Title: Bugis Busker
Description: selling Talismen

Magicdow - July 6, 2005 09:05 AM (GMT)
There is this old man in Bugis, near the Chinese temple selling Talismen. I pass by today and saw the man pitching.

He was showing some "miracles" to the surronding group of people. He kept saying he has been helping people to strike lottery for 48 yrs and so far no one has come back to thank him (probably no one he "helped" has ever strike lottery).

Anyway, I saw him perform this "effect". He brought out a stack of small talisman. Took one out and used a marker to scribble some lines on it. He then asked a spectator (don't know if I should call him a spec or a victim) to choose one. He showed the talisman around, saying that there is no writing on it. He went and took some ashes from a lit joss stick and rub on the paper (ala Blaine).

The talisman was slowly revealed to show some numbers on it, he also took the earlier talisman he scribbled on to compare the pen stroke on the chosen talisman.

He can also perform other stuff like making a salted fish swim (note, he will only let a few see as the bowl is covered.

If you want to see, he is there everyday except on Tue, but he said that he'll be going to Sabah and will be back on the 21 st.

Warn your friends and parents not to fall for it.

stupid frauds, cant stand them.

(i think im having the houdini syndrome...)

Blackwing - July 6, 2005 12:47 PM (GMT)
In my opinion, thats how magic should be presented. The audience should believe that the magician has powers. However, I dissaprove of 'fakes' telling victims to buy lottery tickets and stuff. Heck, its hard to explain.

Ben - July 6, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
He is indeed performing magic, but his intention is to lie, cheat and steal

hihs - July 6, 2005 02:43 PM (GMT)
huh? he lie cheat and steal? i heard that he is Andy i think.. (not the andy in SMC) he came from hong kong and i heard that he is quite good. he sell home made video.

Ben - July 6, 2005 02:51 PM (GMT)
I didn't say he's not good. But making people believe his 'special power' and buy his 'special' talisman is cheating. Isn't it? <_<

I believe the person selling tailsman isn't Andy.

I'm sure its other people.

R_jayz - July 6, 2005 06:11 PM (GMT)
where got people will believe him? lidat the spore pools close down liao...

Magicdow - July 6, 2005 11:23 PM (GMT)
Its not Andy. Anyway, the guy pitching magic stuffs are not Andy too.

You guys should go and take a look, perhaps pick up some presentation skills?

You might wonder why some people choose to believe these talismans. Some are gullible, some are ignorant and maybe some are even desperate. Some actually experience striking 4 d (this is probably due to luck and not because of the man).

Anyway, to give an example I read from a book. A horse racing bookie gives out tips for free but if you were to win the race because of the tips he gave, you'll have to pay him a percentage of the winnings. So how does the bookie make money? Certainly not because he can forecast races.

All he need to do is this, if there are 5 horses racing and he has 50 betters, he just need to tell 10 betters to bet on horse number 1 and 10 to bet on horse number 2 and so on.....

At the end of the race, there'll bound to have 10 winners due to the tip the bookie gave. Easy money right?

I'm sure there's lots of people using this principle to cheat money out there.

Well, seems like there is tons of conversation in here. What should I say, we as a magician we should not try to criticise other magician/performer. If you think he is using magic to make his performance. Pls do take some effort and time to see his way of presenation. If you do know what he is doing and how it is done, take this opportunity and learn how he present the whole effect.

Althought they are not magician, but its a good way to be an audience once with magician view and learn from the others.

I hope that you guys can learn from all sort of street performers.

and

finally, DO RESPECT all performers.

Regards
Symmatrix

hihs - July 7, 2005 01:34 PM (GMT)
i agree.
i was thinking if i was the one who got flame by SMC member IF i perform there and start to 'cheat'.

Magicdow - July 7, 2005 02:37 PM (GMT)
Sure, we have to respect performers but we DON''T have to respect cheats. Do you respect those who prey on old women using the black stone? They are also using magic principles and sleight of hand to accompolish their "effect". I don't think I will have any respect for these people.

[LV] - July 7, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
money, magic, feelings, studies, gaming..

as long as it's clean, i will praise it

.

Winder - July 8, 2005 02:25 AM (GMT)
Talking about respect, there's this line which comment "The rank is what you wear, but the respect is what you earn." You don't ask for respect or expect respect, you earn it through hardship and integrity.

If what he's doing is cheating people of their hard-earn money like what Magicdow said, then does he really deserve our respect or do we have to respect him cause of that ?

I don't think so, well yes, he's making a living using those "Magic" but if he's just pure cheating people especially those old ladies of their hard-earned money, then i don't think the respect is of any use to him anyway.

*Peace*~

Magicdow, let's set up a stall right next to him when he's back la... SMC can kick his ass to high heaven B)

I can be the girl banging the gongs and we can do the shattering of a whole concrete rock slab across your abs thing using grey syrofoam rocks :P Then you can use your qigong internal energy to levitate some 4D numbers out of a rusty old chinese cup before doing a series of Richard Osterlind routines as a final kicker!

The rest of SMC can act like your minons where we gush about how you made a fortune for us and are truly, a god :P

Disgusting really, such conmen... bleah <_<

when one person complain about something, the whole gang come and complain, then when another person comment about something, the whole gang come and comment.

recently i remember got 1 demo video or sneak preview, first few post, praising the video and the person editing it, next few post tio bomb with "Credits" and stuff...

you people hor........ the wind blow where, u all go where...

just take a look at our youngsters (fwah lan, making me so old), one group wear some Nike rubberbands, almost 90% of teenages i saw wear the Nike rubberbands, and now 7-ELEVEN also sell their version of rubberband..

I plan to setup a store soon... selling the Sun WuKong headband, golden ring, wear on the head... $19.90 each, get 2 friends buy together, and get yours at 50% discounted price....zzzzzzzzz

In a public forum, it is very common. You see that some agree and some disagree.

You can't get everyone to agree with your point of view. But what we can do is to agree to disagree. ;)
