dude, key bending is so much harder,u really have to get the finger strength,ouch...
LarryDK - May 22, 2005 05:15 PM (GMT)
Haha, key bending may not need strength. Hmm.. My idea is, spoon bending to some people is too simple.
They will go "I also know how to bend, bend with hand also can ma." So it is like common.
But key bending, it have greater effect. But better for close up. Spoon can be done a litter further.
Just what i think.

Ok I prefer spoon and fork bending y easy to get it anywhere.. Keys unless you can find a spare key that is not in use.. For spoon you can make them go wow too if you know how to present it.. that only my point of view lah cos I do spoon bend or fork all the time lol :D
LarryDK - May 22, 2005 05:45 PM (GMT)
Hey then u have to teach me more on that. I bad in spoon bending but i not giving up the magic.

not really, ppl usually would not put so much effort into bending/unbending a spoon, and they will think that lots of effort is needed to bend it.
that in a way rules out the secret.
Alexander - May 23, 2005 05:56 AM (GMT)
I would prefer spoon and fork bending, cos there are infact more things to do with them, like the tines, the twist, and even unbending them.
But for keys, yes it may seems harder to bend, but all you can do really is actually just bending it.
lllusion112 - May 23, 2005 08:57 AM (GMT)
hehe, i know you guys will say that spoon and fork bending is better. however, key bending is much more easier than spoon bending, there's a way to do it (making key bending much more easier).
another thing is that doing key bending when you do street magic or walk around, as who in the hell will take 2 spoons, walking around and say" excuse me, do you like to see some magic?" you will look extra stupid, lol. to me, keys, is an object where everyone will carry around and keys will be more difficult to bend with bare hands, so it will be more convincing that you can bend things with your mind.
JUST my ONE DOLLAR...lol.........

Thats when you are wrong, in street magic/busking, metal bending like spoon/fork bending kills. If you don't believe, ask Aloy, he always managed to get a large crowd with his spoon bending.
Key bending for another reason is you can't bend keys, especially spectator keys. Unless you bring your own key or your own gimmick key.
lllusion112 - May 23, 2005 09:06 AM (GMT)
hmm... i agree that spoon bending and fork bending KILLS!!! i do that almost all the time, rememeber that time jonathan meet us, and i do the sponn bend, lol. eventhough like me, not very good at spoon bending, the spec will all get shocked. key bending can be a good way to "shoot" hecklers. you can take thier keys and bend, cause they will not mind (as they want us to prove that we got pstchic powers. ;)
hey, edwin you did follow ling to kovan meh? i thought you joining them?

No, i never said i was going anyway. Hahaha
Somehow key bending, i used to think that doing it on Hecklers will be good. Unless they themselves say "BEND MY KEY", if not they will surely argue that you purposely bend their keys.
lllusion112 - May 23, 2005 09:13 AM (GMT)
if they try to prove that i bend the spoon physically, i will say:
me:" i can also bend keys, do you have any, i wil try to bend them."
heckler:" izzit...ok *take out thier keys* here you go, bend it!"
me:" you try bending it first"
heckler:" *bending...bending* cannot, here you go, bending keys is impossible physically"
me:" thank you"
then i will carry on with my key bending. ( take note this key being is not with the raven x2) ;)

i only know how to do spoon/fork bending, but key bending i got no idea how its done or how it looks like. i would really like to see it being performed oneday.
anyone have any clip on key bending performance?

Spoon bending used to be one of my fav staple effects. As much as I really really like this group of effects, I've pretty much given up on it now dispite doing a multiple phrase routine with some of my own moves because it's one of the most exposed effects around. i'm starting to run into people who say they know friends who does it too.
I mean, who here DOESN'T know at least 1 version of it? B)
It's becoming like the ACR in the post-Blaine era B)
Anyways, back on topic. I don't think it should be spoon-bending vs Key-bending. Because these are not "opposing" effects, but complementing ones. You can follow one with the other, depending on the methods you deploy. There are a few effects which you can put together with these too actually, including Osterlind's bending spikes, carpenter's nightmare (althought i don't like this one), and bending coins. Combine these effects together for a full routine, ordering them from the weakest impact moves to the highest impact moves.
As much as possible, use different methods at different phrases to self cancel out the possible explainations in the spec's minds. For spoon bending itself, i use at least 2 different methods when I do it, sometimes more when i feel i'm being burn, to make sure I throw them off track abt the possible methods.
Well, have fun with it. :)
lllusion112 - May 23, 2005 02:24 PM (GMT)
yes i agree with osterlind's nail bending, however he siad that he prefer key bending more as you can easily borrow keys, bt nails....err...maybe can try it out in construction sites, lol. anyhow, nail bending is also a very stunning effect, followed by coin bending, but osterlind also said that the spec will knoe that bending a coin will ned a bulky tool and is not highly recommended.

It is not necessary to BORROW EVERYTHING in my opinion. I have bought out a spoon, passed it out for examination, and proceed with the effects many times. If you are doing a gig as a magic performer, people somewhat expects you to be prepared. It's like cards, who brings cards with them wherever they go other than complusive gamblers?
Not many people have keys on their keychain which is completely useless. For borrowed object bending, coin bending is probably much more suitable coz virtually ANYONE has a 20 cents you can borrow and they don't really mind it if you bend it. And you can easily replace the bent coin with a normal one if they do mind. And you don't necessarily have to carry a bulky object around to do it ;) B)

With the state of things now, it's probably a blessing ;) B)

for me, fork/spoon bending is enough. its already a miracle!
moreover, i dun like the methods used in key/coin bending. of course, we should concern ourselves with the effect not method, but its just not me to use overly troublesome methods for these kind of closeup stuff.
HarapanOng - May 24, 2005 02:12 PM (GMT)
what if u are bending a key... and somebody grabs ur hand and says "BEND IT BACK"
Even for forks, ppl also got ask me "Hey use your magic to bend it back..."
GordonLi - May 24, 2005 06:06 PM (GMT)
yea, ive received such challenges b4.
i just tell them that i want to leave it in the magical bent state. i may come up with other reasons on the spot though, dependin on the situation.
darkmagician - May 25, 2005 12:55 PM (GMT)
well doing both is impressive... but for forks, it might be more visually entertaining cause it is bigger and not so hidden behind your hands, as for key bending, it may seem as though u are hiding something behind your hands as u bend the key...
also key bending might be entertaining as the key might seem thicker than a fork, thus harder to bend it, as for a fork, it can also be quite entertaining if done well...
:P
HarapanOng - May 26, 2005 12:11 PM (GMT)
darkmagician, that comment was pretty contradictory. First you say fork better, then key better...
I vote forks! My hand not strong enough!
GordonLi - May 26, 2005 12:16 PM (GMT)
not really contradicting... he's talking of the pros and cons of 2 aspects in the effect, the visual and the psychological. and i agree with him.
so just do what u do best, and do it well.

ya precisely, thats what i was listing out....
i was giving the pros and cons of fork and key bending, and i am not contradicting myself....
but i must say that i am more for fork bending though... :P
