Title: Do You Cheat At Cards?
Barney - May 14, 2005 07:34 AM (GMT)
Hi people.. I hope i ain't spamming or flamming. I just wanna ask a real, honest question. I actually started thinking about it when DavidKim made a post somewhere else, saying: "Ya, I also got friends that say that i am a cheater with cards."
So here's the question. This is mainly for those who have 'The Cheat', and/ or 'Weapons of the Card Shark', and those who play Dai Dee, Bridge, poker rather extensively etc..
Do you actually USE those cheating techniques in real life? As in, the false shuffles, crooked dealing, controlling of cards etc.? Or perhaps you simply just put your knowledge of card sleights to use in card games?
Do share with us (those who read this thread) on your experiences, like when you got caught, what did ya do? :D

I think the person who really cheat won't be posting here to tell everyone that he cheats.
As for me, I once stacked a deck and gambled with my friends during my in-camp-training. But that was just as a gag. They knew I'm a magician, return them the money too.

I only cheat when I'm not playing for money. When my friends ask me to gamble I tell them I dun like to gamble so I just avoid the game. And yes cheating is fun and its freaking easy if you talk enough and distract your monkeys.

I notice that people tend to classify magicians or people who are good with cards as being able to cheat at the tables. This is true for some but i think for the majoriy, this isn't true.
I once performed for my dad's friends some effects and they declared that they would never play cards with me. This is weird as in a real gambling situation, I cant do anything to give me special advantages.
Well, i can m*** the cards before the game but then thats not using skills.
So to conclude, (for me only, not sure about others) I can't cheat even if i wanted to cause i lack the skills. :(

well i gamble(with money) only in a while... cause only in new year then i can gamble. last new year i got these few relatives want to play with me... then my cousins all tell them to becareful cause i am a magician... then this uncle says he no need to worry cause he can see every single move i make... <_< then i cheat, he cannot even see.... i never tell him of course la, dun wan to spoil my reputation. that was the only time i cheated like mad...earning a lot of money...felt gulty afterwards.
other than that i cheat sometimes also when playing with my friends(no money involved)
whoa seems that i cheat quite a lot..eh?
dtjk - May 14, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
i only cheat when we not gambling with money. it can be quite irratating sometimes, when i perform card tricks halfway then some assholes come about and stop me, saying stuff like, "eh, sian lah magic, play dai dee leh.."
i can get really pissed sometimes, but i would agree, after finding all the "twos" and control them to the bottom, and with misdirection i would bottom-deal to myself. lol.
there was once where i controlled 4 twos and 4 aces to the bottom, and bottom-deal to myself. hell, i dominated the game, lol.
gambling sleights rock, but i still cannot do bottom-deal without the using of misdirection. :P

Well, i actually cheated quite a few times, using alot of different technique especially magic technique like the P**s, P**m, Controls, SD and BD.
I mean you can't really help it, when you spots some good cards while shuffling and you tend to do all the moves just to make sure that it landed on you.
Somehow i only cheat when i am not playing with money, i seldom play with money anyway.

why do all of u dun play with money!!! it's more fun to play with money cuz 1 always win, muhahaha. i dun use cheat though, bt always win, cuz i rely of the destiny. remember, magic is just entertainment (for the gain of others; everyone), bt cheating is a form of " self-gain", and is nt a way a magician shld be.
keep this in mind....Winning Without Honour Is Not Winning

Wait a min. In my circle of Dai Dee playing friends (which spans to as big as 20+ guys and girls of different ages and dialects and backgrounds), we all have one common agreement:
Should you have 4 Twos, you must declare. Game ends.
It's something like having to 'wash' your cards in Bridge.
Funny that you don't declare at all.. Maybe you haven't played with the hardcore sort and the 'old birds' yet. You'll get whacked if you don't declare.
P.S. Old birds = old aunties. B)

it is actually quite easy to cheat at cards IF you are ALREADY good at the game. But the consequences can vary from very socially damaging (Nobody likes cheats, it's like getting a reputation of someone who borrows money and don't return), to very physically painful (depending on who u play with, it can range from a few bruises on the face to broken arms).
No sleights are so invisible that it is undetectable in a gaming setting when suspicions are aroused. They may not figure out what exactly are you doing, but they can see something funny going on when you are on a weird winning streak. And that's usually enough to give you some very painful problems.
So....don't do it. B)
Side-tracking, it was suggested to me by Justy that we have a "God of Gambling" competition among ourselves, but playing for fame. We will have a few rounds of each game and everyone is ENCOURAGED to use all the sleights they know to cheat as much as they can to beat the other players. Like a gambling cheats tournament.
I thought it's an interesting idea and sounds quite fun, for the players and those watching. We MIGHT actually have it sometime. So wait for it...

Aloy,
Actually im looking forward to another magic competition. ^_^
But might as well..

I only do it for fun sometimes when i play dai dee with my friends as a gag or something cuz they dont really mind it. they get irritated when I get four dee's(2's). There are times when I get good hands and they accuse me of stacking when I didnt -.-..
I would never cheat when playing high stakes i'm just not good enough :P
GordonLi - May 15, 2005 04:37 PM (GMT)
definitely!
but *usually* not for $, sometimes for fun...

lukold - May 16, 2005 07:00 AM (GMT)
err i cheated today , when we were playing money but i gave them the money back cos i said this round not playing next round it. lol i controlled the 4 aces and 3 2s to my stack while some guy flaunted his 2 of hearts -.- then i opened all my cards and they went O.O
GordonLi - May 16, 2005 07:34 AM (GMT)
one of the best ways is to use a M-deck. they can even handle the deck/shuffle etc.
some ppl use stripper, but i guess its just not popular.
in bridge, i controlled all the A,K,Q + a J to my hand b4, all culled, stacked and dealt in front of them. that was one of the most memorable incidents... :)
spiritual - May 16, 2005 08:06 AM (GMT)
hmmm...my friend don play blackjack with mi because i'm a magician and i'm quite famous for magic... :P and few of my frend call mi lao qian because they call mi to cheat...but i only cheat without money
bean - May 16, 2005 10:25 AM (GMT)
my friends dun let me be the dealer for black jack :( and they know im cheating if im using the overhand shuffle cus it is uncommon here.
lllusion112 - May 16, 2005 01:29 PM (GMT)
haha, if you want to cheat, dont use overhand shuffle lar! hindu shuffle will work well. :D
remember, winning without honour is counted as not winning.
StrykerZ - May 17, 2005 09:08 AM (GMT)
riffle shuffle or faro's work fine for cheating what..

I know its no fun. But its a very common house rule. That is, unless your friends are so blur as to not notice that you played 4 Twos. B)
Btw, Lukold's approach is the only one i use in Dai Dee. It is also safer (in the sense that the game won't be forced to end).
For bridge, i prefer winning on a trump basis.. I try to cull as many of a suit to the bottom. Then i dealt most of it to me, the rest to my partner (t'was contract, not floating). It made the game look more 'natural'.
Btw, i feel that if one cheats, one should have a winning hand that is not too overpowering. It really makes your win look real fishy.. That's just what i think. ^_^
