Title: Dice Stacking Workshop
Description: I want to see response

weehome - July 6, 2005 05:00 AM (GMT)
I am thinking of organising a dice stacking workshop by Brad Manuel in Sep. (School holidays)

He is quite some experience in dice stacking and stack as high as 25 dice before. Todd Strong and others has requested to him input some ideas into their video/books before.

But I want to see some response first. If I am able to get at least 15 persons here, then it will only be worthwhile. I am trying to make it accessible to everyone by making it $20-25? All money will go direct to Brad, not me!

Usually, a subsidised lecture is about $30 for IBM. So if you are interested, then reply here. Thanks!

I'm a total noob in dice; I can hardly shake the cup and keep the dice inside.

However, I was kinda motivated by Zoey Tay's charity performance. My friend's friend's is from Mediacorp, and believe it or not, he said that Zoey only practised around 1 week. So I thought, if she can do it, why not me?

I've been thinking about getting books or DVDs on dice stacking, but now that there's a workshop, I think i'll give it a shot as my first step.

But just one last thing, I'm totally clueless to the world of dice, not to even say dice stacking. Would that be alright? Haha.

Thanks.

I'm interested! ^_^

Dice stacking is very easy. I've taught a friend and he was able to stack within an hour.

Kien Meng, any idea what he'll be teaching? Should I attend the workshop?

Mabas - July 6, 2005 08:53 AM (GMT)
Just a few questions. Is the course for total noobs? Zero skill? (Cause I know as much about dice as much as I know about speaking German) Also is the materials provided or must we bring stuff ourself like bring your own cups and dices.
Thanks.

I think you posted this thread at the right time.

Everyone is influenced by Zoey Tay.

Just like David Blaine.

Yes guys for those who are interested in dice stacking this is definately a workshop to go for! Brad Manuel was here about two months ago and Kien Ming and I had the priviledge of a short dice stacking session in his hotel room. Brad holds the unofficial record of the most number of dice stacked with 25 dice in a single cup! It is a huge cup!

He held a lecture in IBM and at the end of the lecture, he gave us a quick demonstration of his skills to those who stayed back. Bernard you were there too so you know how he fared!

For those "noobs" in dice stacking, don't worry. I knew absolutely nothing about dice stacking before I met Brad but after the short session with him I could stack four dice rather easily. It really helps if you get someone who knows to teach you!

Show of hands who is interested! :D

hihs - July 6, 2005 11:45 AM (GMT)
*hands up! * :D :D
perhaps i wanna go.

Adriel, We fly him over here in Sep to give a dice working workshop.. if you want to postpone to Dec, can la, but can sponsor the air ticket and hotel? :P And that time, the cost won't the same cos dec is peak period for all magicians around the world!

I think he will cover a wide range of topics for beginners - how to stack, how kind of dice, surface, container, etc (in fact, the best way to start is learning the right way, and not pick up bad habits) and for more experience - some presentation ideas and how to incorporate magic and into it.

I think we will get quite some hands-on practise. (So this will be more like a masterclass than lecture.)

Frankly, I haven't settle the price with him yet but IBM usually charges $30/pax for a lecture and a master class cost at least $45-60. But I guess there are a lot of students here in SMC and I don't want to make it too inaccessible to all of you. But if we can get quantity, that will lower the price for all of us. The lesser the people, maybe the more we have to pay. But I think if we can get 15 pax from SMC, I can negotiate a rate at about $20-$25. (I will get more from SAM and IBM once there is enough interest)

yeah, JasonL and I had a session with him in the middle of the night making dice fly around the hotel room 2months ago! He also corrected my mistake when I was dice stacking. (I learn from a book so picked up a lot of bad habits! In my days, no DVD!!!) It certainly rekindle my interest in dice stacking again!

Bernard, you can even consider putting up a booth if Brad is not selling anything! I am sure your dice will be sold out after that!

weehome - July 6, 2005 05:17 PM (GMT)
oops, just saw Mabas' post, material wise, no materials are not provided

it is ideal if you can buy the dice for the class itself. I don't know if Brad sells them.

dice you can get from Magicdow and for cups, maybe ning or magicdow can get? any idea to get the cups?

anyway, just to tell everyone a story, one member of IBM was so inspire by Brad's short session, he came to my house the next day to borrow my dice, went ard singapore to hunt for them. and bought a number of "cups". But his overexcitement ended up breaking a glass at house. hahaha... really fun stuff!

JasonL - July 6, 2005 10:00 PM (GMT)
Yup Bernard would be great if you can bring some dice and cups to the place so we can buy them from you and try. No use just going there to watch others stack when you don't have a set right? What do you say bernard?

Magicdow - July 6, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
You'll need to ask Brad Manuel first if he is selling anything, afterall, its his workshop. Let me know in advance so that I can get enough dice in.

I managed to source some cheap cups. They are meant for drinking but I managed to stack dice with this cup.

Russell - July 7, 2005 07:44 AM (GMT)
I'm interested too.

weehome - July 7, 2005 08:04 AM (GMT)
Ok. It's almost confirmed. I think we probably will have enough people. It will probably be on the Monday on Sep holiday, evening.

Brad will be selling the cups, dice and gimmicked dices too. But if you want to save money, my suggestion would be to bring a normal cup that works, and if you think those on sale are good, you can buy them. So at least you will go to the workshop and have hand-on practise although you didn't buy the items.

Russell - July 7, 2005 08:31 AM (GMT)
Do you think you can find out the prices of his items?

GordonLi - July 7, 2005 09:10 AM (GMT)
ive been thinking abt this for quite some time, and i think yea, i'll go for it.

thanks for organising this kien meng!

MagicalPam - July 7, 2005 01:04 PM (GMT)
I will go if I am in singapore,
he is very good magician and teacher
( I have attended his lecture last time in IBM)
guys, this is highly recommended

rknights - July 9, 2005 03:53 AM (GMT)
has to be a member of any club to go?? if not, i'm some kinda of interested. just need to have the exact date.

weehome - July 9, 2005 05:02 AM (GMT)
You have to be from SMC, IBM or SAM to take part in this workshop. Non-member magician will have to pay a higher price.

Secondly, dice stacking is a SKILL! if you are going to go there to learn secrets, oops, sorry for disappointing you. There is no magic "secrets" to dice stacking. But you will definitely learn a lot of methods and ideas of dice stacking.

Mabas - July 11, 2005 09:30 AM (GMT)
Looking for advice. What kind of cups and dice should a beginner look for to buy to practice?

weehome - July 12, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
erm... come for the lecture than you will know? :P

Cup - flexible.... Depending on how many dice you want to stack... YOu can experiment with the width and height. I was like looking at the prinkles (don't know how to spell) potato chip can, it looks almost like the one Zoe Tay was using isn't it.

Dice - Casino dice are the best. Ask Magicdow for some.

Falcon121 - August 21, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)
I'm kinda interested but i need to know how much it will cost me (not a SMC member yet) also i need to get dice and a cup, so i need to know how much he'll be charging for that or anyone else for that matter...

weehome - August 23, 2005 04:54 PM (GMT)
For dice and cup, you can bring your own if you want. Get normal straight drinking glass, and big dice. Search on the net will give you lots of advice on what kind of cup and dice is suitable.

Normal dice from him are just couple of dollars ea. (I expect it to be less than $4 definitely.) I m not too sure abt the normal cups.

The cost is $25 for the workshop. ($5 extra for others.) I will discuss with Jason so see if we can give you the $25.
