Title: Magicians Needed! Fund Raising Efforts For
Description: Moral Home for the Disabled (MHD)

Ning - June 27, 2005 03:38 AM (GMT)
Hi guys

Before the walkaround gig for CCF begins, here's another one on 16th July 2005.

Please note that this is a charity fund raiser event for the intellectual disabled kids, not a paid gig but believe me, even though there's no $$$ involved, you gain experience and go home with a warm fuzzy feeling :)

The venue is at Expo Hall 4. Performers will perform walkaround outside the hall.

The event will start at 2pm and ends at latest 8pm. SMC members participating in this gig must meet up at the Expo MRT station control @ 1.30pm for a quick briefing :) Please makan first before the gig, we don't want you to faint from hunger or take long breaks during the stint (yes even though it's a charity event, please be professional in your attitutde) ^_^

I need about 3 magicians, so please shout out if you're interested in this gig... Yujie, our veteran SMC member will be incharge of this event on the day. I'm just the facilitator :) It'd be great if you can do some balloon work, simple balloon sculpting (no cards please...zzzz).

Please post your name here - along with what u can do for this event (baloons/ rubberbands/ IT/ paddle/ sponge balls/ etc) by Sunday, 3 July midnight as we need to revert back to the organisers ASAP.

Thanks for the support you guys ^_^
Miss Ning

PS: If there's anyone interested in doing a simple stage show on that day itself, please give a shout out on this thread too, along with what you can provide as service.

MagicalPam - June 27, 2005 05:47 AM (GMT)
Ning, I am available on that date,
I can do stage show .... or walk around,

Pam

MagicalPam - June 27, 2005 05:50 AM (GMT)
Sorry forgot to mention ....
for stage show I will perform my standard kid show

for walk around : spong balls, coins, needle through balloon, mini change bag, mini coloring books, cut and restored rope, professor nightmare ....etc

Pam

Ning - June 27, 2005 06:18 AM (GMT)
That's awesome Pam! :)

They were hoping to get someone to present a stage show, would you be free on that day during that said hours? If possible, pls give more details about your stage show.

Meanwhile, others interested in doing walkarounds pls post your names here. Selected people will then be notified since the organisers are only looking for less than 5 performers.

Thanks much,
Ms Ning ^_^

JasonL - June 27, 2005 11:09 AM (GMT)
I should be available if I'm not in any of the school camps. They only want 3 magicians or we can send more?

Will be doing magic or balloons or both if need be. Let us know the exact performance timing!

Blackwing - June 27, 2005 11:24 AM (GMT)
argh so sorry ning I always try to perform for charity as much as possible. However, I have a thing called, SCHOOL. And it sucks. No cards for this gig also? Makes it even worse for me. Sorry folks can't go for this thing but please inform me if other opportunities arise. Thanks.

nick.

yujie - June 27, 2005 04:14 PM (GMT)
A million thanks to Pam for volunteering in the stage show..........much appreciated.

I need 3 more magicains, and preferably able to do some simple animal balloons. Balloons and balloon pump will be provided, no worries ^_^ . Feel free to call me at 98422716 if you have any questions.

The event is a fund raiser for the intellectual disabled kids, and it's open to the public. I would expect around 60+ kids, and they will be accompained by volunteers and parents.

as for performance, simple tricks will do,e.g. sponge balls, rubber band effects, magic coloring book, vanishing silk etc....no card tricks pls, hope you can understand

yujie

yujie - June 27, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
with regards to Jason's enquires, the event will start at 2pm, 16th July 2005. It's a saturday. So i will meet the volunteers at 1.30pm at expo MRT control station for a briefing, then we will proceed to hall 4.

Aloy - June 27, 2005 06:31 PM (GMT)
This falls during my reservist but if I'm out on the day I'll show too :)

Ning - June 28, 2005 02:16 AM (GMT)
Right, I have to say this... please please please please PLEASE don't make this into a group jamming session, if any of you guys think of popping by to lend your support. It becomes very distracting, esp when the performers are trying to do their walkaround gigs to the public

We need confirmations, so as spoken, please give us a shout if you're interested & know for sure that you can commit yourself - selected individuals will be notified since the organisation has specifically asked for just a few of us during the said hours.

