The book you saw is probably written by Mark Wison, which is a very wonderful book.

Magic books has been in libraries for a long long time. If a person wants to know how an effect is done, they can easliy use the internet. So I don't think it'll be a problem for magicians.

Some of the books in libraries may even spark interests in layman. The books are not really easily found, you have to really search for it in libraries.

Even if Bobo's book is in libraries, not many would want to go thru that kind of writing if they don't have interest in magic.

If you think libraries will hurt magicians, I can think of a few others that'll hurt more, like television programmes or even magic shops.

And normally only if the laymen are REALLY interested , then they will go and find, and its a good resource for magicians also..
i mean back to it, the laymen, must be able to catch the art of amgci , and appreciate it for the art it truly is..

Actually Bobo's Coin Magic IS AVAILABLE in the national library.

My feelings about it is quite netural, because of the "disfusion" of attention. There are SO MANY books in the library, for someone to pick up the book accidentally is quite unlikely. If they went specifically looking for it, i suppose (hope) the person is geniunely interested.

To have magic secrets revealed publicly (e.g. the recent NKF shows) is another thing. Because it's a very "focused" and widely available media.

well, i have learnt not to be overly concerned with public magic materials..

I remember once when my friend asks me how a trick was done and we're in Borders then. He went to the hobbies section and found a few books on magic. He flipped them and decided that it's too difficult to understand.

Magic books are really easy to find in my school library. And I've come across a few good books which teaches wonderful magic tricks. But as nyx has mentioned, laypeople often find it too hard and complicated to understand. So magic books in library don't bother me at all.

urgh!
i've been searching for magic books everytime i go to the library.. i never seemm to find the.. i mean national library... can anyone tell me the sections?

Yes, i have to agree. Books in library is to spread the knowledge. So in another way, they are helping to spread magic. But they onli limit it to books, if u have noticed. even though there is DVD viewing sections liao. And those magic books are so limited. It is so hard to find them. And not every library might have wat u need.

So i think its okie. I more concern abt those direct exposure.

Usually Hobbies.
But most of the time they are on loan or people don't return them to the rightful shelves.

I support library having books!!!!!

Why? Before the era of internet and free tricks on internet, there is NOTHING. No resource.... only shop I remember is at Bras Basah, then later at Marina Square, then much later at Bugis. Even searching for IBM Singapore is impossible.... (although I know it exist.)

Even for items in magic shops, I have no money to buy! My first magic set was bought by my aunt from Gician Tan at a fair.

I even wrote to the library so I can borrow book to read on magic. Consider everyone lucky that there's this thing call the internet.

let me share a story... hahaha...

the books found in the library many years ago were by this magician, James W Baker.

Much later, I wrote my One Man Parade in the linking ring(international magic mag by IBM) and I gave credit to him and he email me!! Magical experience I must say!!!

i think you can find those magic books using the catalog... i recently borrowed a coin magic book...called magic money, or something.. that was the only book i found.

Ben - July 21, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
I usually go to smaller libraries and start browsing through the sections. It's easier to find. try tampines regional library.

even if u are a newbie, the best place to start is just to invest in your own materials, books or otherwise.

hi all.

i actually jus borrowed magic books from the library and boy did i have a hard time finding them!

luckily i got the librian to help me.. so i think it should be hard to find them by accident... i think its great that libraries has got books on such (sometimes its jus too expensive for young pple like me to afford the books..) :P

one thing about the book though... a good section of the book (actually the whole section on further tricks and illusion) was tored out.. if i knew who tore out the book...

Let me guess, the book is Mark Wilson's Complete book of magic.

Acutally, it might be a good thing the section was torn, less exposure ;)

Do you know about The Learned Pig Project? If you can prove you are a magician by passing a simple test, you have access to many free e-books of magic on the Internet.
