Title: D'lite Anyone?
Description: have you performed it?
Aloy - September 9, 2004 10:17 AM (GMT)
Anybody performs D'Lite? What's the reactions you get and who do you perform it for?
Has anybody performed it as a close up trick before? what are the reactions like?
What about in a "stage" (a group of people) setting? How much of the light do you have to dim before it is effective?
I'm itching to get it but to me it just seems more of a puzzle and acrobatic juggling than magic.
Tell us about your experiences with it.
Cheers

yea d-lite dosent looks like magic.. but its pretty cool using it in clubs..nice effect... great for hooking up girls but seriously i find it pretty dumb lol...
http://www.magicvideodepot.com/view.php?a=v&t=1809 <---check this out
Aloy - September 9, 2004 05:43 PM (GMT)
That's hilarious! Now what will happen if i try that next time i go clubbing....hmm......
Yah, personally, i find it "funny" too. To me it seems more like acrobatics and juggling than magic.
But I was thinking maybe i was looking at it from a magician's point of view. Wonder how a layman looks at it.
Has anyone performed it before?
Ning - September 14, 2004 02:45 AM (GMT)
hahaha... i think it's all in the presentation- this guy's doing a comedy effect!!! all the wild swinging and clowning around... it's just this wacky personality showing, i presume *grin* does anyone on this forum have it, by the way? what's the avg retail price? i think it depends on how you perform it... it'd look pretty good ;-)
jim - September 14, 2004 10:11 PM (GMT)
I guess, it boils down to your presentation and target audience.
I do have dlite and I think it is great for kid shows.
I am selling my extra set, anyone interested? e-mail me plse.
Ning - September 15, 2004 02:39 AM (GMT)
yeah, it seems kinda cute... let me do up my list and once it's posted, maybe we can do atrade? thanks!!! :-)
illusionist - September 27, 2004 10:45 AM (GMT)

Aloy - September 27, 2004 05:27 PM (GMT)

ren8585 - September 27, 2004 06:16 PM (GMT)
mayb u should test it out and tell us more about it haha
Ning - September 28, 2004 01:27 AM (GMT)
It'd probably go along the lines of "$#$!@$!!????!"
makanmonkey - September 28, 2004 06:41 PM (GMT)
imagine the reactions u'd get at mambo!
i performed it once, in front of a couple of close frens... one was quite amused, the other was going "yea right..." (perhaps coz i was insinuating he was drunk... "i bet u'd believe me if i said i have a fireply in my pocket") but i didn't have a routine then... i think the vid @penguin is quite good (except for the bimbotic blonde) ... esp the part where it's swallowed and shines thru the body and the part ithey appear at his ears haha... maybe i should start using it to find a gf as someone suggested hmmm...
just wish the colour changing one was out at the time i bot mine!
illusionist - September 28, 2004 06:48 PM (GMT)
I wish to get the colour changing Dlite's too...
Ning - September 29, 2004 02:30 AM (GMT)
Any idea how big/ small the junior sized d-lites are? They're still all out of stock @ Penguin... would hate if i got the regular one and it makes me look like i got a swollen thumb <_<
illusionist - September 29, 2004 03:16 AM (GMT)
Ning you can try magicwarehouse they might have stock lol... the price there are quiet cheap as well.
cyngapore - October 2, 2004 05:32 PM (GMT)
D'lites are great, work in any kind of situation. I work part time at a local club/bar and shown d'lite a couple of times and ppl were just amazed by it. Blows ppl off.
Ning - October 3, 2004 11:21 AM (GMT)
Wow.... hey... Anyone have any idea on how big/small the junior d-lites are? Not sure if they would fit me cos I'm sure the regular ones wouldn't <_<
Kevin - October 4, 2004 11:38 AM (GMT)
D'Lites are cool... so fun, so innocent, so magical.
Most people don't like them because they're so "kiddie". Matter of fact, it is :P But still, it's one of the purest forms of magic you can get. Try it out, you might get to like it ;)

