Title: Audience/laymen Perspective [all Please Reply]
Description: What do they think ? What should we do ?
3-nob - May 12, 2005 03:17 AM (GMT)
Hi, I was thinking of which category should I place in topic in, cus it's not only about Flourishes, but it's about cards. What I REALLY want to know is, when you play with the cards outside your house (street, train, bus, building)... how the people look at you... what do you think they were thinking ?
-A gambler ? a kid who has no future, no life... just plays with the cards all of his time
-A magician ? could be ! so show me a trick...
-Or just some guy they don't give a shit, and don't bother to look at
My question:
Why do they think of you that way, yeah why...
And what are we going to do with it.
Please read again the 3 cirscumstances and write a full review of your thought here, as long as you can, describe all you think. I am very interested in reading your story, so please tell it. I wanna hear from all of you, especially all the experts who've been doing for many years.
I gatta go now but when I get back I will tell mine.

And this was the first wierd thing that happened to me, when I was sitting on a bus next to an old lady, she came after me so she was sitting at the outside. That moment I was doing some Flourishes, she was looking at me and my face, my FACE man !!! yeah very curiously... then I just did a color change, when I finished doing the 3rd color change the lady just said something ("@#*$%^") then she jumped to another seat way behind... I was like... "What did I do ? I didn't even look at you"
You see, the point here is, I wasn't bothering her, I didn't ask for anything I wasn't even to show her what I have... I was just playing and I had been playing before she came to me. Well, maybe she thought I was a wizard or a cheater... whatever
This has happened to me twice or thrice with different people different ages. Wierdest thing.
*I'll be right back after the break. And this will be the most interesting topic.
:(

I'm thinking of making a documentary movie of all this. Yes I am really thinking of that and if any of you are interested, please let me know we will do it together. I need a number of people ! and of course the Oscar Winning Director Huron.
I've been seriously wanting to make this very long ago.
Blackwing - May 12, 2005 04:07 AM (GMT)
Hmmm. You know seriously I don't care about what people think of me on MRTs. I only care bout nailing the sybil or one hand cut or whatever I'm doing. I had a few fun incidents before though. On the MRT I was sybiling like a mad man as usual. This Indian guy started looking at my cards so I just continued acting like I didn't know he was looking. I did a few colour changes and blah blah. I did a face up riffle pass and immediately this guy shook my hand, said he respected me and asked how he could contact me. I passed him a name card and thats that.
Oh and believe me, in MRTs, everyone looks at you when you're doing sybils. Yup everyone. We just don't notice it. Oh and if you wanna do a documentary count me in. Always fun to do a bit of magic here and there. Oh and don't praise Huron publicly for nothing. Yeah he's great and all that but if you call him an oscar winner, you're kinda putting pressure on him so he might feel that he's forced to do this documentary with you. If you need his help, PM. Its a message, and its private.
Nick.

Well, I do flourishes almost everywhere I go. MRT, Bus, School, everywhere.
This incident happened 2 days ago. I was at Macdonalds having lunch and a flourish jamiming session with Siyang (neo23) and Hanyong (Defile). So everything was dull and monotonous, just kept flourishing... blah blah blah. Sniped for brevity.
Then the manager kept looking at the group, looking rather amazed, at least a little. The manager finally came up to us, and kept looking.
Then I said, 'We are not gamblers. :D We are flourishers. ^_^ '
Then the manager said, 'Oh ok. Show me some stuff'
Then I did a filpback fan, some cuts, and half a sybil. :P
It has became rather normal for us -- flourishers to be stared at, noticed at, and get chased out. Enjoy your instanteous fame. :D
About a documentary on flourishes? A great idea! If you need people, count me in. ;)
Well, I have a similar idea to yours. I'm thinking of getting all the flourishers in Singapore or SMC to produce a ultra flourish montage. Cool huh? It will be uber long to watch, man!

When you thought your encounter was strange...
Daren , Wei Dong and I was flourishing on the platform of the mrt station. As i was doing a few cuts, a hairy gorilla monkey mucus hand came and grabbed my cards from me.
"BOYS! Do you know its illegal for you to hold cards?"
 <-- Daren
 <-- Weidong
 <-- Senghoe
"HUH!"
"Want to go with me to the police station?"
" Its not illegal "
"It is"
"its not!"
"Don't ever let me see you with cards again"
That guy must be suffering from a disease he got from south africa or something. Baboon headed dragon.. :!!: :!!:

Not really Doc of Flourishes, but about Card Player, how the people out there look at a kid playing with his cards alone. And what will the Card Player do with that issue.
Well, those are 2 interesting incidents from Blackwing and Ling.
Since I wanna make Documentary, I wanna hear more from you, more thoughts, deeper thoughts...

