Title: 7-eleven Sells Magic Tricks ???
[LV] - June 5, 2005 07:37 AM (GMT)
fwah.. saw Pen-Thur Money trick, $9 !!
how good are they ? anyone buy any of the trick from 7-eleven before ?

Most of the tricks they sell are lower quality props of the real thing. I got this dice trick whereby a big dice in a container is shaked and it changes to many small dices. (most of you people should know this one).
The trick was relatively cheap but I saw it on a magic shop online and it was close to $20 so I guess the stuff 7-11 sells are just lower grade :)

the pen thru dollar is almost as gd as the one's by empire. really worth it.... i bought the one's by empire close to SGD40 long time ago. the dealers here might be able to sell it abt 20+. not sure though... but quality wise, very minimal difference. the once by empire is made in china anyway. u decide...

i bought abt 10 of their stuffs juz to test how gd those things are. so, anything can ask me arh.

Hey guys, I don't know... but really, if you're a performer, would you actually buy these readily recognisable cheap gimmicks from 7-11 to use??? I don't know about you, but I sure wouldn't... the last thing I'd want is to have my audience recognise them as from 7-11 (which has how many hundred stores in Singapore???) :P LOL...
But! I think it's a good platform to teach your younger siblings if they show an interest in learning from you :) ...Just a no-no if you're thinking of using it yourself.
*shrug*
Just my 2 cents worth...

I have Gician Tan's version of that trick.
My set of this is quite good, if you give more thoughts there are many possibilities. It's kinda like the okito coin box, by itself there's nothing much, but if you combine it with sleights and ideas, it can potientially by very powerful.
And i agree with ning. These are good stuff to start someone off and to use for fun with friends. But definitely don't use them if you are doing paid gigs. Imagine if the person engaging you recognises the props.
"Wah! I paid this guy so much and his magic is just using this thing from 7-11 which is only $10! I buy i also can do! I've been ripped off!"
If you use other really good quality/expensive effects with these, although they might not have seen these other effects, they might, by association, assume that all the props are in the range of $10 - $20 and it's something cheap.
My opinion.

Personally, I wouldn't use anything that looks too "gimmicky" anyway. Especially when it can't be examined. And what, Mr MagicMan can't do magic without a fancy prop?
This is the impression that your audience may get if all you do are "gimmicky" looking effects.
However don't discount the products despite the price. For example, the pen-thru anything is pretty good. What I do is first I ask to borrow a pen. If they don't have one (and who does nowadays?) I take out mine. I do Recap for them, have them examine it, then follow up with the penetration. I steal the gimmick from my pocket while they're getting some money out of their wallet.
While they examine the bill (they examined the pen after Recap, so obviously the bill must be fishy) I ditch the gimmick and get ready for them to ask to inspect the pen (which doesn't happen after this series of events).
Just a thought.

These little toys are made by Gician Novelties. They are pretty good but definately not the real deal. Gician told me his goal of producing these things is to spark interest in potential magicians. Very few people will be keen enough to go into a pro magic shop to pay hefty sums for a gimmick. These toys will come in handy and let them know a little more.
I think they are good and cheap giveaways for a kid's show or party. Reminds me of the fun little things I used to play when I was a kid... ^_^

The value of the 7-11 Magic Toys is that they get kids interested in magic. Your challenge, as a "professional" magician is to take the toy and make it do magical things the kids will be unable to replicate. In other words, start with the toy and ask how many kids in the audience got one from 7-11, and then do something so spectacular with it they will all run home to read the instructions only to find out they have no idea how you did that with yours!

hey [LV], read those opinions posted above? haha... i doubt u still wan to use these props from 7-11... haha... anw, those vase they are of the lowest quality possible. juz plastic of cos.. but wont break that easily even if u drop it. it works fine but looks really cheap. unless, u really haf a gd routine wif those... it's hardly impressive to those who know that this thing existed in 7-11. but then again, the secret to this trick is rather unknown in my opinion unlike the pen thru dollar.
