Title: Magic Schools?

Hi all.
Just had a thought and wondering... Is there any formal school in the world that teaches magic? It just seems quite hard for newbies like me to pick up training...
True the internet and books can help, but actual help from experienced magicians are just different... and magic history could be learnt from them too..
Ade.

I think there is one. I'm not sure if you'll consider it 'formal' though.
Chavez College of Magic. It's somewhere in USA.

Learn like how most of us did, though books and dvds. Most magicians are self-taught. But it'll be better if you have a mentor guiding you, good but not neccesary.

When I was learning magic, if I saw a local magician who was really good at coins or cards or whatever, I would ask him if he would take me on as a magic student. Many of the older magicians picked up extra money by teaching magic on the side. They just had to know you were a serious magician and were not just learning to expose secrets, etc. If you have a local magic club see if any of the older magicians do that. It is much easier to learn a complicated sleight if you have someone show you and then correct you while you are trying to learn it and improve it.

as magicdow has put it... most people are self-taught. i'd suggest reading (which is a personal preference) or just simply by watching videos and following along. when i started, videos were not easy to obtain.
that said, it will greatly aid your learning if you have someone who can guide you along - as the late michael lim did for me. don't be afraid to ask for help; if you come across as being a serious learner, there're many people who'll be willing to help you.
magic to me is like music (another of my loves). learn all the chords, choose those that you favour, choose those that sound right, then write your own songs.
