunate and you meet someone who does it nicely, and u can beg him to teach you.
StrykerZ - May 5, 2005 04:11 PM (GMT)
just curious, have any of you felt very hot when outside or where ever and happen to have a pack of cards with you, then do a thumb fan and start cooling yourself down? lol i know i have.
Barney - May 5, 2005 04:11 PM (GMT)
Try Best Denki or Mustafa. They sell many kinds of fans over there..
Hehe.. :off:
Anyway, like Daren had stated, describe the fan that ya wish to execute! B)
nicky - May 14, 2005 04:01 AM (GMT)
er.. i nid help on 1handed fans.. i cant seem to open it up nicely.. does having small hands a disadvantage?
SeNgHoE - May 14, 2005 04:16 AM (GMT)
Nope i have small hands and i can fan.
Practice. B)
illusionist - May 14, 2005 04:23 AM (GMT)
Practice practice practic Nicky lol :D really its helps alot lol
Andy - May 14, 2005 04:48 AM (GMT)
size of hands does not really affect fanning.
Its all in the positioning of the deck in the hands, feel and of cos, practise ^_^
Fans are hard to do when u try to open them slowly. You need momentum (not speed). The speed of opening a fan depends and differs between individuals. When i try to open a fan too slowly, the cards clump together.
IMO new decks are easier to fan then really really old decks. And using air-cushioned decks are definitely an advantage
neo23 - May 14, 2005 04:51 AM (GMT)
well.. try and fan my uber soft/old/dirty/ deck.
those who seen it will know what i mean :P
tham - May 14, 2005 01:54 PM (GMT)
heck. I have hands smaller than Lee Asher's. unnaturally small.
but my one handed fan.. ^_^
yeah. it IS all about practice. practice to get the finger positioning, practice to get it even, practice to get it to get it to be like.. Huron's.
bean - May 15, 2005 04:27 PM (GMT)
use fanning powder to make it smooth then lick ur fingers and get food poisoning :P
lllusion112 - May 16, 2005 04:24 AM (GMT)
im curious about what kind of deck you are using. izzit bicycle? if nt try to get it. decks lyk Aladin tends to get sticky or stuck together after a few handlings to the deck.

yea, dosent matter if u got small hands, sen ghoe's one handed fan is HUGE ! bigger than mine, sick ! actaully u dun need fannig powder, jus use an iraqi deck if u have one. fans really well and has a nice design.
lllusion112 - May 16, 2005 08:17 AM (GMT)

lllusion112 - May 16, 2005 12:46 PM (GMT)
oh this kinda deck, LOL
seen before at the magic castle
Defile - May 16, 2005 01:32 PM (GMT)
Lolz.. You kidding about the Iraqi decks or are you serious? ^_^ Well, my advice would be to practice and get the feel of it.
lllusion112 - May 16, 2005 02:51 PM (GMT)
i think that the iraqi deck has the same condition as the alaldin deck or any other plastic cards. not sure though.
bean - May 17, 2005 07:13 AM (GMT)

SeNgHoE - May 17, 2005 07:15 AM (GMT)

Of course. But if u dun feel too good about a full 52 or 54 card deck, try something lesser. Maybe about 40 or so (i do that sometimes. B) ). The least you should ever reach, however, is half the deck.

Hmm, what do you mean i don't understand.
As daryl said somewhwere in this forum before, pressure with the hand HOlDING the fan is important. Its different for everyone how long they take, i took a few days, if you are weidong add in a few months.
Once you get it down , it is very fun to do. B)
iewgnod - May 18, 2005 11:18 AM (GMT)

Not equal, you mean? Ended up in chunks, you mean?
Andy - May 18, 2005 02:51 PM (GMT)
If you can fan the deck such that u only see the white borders, i think its really very good lol. provided there are no chunks together.
lllusion112 - May 19, 2005 06:59 AM (GMT)
i think you can try to push the deck harder in the beginning and then lighter near the top when you fan the deck. make a bigger turn when you fan the deck, will also cause yourself to fan nicer ;)
and yea, do make use of the whole deck to do a one handed fan. fanning with half a deck or a few cards will tend to become a smaller fan, so practice with the whole deck.

Can someone help me count??I dont think thats 52.. :P
Kino - May 25, 2005 01:45 PM (GMT)
hey... just wanna ask, is it an advantage to be able to do one-handed fan on both hands ? coz i am only able to do one handed fan with my left hand but not my right .. :( thx
tham - May 25, 2005 03:28 PM (GMT)
advantage? well it really depends. with 2 one handed fans you can do an S-fan. or whatsoever display you want. if you do really nice one handed fans with both hands, then it's great, but most people are able to do a decent one handed fan only with their dominant hand.
retsevlys - May 25, 2005 06:52 PM (GMT)
The Encyclopedia Of Playing Card Flourishes teaches 25 types of fans.
Including many great tips.
Maybe you should get that. Its a very good book. So instead of asking people for tips, people will be asking you for tips. Yeap Yeap.
