Head chopping is good for laughs. Trust me. Just make some puns and jokes. "Do you any second THOUGHTS? Don't worry, if this trick goes wrong you won't have much to think of. Trust me, its great fun working this thing, you won't live to regret it.
How about some vanishing tissue paper David copperfield style. If i'm not wrong huron can help u with this.

I kinda like the tissue routine. For head chopping is too bulky for me. I normally do show without too much props. Simple but Entertaning. B) B)

Regal's "the card that cannot be found" is one hell of a journey that will take you HOURS to perform. Right, j10? :D

there are many ways to achieve comedy:
1. Visual Comedy (behaving funny, cardini was very good at this, and tommy wonder and pendragon did say during IF magic that manipulations shud be done in such a way that magic is happening to u, and not look like u are showing off)
2. Comedy Bits and Lines (most magicians opt for this as it does not change much of your performance style as the previous. just dont be like harry allen and insult your audience (unless u idolise him).)
3. Stand up comedy (longer than just comedy bits and lines which u inject, such usually builds your routine along some comical patter)
let me just give my own analysis on these 3 various kinds of comedy:
1. this has the potential to be very strong, but u have to take on an entirely different persona (unless u are always a mr bean). also, u will look extremely stupid if u dont suceed. performers who can make use of this will stand out.
i would say theres another category in 1, which focuses on objects more than the performer. (eg. break away fan/gun/table/box, accidentally burning a spectators $ or breaking his watch into the various components and gears). this is usually unexpected and hence funny in the sense that something illogical/unexpected happens.
2. this is good to try an keep the comedy feeling up. but, its a drag and soon audience dont find ur jokes funny. like what tommy wonder says "u must progress ur audience from one emotion to another so its not boring, and one good way is by using conflict". this is quite true as a comedy act not just involve laughing, but at certain times, the audience will feel sad, angry, etc., and when u suddenly deviate, they will start laughing. but, in general, dont rely too much on this to have a comedy routine.
3. if u build up your routine along a strucutred comedy patter, it will appear very cohesive and thats good. but, its hard to keep it up. but if u can, its a great success! its much more effective than 2, but u also have to have varying emotions.
but b4 u immediately settle on a comedy routine, u have to think if u really want a comedy routine. some purists would not include comedy in their routine.
for example, dai vernon said "Comedy born of bewilderment is the only comedy that should be in magic.” although he did not always abide by this, i believed it was just a safe advice that he was giving. some ppl agree with this totally, and just want people to focus on the magic (it is not necessarily a bad thing). but most importantly, u must always get their attention (so they wont think u do something sneaky while they were laughing). by the way, misdirection on offbeat is not as effective as misdirection by focusing their attention on something (i shant go into this now)
but i suppose, if u want to build ur reputation as a comedian magician, it might give u an edge over others.
another thing to note is that say u are doing mentalism, comedy might make u look like some joker. (there are ways to do it well though, eg. when u are trying to "read" their minds, u have to to act serious) u may want to do a full serious mentalism act (and its scary for the audience), but depends. people find thrill in both comedy and fear (thats y people like roller coasters, horror movies etc. and will pay). pam can do both kinds well, so ask him if u need help.
just to tell u guys what i personally believe, i like comedy, and i will do as much as possible without deviating their attention on my magic.
phew, this is a long post, but i hope u read it and learnt something.

wow,
45 mins is a really long time to perform :o...
even for a stage piece.
if its to be tottally comedy, it will have to be back to back comedy magic without losing the audiences atetion.
but a better suggestion is normal stage but w snipets of comedy, like kinda offbeat moments, or slapstick..
it all depends on whether the effect wanted is rotfl or other stuff...

Whoa, that's a really old thread you pick up.
By the way, how long have you been doing stage magic BlUeCoWz?

The interrupted miracle is always good for laughs. You can use any "miracle" and any number of interruptions. The plot goes like this: You describe a trick which has to be an absolute mind-blowing miracle if it can be accomplished. You set it up and then begin to work the miracle and get interrupted by having to perform some other trick so you can proceed with the miracle. This happens again and again, as long as you can drag it out.
Finally, you end the whole routine and start to walk out, apparently having forgotten about the miracle. At the last moment, either someone reminds you of it (for example, you leave some poor klutz stranded with a beer glass upended on his head, only not getting drenched because of a card sealing in the liquid) or you remember it yourself if no one has pity on the klutz. Only then do you come back, remove the beer glass and reveal the card that was holding in the liquid is the signed card from the very beginning (or whatever your "miracle" trick is).