Thanks much,
Ms Ning ^_^

yujie - June 28, 2005 03:16 AM (GMT)
erm, actually the organiser asked for 4 magicians, but if there are more, it will be great. I know there are still 3 weeks before the event, but i hope i can get some confirmations asap ^_^ thanks a lot, hope you can understand.

yujie

yujie - June 28, 2005 04:41 AM (GMT)
oh btw, the organiser will provide the balloons, i will also chip in some. Therefore, if you are a fan of balloon sculpture and able to twist some simple balloon figures, here's a great chance to display your skills, and do some charity to brighten up the kids.

yujie

iamthewalrus - June 29, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
When does this end?

I'd love to perform, or stroll, or whatever. Got filming session that day. I'll pop by after my work's done.

yujie - June 29, 2005 04:01 AM (GMT)
It will end around 2000hrs.

yujie

yujie - June 29, 2005 04:38 PM (GMT)

GordonLi - June 30, 2005 01:55 PM (GMT)
i volunteer a 30 min stage show.

if im chosen for stage, i'll help out with balloons too. :)

Challenge - June 30, 2005 02:22 PM (GMT)
Hi,

I'll do walkaround. I can do various tricks using IT, thumb tip, rubberbands, rope, pen, spoons, coins, rings etc. Can twist animal balloons too.

But pls let me know the specific location and meeting place. (You say, Expo hall 4 and expo MRT, but which expo hall and MRT are you talking about?) You can reach me by email.

Best,
Challenge

GordonLi - June 30, 2005 03:28 PM (GMT)

Challenge - June 30, 2005 03:48 PM (GMT)

Challenge

yujie - July 1, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
sorrie gordie, Pam is helping out in the stage show.....so is it possible for you to help out in the walkaround?

Ning - July 3, 2005 04:29 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the post you guys... Yujie & I will discuss and get back to you if we'd be able to let everyone who's interested to contribute for this particular charity event or we need to stick to the organisation's specific requirements of only 4 magicians :)

Cheers,
Ms Ning ^_^

yujie - July 9, 2005 03:18 PM (GMT)

There will be heart shaped balloons too... LOL

Yujie, save a teddy bear with a pink one for me :P

yujie - July 16, 2005 05:22 PM (GMT)
hi all,

i must said a big thank you to blackwing, challenge and pam. You guys are superb. Although the turn out was not tat good, but i'm sure we have fun. I can said everything was quite smooth...great work, next time must treat you all to a drink when we meet again

Coming to a serious note, this performance reminded me of how lucky am i,and gave me a valuable lesson in life. I was involoved in 2 charty event before, one was the disability awarness week and the other one was the children cancer foundation, but this event really struck me. This was because i really interact a lot with the mentally disabled kids. I was actually quite heart-broken when i was performing for the intellectually disabled.........i pity them a lot......why is this world is so unfair to them?....some are as old as me, one of them was 26 years old, but why they are so unforunate? And i think their parents are more heart-broken. Often, i complained my schools sucks, or my workplace is far, my mother is naggy, etc..........complained this, complained that................but i guess i shouldn't complain so much .......

lastly, i felt that althought performing for charity gig does not have any monetary rewards, but it does help to improve one's magic skills and confidence, and perhaps more importantly, it also gave some pointers in one's life, and a chance to reflect on oneself..........

that's all i have to say for today. hope each of us can use our magic powers to brighten up those who less forunate than us.

yujie

Blackwing - July 17, 2005 02:21 AM (GMT)
The event was pretty sweet. It all ran quite smoothly and there were a couple of girls to look at : ).

yeah folks what yujie wrote is really true. We can't really tell how fortunate we are to be born without any birth defects. There were a couple of down syndrome guys at the event and I can say I really bonded with them.

When you see someone with a birth defect, smile at him/her, don't stare.

Anyway, this gives me a point in my world peace goal. Haha 999 more charity events to go.

Nick.

Ning - July 18, 2005 02:51 AM (GMT)
Way to go you guys! :) From the words of it, you did an awesome job. Thanks for posting your feelings about this... bonus karma points for you ^_^
