The one going at $50 at GL is most probably the Porper.
Here's a link. An extensive discussion was carried out concerning some aspects of the Porper and other Card Clips:

In my opinion, the Porper one is actually not a necessity but instead a luxury.
The stainless steel ones in my opinion can protect your cards well enough, but if u have the extra cash go ahead and get it, but if I were you I'd spend it on a couple of gimmicks to add to my routine. Lol. :P

just gonna get a stainless steel one from illusionist tommorrow.

The porper guard presses the cards together so it extends (or restores a little) the lifespan of your cards. Some card guards are just metal cases that do not do that but are mroe like a "metal case" for you to carry your cards around.
It depends what you want the guard for.

The Proper clips works best to keep the cards flat. Can't go wrong with that.

Lol, this was actually what I thought more than a year ago..
But now, the stainless steel one is crap.. It LOOKS like its protecting and compressing your cards, but actually its not exactly doing so. It's only compressing the part where its nearer to the spine of the card clip. Meaning to say, not the entire deck is being compressed..
If you wanna get a card clip, just spend $40 and get a Proper one, or dont even get 1 at all.. :P
