Title: Underground By Matt Griegson
Markiebeth - May 22, 2005 04:36 PM (GMT)
Latest edition to my knowledge in cards. For those of you who know about this one, any comments or suggestions for its uses?
Also felt that the price was abit too steep, paid $63 for it :( But I guess the effect was too good to resist then for me...

Well the effect is as follows, performer spreads out a deck of cards and picks one at random. Without looking he names it. This is done a couple of times.
The spectator then chooses a card which he shuffles into the deck. Performer then spreads out the deck again and picks out the ONE and ONLY card which is still faced down and hands it to the spectator to turn it over himself (and of course its the chosen card).
Can be done with a borrowed deck. No sleights required. :)
Btw Ling besides the standard routine, any other ideas for this? I think using it for mental would be great.

Effect in Brief:
Magician speaks of how gamblers can keep track of 1 card. He shuffles a deck and ribbon spreads it and then randomly takes out a card and names it
He states that the only way he can do this is of cos he was keeping track of the card. He goes on to do this with a few more cards, naming them after he had pulled them out and is correct on all occasions.
Then he goes on to let the spec inspect deck, nothing is found. He would then tell the spec that he would keep track of <NAME OF CARD> and asks the spec to shuffle the deck. The deck is returned to the magician who then ribbon spreads and casually pulls out the card which he said he was keeping track of.
He then asks the spec to pick a card, return it to the middle and then, shuffles the deck. After which, the magician finds the selection by just picking a card out from a tabled spread (face down spread of cause).
Spec can now be given the deck to keep or to inspect till he is happy and nothing can be found.
Phew...
Underground is a very good utility. The above routine is just one of the many ways u can use the item taught to protray a gambling effect.
It can also be presented as a mentalism effect, depending on the presentation.
Given the right circumstances, you can even do it with a borrowed deck which can be returned to the spectators at the end of the performance.
Couldn't recommend this effect more. This is because having the knowledge of underground, you can really improve on a lot of other stuff and it can also be incorporated in many other card effects, limited only by your imagination.
Cheers!!

whoa, this effect sounds very very interesting... :)
someone has gotta show me this!
Aloy - May 23, 2005 07:27 AM (GMT)
Oh...i remember this trick now.
To say that it can be done with a borrowed deck is misleading, because you need to prepare with the borrowed deck then.
It's quite an ok trick, and while examinable, it will not stand up to real careful scrutiny (I figured out how it was achieved when I was offered the deck for examination).
But I think this is designed to be more of a magician's fooler. You can achieve the same effects and more with a m****d deck. :)

sheesh! u found the secret just be examining it? darn! wasted $$

Under SCRUTINY, it can be noticable. But in the hands of a layman, it should be safe.
Markiebeth - May 23, 2005 08:09 AM (GMT)
Haha i guess it just depends on how well u 'prepare' the thing. But then again its a real killer. 2 thumbs up for the trick!

Yup thats why i mentioned under the right circumstances it can be achieved.

Underground... To use the principle alone is good.. But then ever considered mix and matches? Like mixing underground with Nash's Infinity card control and then creating a gambling routine with it... I've personally combined these 2 and used them in one routine and had huge reactions from magicians and laymen alike...
BuaYa - May 23, 2005 04:10 PM (GMT)
Honestly, I don't think underground is all that good. Honestly, I feel that its too... Um... close to something I thought up. Sol, Huron and Kevin can testify... Sigh.

My testification is always ready, J. You musta felt really "burr" upon discovering the "striking" similarities between em :P

Actually, I don't really think Underground is that great. I bought it for $70 when it first came out. I don't really like these kind of effects where the spectator try's to figure out how it is done. I'm a magician so I like to perform magic, a.k.a impossible feats. I don't like puzzles man. This is one of those ' catch me if you can ' tricks. I love the secret though, I use it as a utility to locate cards.
Peace.

This effect sounds good. Is there anywhere where we could get the demo? Would really love to see it...
