ahhhhhhhh finnaly!! i dont think this has anything to do with magic, souldnt be exposure .. i hope haha.. the one that blaine does, using his bare fingers to light a cigg.. for quite some time ive been trying to figure that out.. i tried using zippo fluid and lighting my fingers and it last for like 2 secs before i blow the flames out..ouch ouch... now i can light 2 ciggs with my burning figer  ..the secret is ice :D go try it.. it would properbly last for 4-6 sec before you feel the pain comming.. trust me it dosent hurt!

I think ning will try it cost she into fire now... hope she don't burn her fingers hahahaha

makanmonkey - October 12, 2004 07:07 AM (GMT)
wat can i say ren... u really suffer for ur art!

but then again using ice, then dousing them fingers with lighter fluid... a bit obvious right? btw Houdini wrote a book, "Miracle mongers and their methods : a complete exposé" which the nat'l lib should still have, detailing (if i can remember correctly) a recipe for some sort of substance that is used to make one impervious (READ... NING) to fire, also nowadays i think there's alot of fire gel around, the kind those stuntmen use, might be worth a look.

man ren...you are getting more crazy than ning and she is already pretty insane.
Dousing yourself with lighter fluid and setting yourself on fire?? You sound like some political activist from china man....

Does it really work? hurhurhur...i also wanna try.... B)
But how do u set it up for performances thou?

illusionist - October 12, 2004 09:01 AM (GMT)
wow ren you just like my friend crazy guy who like to play with fire he lit his whole plam on fire one but he is wearing a gloves you lit your finger ouch.. :D

Ning - October 12, 2004 10:06 AM (GMT)
LOL.... i read that the lighter fire technique works but longer than 2 seconds you'd feel pain because the ice numbing the skin wears off :P i'd say stick to the fire gels, can always order them online... you'd want to skin on your fingers to do your flourishes and other tricks <grin>

Ren, u just earned yourself the title of Pyro King already

Ning - October 12, 2004 10:12 AM (GMT)
oh yeah... another alternative is to order the kind of TTs that have a small wick on the end so it looks like there really is a flame on your thumb/ fingers :D this way u don't have to worry about burning your skin and the effect can be carried out for a longer period of time B)

Ren, I still gotta salute you for your bravery man

actually the trick isnt lighting the finger with fire lol.. its actually soaking ur finger in ice and later holding the lighted part of the cigg wif your index finger and thumb for 30 sec.. i managed to hold it like for 12 sec lol and then i though of using the same concept on lighting my fingers and it works perfectly... more then enough time to light at least a cigg... u guys gotta trust me.. it dosent hurt but u must really soak ur finger in ice cold water till it gets pretty numb... btw you only get burns and blisters when ur skin gets heated... since its cold, no blisters no burns

ren8585 - October 12, 2004 10:42 AM (GMT)
i actually have a video but its on my gf's hp cant upload to my com... that sucks

Gee....holding the lighted part of a cig against my hand? Why in the world would i ever wanna do that? LOL....

So to be able to perform that out of home, you need to like bring a termal flask of ice water out with you so that you can cool your fingers? And also lighter fluid. Pretty messy....

ren8585 - October 12, 2004 11:30 AM (GMT)
nono freeze ur fingers before touching it <_< if u wanna do impromtu do the cigg butt one... all u need is ice... u can get it anywhere lol ... pubs, bars, clubs even at any kopitiam

you should get those special gels which i believe can take thousands of degrees of heat. i remember seeing some programme where ppl can have their hands over a huge flame for a very long time.

as for the special substance which burns but not burn you, the chemical mixture is know as "cold fire". two parts water to one part surgical spirit. still have to tolerate the heat, it wont burn though. after dipping fingers into the mixture, can just touch a small piece of potassium. the reaction will cause a small flame and will ignite the mixture. after it becomes too hot, just close your fist to extinguish the flames.

ren8585 - October 12, 2004 04:12 PM (GMT)
wow wow so chiem.... where could i get it?

GordonLi - October 12, 2004 04:16 PM (GMT)
lab supplies or your sch lab. u can also use alcohol instead of surgical spirit, although it might not work as well. as for the gels, im not sure where to get either.

makanmonkey - October 12, 2004 04:22 PM (GMT)
surgical spirit = methylated spirit... can get from ur local pharmacy comes in 150ml bottles i think, but those fires are not impressive, coz the flames not very visible leh.

 nail polish remover works great too... and the heat is not so intense as zippo fluid... ill just stick to my "ice" theory haha

Aloy - October 13, 2004 10:09 AM (GMT)
I hope you all have fire extinguishers...........................................

lllusion112 - February 27, 2005 10:56 AM (GMT)
cold fire uses carbon disulfide (40ml) + carbon tetrachloride (20ml).
dip a ball of cotton wool into the solution and set it on fire. place the cooton wool on ur palm and it will nt hurt. explaination very long so skipped tht. haven try dipping my finger into the solution and light, dunno whther can work...
