Title: Nkf Charity Show On Channel 8 This Evening...
Ning - July 3, 2005 12:52 PM (GMT)
Did anyone see the exposure of a stage illusion act involving Chew Chor Meng & Yvonne? The shots of the audience weren't happening either- they looked so bored!
Having a 2 person stage show was good enough... why did they have to expose the secret to people who don't even care?
Entertainment down the drain... grrrrr <_<
Navarrone - July 3, 2005 01:26 PM (GMT)
wow....tat was fast......nt really well done...haha...but what can we expect?they are actors,nt magicians, wonder who is the magician who gave them the plans and stuff....
Magicdow - July 3, 2005 01:57 PM (GMT)
Blame the guy who taught them. They wouldn't know anything about ethics of magic.
But I guess it wouldn't realy hurt us. Who'd use that kind of box on that kind of stage?

Hey Bernard, did you catch that dice stacking part done by Zoe tay?
I think you OWNed her. :P
nyx - July 3, 2005 03:14 PM (GMT)
darn it. i was performing this very effect for my audience when mediacorp decided to expose it. Now wad do i live on??
Luckily i modified it in such a way that a cloth covering the stage won't be needed. -phew- BBUUUTTT i still have to come up with a way of seperating the body parts more convincingly now. DARN.
WHY do they have to expose it!?
Anyway, Zoe Tay just learned dice stacking not long ago, give her some credits la. Don't compare with the pros man. I'm a noob to dice stacking too! i guess i'm lousier than her, currently. :P

Ahhh!!! Exposure Alert!! Exposure Alert!! This is intolerable!! Ahh!!! I'm going mad!! Ahhh!!! Magic is destroyed!!! Ahh!! Who suggested that idea of exposing the trick??!! Ahh!!! That person is a jerk!! Charity is charity, but exposure for charity??!! No!! Ahh!!! No matter how simple that trick was, it shouldn't be exposed!!! Ahh!! Why??!! Why??!!
Sorry... back to normal... Just kidding about the jerk part. Well, this rings a bell to me. No matter how simple your trick is(close-up, stage, whatever), exposure is never an option even if it screws up...
*Recovering from lurker-ism*
Ben - July 3, 2005 04:02 PM (GMT)
Yeah man. I was astounded when they exposed the secret. The magician who taught them really has no ethics of magic. I do agree with Magicdow that it wouldn't hurt us so much as not many of us would make use of that kind of box. But still, it hurts magic.
[Ling] - July 3, 2005 04:07 PM (GMT)
Shit happens.
Sigh.
But what Bernard said, it's true. Who the heck will get a darn box?
llamalamer - July 3, 2005 04:14 PM (GMT)
Just a note: they even made a transparent box just to expose the thing... what an effort made for charity...
*crosses fingers*Yeah!!! Well done!!!
Ning - July 3, 2005 04:57 PM (GMT)
Whatever happened to the sacred Magician's Code? Did it fly out of the window?
*still cheesed off*
:(

Darn it.. Can't believe they actually expose it.. sheeshh!!! THE ART OF MAGIC IS DESTROYED.. =( Can't blame them thou.. They thought by exposing it they will gain more calls thou.. BUT WHAT FLARES ME IS THAT THE AUIDENCE DOESN'T SEEMED IMPRESSED WHEN THE TRCIK IS PERFORM!!!!!!! is like they were BORED!!!! shEesHH!!
Multi-Talent - July 3, 2005 05:41 PM (GMT)
Hi All,
Anyone writing a letter to complain TCS about not respecting our art? I didn't watch the show but from the way everyone speaks it seems very serious...no doubt the box is something we will not use but still a secret is a secret, and TCS is damaging the life and soul of people who enjoy/believe in magic...

I saw the dice stacking by Zoe Tay, they make everything seem so difficult. I guess this will elevate dice stackers to a higher level. :)

Damn, now I'm gonna have to go back to doing the 21-card trick, Ball & Vase, and of course the Balducci levitation.

oh my god! I am surprised when my friend told me about it! I didn't watch it!
It sound like the one that Pen and Teller exposed on their very first special. But then, they are not P&T, so I doubt the effect will be good! The way P&T is amusing though.
Although I agree this is not really the true "secret" of such tricks, (just not practical), such exposure is not good reflection of magic as an art.
haizzz... Boycott NKF!!!
KM
p.s. Alan, if you see this msg, you didn't watch tv for too long already la. They already rebrand themselves Mediacorp I think about a decade ago?? no longer TCS. :!!:

frankly, i think they hype up EVERYTHING they do... even the act of giving to charity is defiled by their constant emphasis on all the prizes to be won.
alan, the illusion exposed is some effect where the person has to slide under the platform from one end to another to achieve a transposition effect.
while i have never seen any1 make use of this, i find their casual attitude towards the exposure of magical secrets highly appalling.
Winder - July 4, 2005 01:29 PM (GMT)
from what i notice, they had no respect for the art of magic, even in the show called "top fun" which is aired on monday night, they even caught a coin effect and slow it down.
GordonLi - July 4, 2005 01:35 PM (GMT)
yes, and the performer is to blame too.
1. repeating the effect knowing they want to catch it
2. for not pre-warning against exposure
3. for not objecting to exposure
but i feel that if the performer was a professional (or at least acted like 1), they wouldnt try to expose it. (eg. jeremy pei's appearances on tv)
[Ling] - July 4, 2005 01:43 PM (GMT)
All I can say is ''sigh''....
:(
Blackwing - July 4, 2005 02:44 PM (GMT)
well life's like that. Everything can't go our way all the time right? Its our job to show these folks how to perform right. Sheesh exposure spoils magic but when exposed sleights are done properly, no layman would be able to detect anything. Oh, stage magic is a totally different story though.
Mabas - July 6, 2005 08:48 AM (GMT)
This is sad. Magic is really becoming more worse with things such as this. On the bright side, it does make magicians to think of better effects right? Not that I'm supporting them. I truely hated it.
lukold - July 7, 2005 11:13 AM (GMT)
mm lets go sue mediacorp for a billion bucks for spoiling our art.. LOL justkidding.
BlUeCoWz - July 13, 2005 01:27 PM (GMT)
 and moses lim just did the hands across on stage, spoiling the trick for every1,
sighz... sich is a time that shows are so desperate as this...
personally i'm surprised his arms coul actually cross..
weehome - July 13, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
I think we have more reason to boycott NKF now... not just because of the magic secrets...
Ben - July 14, 2005 06:48 AM (GMT)
But still, we have to spare a thought for the patients. It's not fair to them if they have to suffer because of NKF's wrongdoings.
