how do yall do the muscle pass?..i can't seem to even pop the coin up..is it bcos my hands' too wet?
Kevin - June 29, 2005 07:29 PM (GMT)
Actually, if your hands are a bit moist it's better. The key is to just practice it until it comes to you... ask anyone who can do it to tell you how they got big marks on their palms.. hehe. If you're doing it right-handed, make sure the coin flies up counter-clockwise.

Kev is the man, he did very good muscle pass. Maybe he can show u some time when there is a jam session. :)

If I'm the man, then Huron is Clark Kent... he does the muscle pass with 5 cent coins, computer keyboards, bottle caps... you name it, he does it :|

Somehow, my hands have a certain kind of pattern. My first muscle pass for the day won't work. My second, third, fourth, fifth up till about 20+ mucle passes, will be perfect. After that, I sort of lose energy and my muscle passes don't work anymore.
Here's a nice tip if you wanna perform the muscle pass. Use a tissue paper and dampen it slightly. Rub it on your skin and enjoy perfect muscle passes.

Do you consider the muscle pass a coin flourish? I think its more like an effect itself. I've seen this topic somewhere in the money section.
Kevin - July 1, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
Indeed, there WAS another topic on this, and this should be moved to the coin/money magic section :P

I'm not really a coin person, but was trying to learn the muscle pass for sometime already. How long did it take you to master it? I kept trying but to no avail, only manage to grip the coin tighter but not "flicking" it out. haiZ..... any advice?
Huron - July 4, 2005 01:55 PM (GMT)
Hello hello.
Start by practising it sideways, not upwards. Within an hour you should be able to make it pop out of your hand. Continue this practise over the next 3 weeks. By then, you should have a reasonably far and comfortable sideways distance. Now, try upward.
It's much harder because of gravity.
Progress in Stages for upward muscle pass:
1)Coin flips over on palm
2)Coin jumps up about 2 cm from the palm.
3)Coin jumps 6 cm from the palm.
4)Coin jumps 20 cm from the palm.
Each stage will have an approx 3 week difference.
Progress usually stagnates at one stage, and suddenly spurts to the next. The stagnation is what causes people to give up, so please don't give up. The most talented person in the muscle pass I've seen is Justy.
He accomplished stage 3 in a day... here's the kicker... IN BOTH HANDS.
The fastest ever learner though, taught my John Cornelius, who was the first who shot the coin upwards, was a Russian, who managed to "do the muscle pass" in a minute. Which stage he accomplished, I'm not sure, but it's still VERY impressive. Yeap. That's all.

I think i got my muscle pass within around 1 month plus; hardcore practising. If your hand doesnt hurt after practising for 3 hours, your technique is wrong. If it hurts, continue practising.
When it peels, its even better.
If you get bruises, you're getting it!
And yes, Huron is correct, shooting from side to side does help alot.
And finally,
back to practising of muscle passing with my LEFT hand.

hi, this post has been here for quite long n i'm sry to dig it up again.. because i can't find somewhere else to share my excitment.. ok listen.
I"VE SUCCESSFULLY DID A MUSCEL PASS!!
haha.. after 1 week of hard training i've finally made it B) petty cool.
i practice with malaysia 50 cent n later found a old geenie funland coin and i use that.. and after a while i managed to do with e token.. and now i can do with malaysia 50 cent too! so excited abt it.. as e pain paid off. HAHA :D
btw, may i ask when doin e muscel pass effect, do u guys try to hide e flexing motion of e muscel or just do it openly?

I just do it openly. I've times where my friends take my coin and tried to squeeze the coin from their palms; in other words, try doing a muscle pass. Of course they cant do it, and thats where the magic is.
Blackwing - September 5, 2005 12:22 PM (GMT)
I do it with the right side of my palm facing the audience. Vijay taught me to do it that way.

Magic is something which cannot be explained by rational means.
If you think that your friends think that you can do magic because you can squeeze coins upwards with your palms, then you're seriously deluding yourself.
If your friends know that you're squeezing the coins upwards, then you are commiting exposure.
bdkbwhblk - September 20, 2005 12:36 PM (GMT)
this muscle pass, does it matter in what direction u flip it up...??? ( clockwise or anti )... most people i know who can do the muscle pass, flip the coin, using their right hand, anti clockwise... since I'm doing with my left hand, can i also flip it anti...??? does it make any difference...???
fume - September 20, 2005 02:51 PM (GMT)
argh, may i know do u guys practice until e "squeeze" is not that visible? because i realise every time i do it they will say i "squeeze" it. although they can't do it themselves and no matter how far n how i direct my hand angle.. everyone seems to say i squeeze it. any tips?
bdkbwhblk - September 21, 2005 10:18 AM (GMT)
for me... it works... pple get that 'wow' expression... my tip, i use small coins such as american quaters... so i dont need to move my hand much to make it pop...

I'm jealous, can't do it at all with small coins. Must be really difficult doing the muscle pass with quarters.
bdkbwhblk - September 22, 2005 09:54 AM (GMT)
not really that difficult because it requires only a little amount of squeezing when the coin really sits in your palm... try it...

I think small hands = small coins, bigger hands = bigger coins.. Lol.

Hmmm...maybe so, I don't know. If a quarter is for small hands and I can only make a 50cents SG coin go about 1cm up, I think I have gorilla palms -_-'
HarapanOng - October 22, 2005 01:40 PM (GMT)
Does the weight matter? I mean yes the size does matter (as we know) but what a bout weight?
Don't you think america half dollars, though big, are a bit heavy? For me I use Indonesian 100 Rupiah.. It's big and light, though thin. Helps me a lot in the muscle pass.
And moreover, you won't feel anything when you lose it accidentally... 100 rupiah is less than SG 2 cents. :)
Lefty - December 12, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
By the way, anyone uses Singapore 50 cents coin to do muscle pass, or is it too difficult. I have benn trying so hard with singapore 50 cents coin and so far, the coin only give a flip..... from head to tail.... <_<
bdkbwhblk - December 12, 2005 03:41 AM (GMT)
hey lefty, recently i have been doing this muscle pass using our own local 50 cents coin, its the same technique and of course u have to practise, practise and practise. since i can do the muscle pass with american quaters, i find it easy to do it with spore 50 cents coins too.
one comment, some 50 cents coin will have quite sharp edge so be careful. ;)

I find it very very hard to measure. Also, if you put the back of ur hand flat on a table/surface, the height the coin goes is GREATLY reduced. That little jerk you exert when you display the "Anti-gravity" coin helps way lot.

I like to see a 1 meter muscle pass.

me too me too! kind of cool to see a 1 meter muscle pass.
Markiebeth - December 17, 2005 01:57 AM (GMT)
LoL, I don't want to sound sarcastic or what but 1m seems pretty much like real magic already. Most probably you must be a 'palm bodybuilder' or something to achieve that standards. Will be great to see such great achievements from fellow SMC forumites...
zzzbowenzzz - December 19, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
lol just joking, fun to see so many ppl shock hahaha..my real MP height is around 38-41..no joking matters :)
Magicdow - December 19, 2005 10:50 AM (GMT)
I think everyone is trying to be polite not shocked.
jonatha - April 6, 2006 06:27 PM (GMT)

jonatha - April 6, 2006 06:40 PM (GMT)

Ace - April 9, 2006 12:18 PM (GMT)
MP.... One of those no pain no gain magic tricks.... Took me close to one month.....
I can still remember how happy i was when i get the MP down....
" Hey look i DID IT!' * showing off to fellow magician friends who thought MP is a myth*
My left hand can do the MP higher than my right hand... maybe cause i don't practice much with my right hand... I still need my right hand to draw haha
