Title: Need Help On Sleights!!!

neotrident - June 11, 2005 07:18 AM (GMT)
Is there any DVDs that teaches mainly on sleights?

I have been thinking of creating new tricks but require alot of card sleights which some i don't know..card sleights only and maybe some coins...

some card sleights inculde switching cards, vanishing decks while placing a card into it and some adding cards to deck...

for coin i want some switching coins stuff....

i recently saw Heckler by Tudor which have some of the sleights i want but i cant find a review on it..

[edit]i think i miss out the review on the Daryl's Encyclopaedia Of Card Sleights,i need some coin sleights and a review on heckler..

The DVD by Darrly teaches all sleights of hands.

So does it also teaches materials from Heckler?

Nope. Heckler by Brian Tudor and Darly's Encyclopedia of card sleights is totally a different thing. LOL.. Tudor's stuff teaches you how to deal with heckler.. his teaching really is horrible. while daryl's stuff provide all the basics of card sleights ^_^

Becareful when you go near the dvd heckler. Its uhhhh complicated. The tricks are fantastic but Tudor's teaching is, terrible! He shows you how to do the sleight while some other guy does a voice over. These two actions are not synchronized so it's damn confusing.

i like daryl's teaching style.

better than those ppl who keep repeating the instructions, daryl just explains it once or twice and moves on. with some other teaching, i will find myself having to freeze in a certain position with cards as the instructor goes "let's take a look at that again. firstly, u blah blah blah" and im going "yes, im already past that step! urgh"

daryl teach much stuff and u learn fast. its like having a mini encyclopaedia of sleights in one DVD. its great!

Errmm..but i wanted to use a deck vanish in the my routine, like putting in the selected card into the middle of the deck and later the deck is gone except for the selected card..i was wondering if the encyclopedia teach that..

i wonder where can i get that deck vanish sleight..

something close to that effect u described that i really like is 51 cards to the pocket. as u can guess, the effect is 51 cards go into the performer's pocket, leaving the spec's card in the performer's hand. This is usually the last phase of a card to pocket routine (usually where the performer "exposes" palming).

but just reading ur effect description brings to my mind some methods. let ur creativity run wild, its great to start with an effect, then think up a method! and why not come up with ur own personalised method? :)

This is possibly, but not probably, a personal attack on Brian Tudor. His DVD Heckler just doesn't it. If you want to teach someone to deal with hecklers, it's not to do only stuff that will aggravate the heckler.

And most of the effects on the DVD are similar as well. And of course, Tudor's teaching is horrible. He should just stick to what he does best.

agreed. handling all sorts of hecklers is a skill in itself, which many "magicians" just aren't good at. many have become just focused on skill and technique alone.

firstly, u have to recognise the different types of hecklers and cater a particular handling for each one of them. some may evolved quick thinking on the spot, or preparing "what if" lists.

Even the Heckler on Tudor's Heckler DVD wants him to do some tricks. And he barely heckles, which is funny cus hecklers act like they know what's happening even when they don't.

Still, I found the DVD to be some good stuff. Indeed horible teaching, bad video production, etc etc but really, there are several quickies there that would drop jaws.

I think beside that, there are still many VCD that teaches on sleights too....

Yep, i agree. There are a few jaw dropping moves.. One of my favourites is the card through glass and through table.. Haha. Very nice. LOL.. but his teaching... forget it.. :P

I haven't watched Heckler but it seems like a great DVD full of creative ideas. I love Tudor's work. The stuff taught here is really bold though, and takes a lot of guts to pull off in front of a heckler. Take it as more of a great routine with a string of ideas rather than an instructional. But then again, it might be overpriced from that perspective. Oh well, I'll get this DVD soon, Tudor kicks butt.

Oh something I forgot to mention, Tudor's magic in the dvd 'heckler' isn't really magic. Yeah I know it sounds stupid but the actual routine that Tudor teaches is too fast for a layman to follow. I didn't really like this dvd.

Rating from me... 3 out of 10. Well its just my opinion folks so some other dudes may like this dvd.