hmmm on the actions of that gorilla , you should have did this
Gorilla : "BOYS! Do you know its illegal for you to hold cards?"
Senghoe: "huh?"
Gorilla : "Want to go with me to the police station?"
Daren: "Erhmm, wait a min, let's just call the police over"
Weidong : "Ya, Feel free to use my handphone."
And the poor Gorila will be sent back to the Jungle ^_^ after being sedated with a jab and bonded with ropes
of cos, judging from the size u described him to be, it was indeed advisable of the actions which u took. Who knows what a Mad Gorilla can do. (e.g. carry u off and climb westin stamford :ph43r: )
PEACE!! B)

Haha.. I think Seng Hoe's experience is so far the most unique of all cases.. Man i can just imagine Wei dong's face during that time of issue.
anyway.. I'm not sure why but most who react when they see me play with cards give me replies such as:
"very good.. now you learn in 4 years time you can find job" (talking about casino)
"Boy dont work for the casino. it's not good. the government bluff.... etc... "
All the irritating talk on casino.. personally, i wished it wont open ;)

Here's another wierd one, this guy was black, I think he was too shy or something (or maybe he's gay lol). He sat next to me on a bus, his eyes were always on my hands tho I never looked but I could feel it man lol, we never talked to each other the whole time, we never looked at each other's face... You know, at the end when I dropped off, he just grinned at me and said "Thank you".
That's ALL did LOL. I was happy but I think he's gay LOL ...
:!!: HAH !!!

Blackwing - May 12, 2005 11:14 AM (GMT)
Wah Seng Hoe and Wei Dong that was a really really weird experience. hahahah cool. I don't wanna be racist, but was the gorilla guys race?
LarryDK - May 12, 2005 11:23 AM (GMT)
My turn, Haha.
I always do my warm up on the bus, mrt. So people will look at what i doing with a poker deck.
I was doing magic in mrt, actually only practising, then the kid opposite me was looking at it. My gf told me. then i do a whole routine without audience, 4 aces trick and ambitious. Then i was told by my gf that his face was shocked, knock out. Its a good feeling that i can amaze people.
I was doing some magic for some people, after my interview today. Then they are so shocked, amazed and i got 2 guys burning my hand by my side. Hehe... But of course i do confidence tricks than others.
Ya, I also got friends that say that i am a cheater with cards. Sometime i feel sad when they will classify me as that. but eventually after some time of doing magic to them, they accept the idea and will provide me with their thoughts and then i go into wat they think.

Hahaha i believe every flourishers get that once in a while, but i believe some of us get thumbs up from other people too.
I flourish in front of 2 policeman before and they just look at what i was doing and just walk away.
So don't really care what others think or say, (Just Do It !)

i had to sit at a doc's office and wait for about an hour, so i was messing with my cards. the adults ignored me and this lady's 7 yr old grandson was sorta fascinated by it.
most of the time, at school, friends have gotten used to it, and everyone else ignores it... it's interesting when, for example, the other day i deliberately stood in a commonly used pathway juggling 3 clubs (bowling pin things) right after the school bell rang for the end of class that day... and everyone ignored me... you would think that, people have probably seen juggling if they've been to the circus or something, but to see someone your own age doing it, in the middle of your school cafeteria...
the same thing with flourishes. occasionally, ppe will say "cool, why do you do that stuff" and i reply... it's fun ... or something along those lines, and i try to teach them a charlier or something. most of the time, pple just quietly watch with no real or visible reaction, or ignore it.

i don't think people have such specific responses... when first starting out i got asked a lot "why" and i still get asked that occasionally but i mean as for ... what needs to be done about it... i guess, whatever floats your boat, but if suddenly the whole world was filled with magicians and flourishers, i would be disappointed.
plus, one isn't going to ever know why someone else "looks at you a certain way" unless you get inside their head or just ask them, so if you are really worried about it... go ahead and ask. if you think that THEY think you're weird for playing with cards, there's no point in NOT reinforcing the opinion by striking up some conversation.
and congratulations for achieving in 2 days a higher post count than i have achieved in over 2 months...

That's very interesting to hear Jessica. I think because this forum is for Singaporean that's why you don't feel so comfortable
Huron - May 13, 2005 05:34 AM (GMT)
3-nob, that really wasn't her point. But it's okay, you'll understand one day when you grow up. =) You probably post so much because you're new to the forum and don't understand a single thing about any forums, especially since you don't promote yourself anywhere else.
We all know that you're an insecure person, but don't worry, we'll adjust to your indifferent personality one day. I mean we can't blame you, you're born that way. Don't be too hard on yourself, okay?
It's like, if some highly annoying person joins the forums, we can't just ostracize the guy.
Also, I really feel you should stop flaming people. =) Maybe more people will join your hollywood produced documentary.
It's okay, I'm sure , one day, maybe in a day or two, the world will praise you for your ...skills, Mister award winning natural born talent flourisher. =) Take care.

Hey Seng Hoe I just realised something. You guys were in school uniform when the 'gorilla' incident happened right? if you were not in school uniform then that guy is freaking mental.