BuaYa - October 9, 2004 03:29 PM (GMT)
Be sure to get the D'Lite video while you're at it. D Lites are magic. Especially if you do it in the semi-dark areas. I've got it and I was once addicted to it... Went to a D'Lite rehabilitation centre for that. Can't really say I'm clean yet though...
Aloy - October 9, 2004 07:24 PM (GMT)
What kinda reactions do you get from specs when you perform Buaya? Puzzled? Curious? or confused? Or do you get astonishment? And what age group is your spec?
Cheers
BuaYa - October 10, 2004 01:49 AM (GMT)
Hmmm. Amazed I guess. Age group? Well, to start the effect I go to a younger kid, then from there a small crowd will build. I do this at playgrounds a lot. "Clean fun for the whole family"
Even if there a tougher kids at the playground, they'll join in the amazement when they see the kid laugh smile and eventually think his brains to dust. Ya.
exohordon - October 12, 2004 03:23 AM (GMT)
The one the guy performed in photon.wmv
Is he using the color changing Dlites or he uses 2 separate
red and blue.
I liked his rountine. I dun club but it looks cool to me.
makanmonkey - October 12, 2004 07:36 AM (GMT)

I mostly perfrom this in clubs and pub.. sometime when I kids shows I just dim down the light and it can be perfrom beautifully.... :D
JasonL - November 3, 2004 01:14 PM (GMT)
D'lite...very unique, very magical if performed well. It's like a TT, nobody should know it exists. It should be done in a semi dark place and it will look very nice. I've got very good reactions from it. Put a good plot behind your routine!
For those of you who like variety and better quality products, you might want to get Finger Fazers by Jay Scott Berry. Very expensive though, but a lot more useful and better than d'lite.
phoenixsam - November 4, 2004 03:37 AM (GMT)
i think u can actually not perform this as itz own....u can really add this to ur own routines...wherever it fitz well.and whether comical or not,it depends on the performer.it can be mysterious as well
Ning - November 4, 2004 04:17 AM (GMT)
Finger Fazer.... you own them? I've seen them and man, they look rather chunky :o You can only use them for stage...
JasonL - November 7, 2004 11:25 AM (GMT)
They're not chunky! They can be used just like D'lites. Stage or close up. Depends on how you handle them. I watched JSB perform it 1m away and it still looks perfectly marvellous.
exohordon - November 7, 2004 05:30 PM (GMT)

Damn, I'd rather just enslave a few red-assed pixies... burr. They're made of nothing but feathers and air anyways, so I can fit about 37 inside a TT.
OH YEAH

Try getting a pair from Steven at Magic Supreme (he's moved to Park Mall basement now)... It's 48 bucks for the pair - the size don't really matter that much you can get around it by sticking a plaster inside if it's too loose... But the junior ones are I think just the right size for a lady's hands or a pre-teen's.
Either way, if you perform it well, nobody who doesn't know what it is will really bother looking for it.. they're usually mesmerised by the lightshow... lol.
Moondust - November 23, 2004 05:08 PM (GMT)
I think I'm gonna get it. I can imagine myself surrounded by little streaks of light and high-tempo trance music in a club.
Since I'm already too darn old for Dance Revolution in the arcades and I'm too lazy to cut away my long hair, this is what I need to complete my Ah Beng image!
I'm gonna throw away my Floating Cig. D'lite, here I come!!!
makanmonkey - November 23, 2004 05:39 PM (GMT)
Actually, u can customise ur d'lites to whatever colour u want, parts available from Sim Lim Towers (not Square) at about $0.50 or less/piece, just plug out the plastic casing and change the parts. Do it gently tho... dun wan to rip the TTs

It's using those [exposure edited]?
Chandran - December 23, 2004 02:19 PM (GMT)
Yea, I've had Dlite for quite some time now.
I actually got it from Solomon at Magic Castle, cost me 25 for one, kinda pricey I guess. I got a pair.
Still remember I didn't have enough cash that time, lol.
But thankfully, he allowed me some credit so well, yea.
It's visually stimulating.
I just like doing it outta nowhere.
Just *whip* and just fool around with it.
People get amused most of the times.
But it starts getting boring fast, and when that happens, it's time to remove it.
I always tell them that the reason I have 'em is cos I swallowed a LED when I was a kid. lol.
Cheers.
Guth.

D'Lites are one of the most ripped off effect in Magic but that doesn't make it any more right for us to do it.
Changing the colour of the light does make it any more original and should be left to the creators. If enough people want a particular colour, let the creators know it.
Personally I think they are the only ones with the right to do it.
Once again, what do I know, I'm only a Magician.
