Description: cards
MiloKing - July 9, 2005 12:59 AM (GMT)
is it true that the playing cards are linked to poker cards and poker cards are thus an insult to God(Jesus)?
if this is so how are the christians able to carry on magic...a qn im dying to ask L&P.....

haha...if that is an insult to god....then what are gospel magicians for?
adrielho11 - July 10, 2005 10:53 AM (GMT)
I remember reading a book..something about how cards are created..forgot the content though..
all i remember is the book say each suit represents a season in a year and the 52 cards represent the 52 weeks in a year..can't remember the rest..yall can go check this book out at borders(that's where i read it)...most probably at the magic section..
happy finding..

there is not much diff between playing cards and poker cards. both are usually used interchangeably.
cards are by themselves not evil, its only in the way people use them (eg. for gambling). to draw an analogy, it is not evil to have horse races, but betting on them is another thing altogether.
the magic most of us do is purely for entertainment purposes. the role of god is not undermined as we do not claim to have any "magical" or "godly" powers.
hence, the performing of magic by itself is perfectly fine and not an insult to anyone.
the point brought up by adrielho11 is an interesting point that many have probably seen b4, but whether the cards were designed as such or it is just a coincidence is not yet proven.

haha, this is my field! :P
Well, playing or poker cards did really orginate from Tarot cards. Tarots contain 78 cards, 22 Major Acarna, and 56 Minor Arcarna.
And, the modern day playing cards suits, like Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds and Spades, came from the suits of the Tarot cards, namely Wands, Cups, Pentacles and Swords.
And the Playing cards have traces of resemblances from the Tarot cards.
And, playing cards can be used to divine the future as well, just like tarots.

mlioking!
regarding whether Xtians (X = shortform for Christ, FYI) can carry cards and stuff around to perform magic, i think i have the answer for you. because i am an active Xtian and have been peforming for several years.
it really depends on what kind of presentation you are using. if one presents magic as a form of entertainment, or means to get a message across, that is perfectly fine in the scriptures. As the Bible has written, "By all means, save some. (can't find exactly where it is, if you are interested, PM me and i'll reply you with the location...)
but then if your presentation involves divination (bogus or real), hypnosis (of any sort), occultic stuff (real or fake), then please stop. As the Bible writes that God condemns it. "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his sons or daughters in the fire, WHO PRACTICES DIVINATION OR SORCERY, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or cast spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead." Deuteronomy 18.10-11
well, it speaks real clearly in the Bible about what Xtian magicians can do and what they can't do. Even in Acts 8.9-13, it tells the story of Simon the magician who amazed the people of Samaria. Simon was converted by Philip the apostle and he saw the miracles and signs that Philip the apostle did in the name of X.
haha. Well, so much of Bible quotes, here is one advice I give to all fellow Xtian magicians: of all the things you do, do it for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10.31). Go out there, using the skills and talents that God has given you, to fufill His Great Commission (Matthew 28:19).
P.S. Any questions, comments, criticisms pls PM me... i lurk here all the time... rarely i post... thx...

OK. Non-sectarian post. Please don't misunderstand.
I think it's perfectly OK to do magic trickery if you're Christian or not.
Remember the fundamentalist hoo-ha a few years ago when young master Harry Potter appeared? That was just a little ridiculous, and people are apologising now for their initial antagonism.
Back on track, all of Man are given some things and have other things taken away from them. If it is the way that the things you are given includes magic, use it to the best of your ability to better yourself. The instance you use your magic abilities to fool and con people (TNP alert! Local spoon benders! Sigh...) , you'll find yourself on the losing end sooner or later.
Many of us are agreeing here, that's good. I believe we all do magic here for non-religious purposes, all the better to avoid any religious consequences.
Remember, a gun is not evil in itself. The finger that pulls the trigger sometimes is.
BTW, Dave Mckean has a BEAUTIFUL set of Tarot cards on sale. I just had to say that, sorry!

Tarot Cards, Oujia Board etc...all these things are related to spirits..Spirits can destroy u..When u play those Oujia Board or wad, u are actually giving an invitation to Satan( the evil one ) to come to yr life and destroy u..
There are some people whom are playing with black magic in other words, Real Magic..NO Tricks or gimmicks behind it..using the spirit to help them..David blaine should be one of them...Criss angel might oso be one of them...they might be great magicians, but are their magic clean?thats wad i tink..no insults..;)

You are joking right?
There are some people who thinks that when there's no reasonable explanation for certain things, it is associated with black magic, satan etc...
That's how people get con into the magic stone.

I heard before that poker cards are somehow linked to tarot cards. i.e 52 cards refers to 52 weeks in a year. The 4 suits represent 4 seasons etc.

No no no..me not joking..really.There are really magicians using black magic..They are similar to soceries..and diff from the magic stone ppl used to con another party..If i am not wrong, David Blaine is on e of them..i am suspecting that Criss Angel is one of them too..Take a look at their magic esp Blaine..how is it possible for him to tell people to tink of someone in his/her mind and later use his stomach to form out the image? How is it possible for coins to float?Rmb there was a episode of him goin to a begger with a cup of coffee. He shake the coffee and many many coins float..Yes u might say that i am too stupid to tink that he is using black magic..but i can only tell u tis is wad i believe..people haf its own view bout others and i tink tis is a fact..Dunno wad u guys tink!! :D haha!
Magicdow - August 3, 2005 12:48 AM (GMT)
Do more research and you'll know more. I've never come across a magician who says another magician is using sorcery. How did Blaine read someone's mind? How did he float? How did he make the coins come out of a coffee mug? Definetly not black magic.

Ditto. I guess people learn new things everyday ;)

If you did some more research like Magicdow suggested, maybe you would start to tink a bit differently :ph43r:
