Title: Post Counts

Xtreme - July 1, 2005 11:39 AM (GMT)
Hello. I have a problem here. I have been posting for more than 10 over times in this forum over the week. But my post count stucks at 108. Can I know what is the problem?

I think post counts for the intro section is disabled. I mean such that you won't get more posts by posting there.

Just to add on, the feature of intro posts not counted was added about a month ago, when we decided that too many people were trying to up their post rep by just saying "Hi! Welcome to SMC" eighty bajillion times in the intro forum. Like Edge and Christian used to say, "This is totally unacceptable behaviour!" :D

Hi Xtreme :) Yup, it's in the announcements bit I think. There's been some changes - no more 'points' given for intros & stuff posted in the misc. section of things.

I know you're not one of those but there are some folks out there who try to get more 'points' for a 'higher status' by making posts that aren't really beneficial to the higher learning and support of what this forum was created for.

Just so to let let you know that no, there isn't anything wrong with your account ;)

Cheers,
ning

can we change the system?..to like the date we join or sumthin??..
cos decidin our 'status' by word count seems to constrict what people wants to write, for fear that they're accused of spammin..and that in turn turns this into a 'stagnent' forum..

just my point of view.. ^_^

btw...will this add to my word count?/..

hey i have the same problem... so in which section there is no post count given other than the intro section

bigbadwolf - March 23, 2006 05:50 AM (GMT)
i believe only posts in Fellowship of the Ring, It's Magic, and Flourishes and Manipulations sections contribute to post counts.

But why take note of the counter? its not going to get you discounts when you hit 100 posts.

its just numbers... :P

Aloy - March 23, 2006 05:50 AM (GMT)
Post counts are only added in the magic sections. So places like Marketplace and Misc will have no post counts.

Post counts is another informal way of gauging the "trust-worthines" of a user, and how much the user has been contributing.

Also, post counts activates certain functionalities.
Like viewing members profile, seeing members list, the number of emails to be sent in a day, the ability to edit and delete own posts, the ability to start a new thread in Marketplace, etc etc.

Important note:
We realise this system will encourage some users to post for the sake of posting, e.g. 1 line posts like "I agree", "LOL!", "That's funny!", "Really?", or posts that are really pointless.
When a user has been noticed to make these kind of posts regularly, their post counts will be reduced, often by 30% to 50%.
It may seem a little drastic but usually a user will not have the post counts reduced the 1st few times they make such posts.
When it is noticed that a user making a lot of such posts, it usually means they have been doing it a lot and very regularly, so the reduction is justifiable.

i remember you mentioning that there is a section where only SMC members are allowed access into.

How is it to be eligible to be a SMC member?

please correct me if I'm wrong ^_^

The members system is suspended for the time being. There are not enough organisers/mods to consistantly mantain it.

The problem is we have a lot of ideas, but not enough implementors. A simple example is the SMC T-Shirt. This wasn't the 1st time it was bought up or thought up. But everyone is waiting for someone else to do it. B)

It MIGHT come back later....
when we can identify more people who can step up to take up active roles and become mods. Organising meetings, making videos, consolidating articles, picking up tasks...etc etc.

haha i understand the situation.

maybe is because all of us are magicians but not fabric designers :P
