Title: Jc Sum's Illusion Show On 7 Aug 2005
Description: JC Sum's Illusion Show

MoonStone - August 8, 2005 02:37 AM (GMT)
Hats off to JC Sum for having the courage to put up such a big scale productions. He has brought our local magic scene. Danny Koh's performance was goody too! However, the following are my feedback:

1) "Bring the kid out of the theatre and close his eyes outside the theatre!"- His statement to the audience upon hearing the cries of the child! I thought that was extremely rude and crude! No matter what happens, you should never insult anyone in this manner! Furthermore, it is your paymasters who paid for the full price of the ticket!

2) His finale- "Thanks everyone, the lighting crew, etc... and the stage hands who did an okie job, jestering the action!- This is an ultimate insult for the stage crew! The stage crew had gone thru thick and thin for the show etc... and they had their "boss" saying that they did an "Okie" job compared to the other crew who did a fantastic job! This will definitely hurt the heart and the morale of the crew!

Brothers and Sisters, please comment on the show!

Very impressive show!! Excellent showmanship and presentation. Soundtracks were very good too but I felt it wasn't loud enough. I was sitting at the back because I had to rush out any moment to attend to the latecomers and I felt the music wasn't "surround" enough.

On Moonstone's comments, I think JC was intending to hint to the parent of the kid to bring the boy out as he was disturbing the show. It was clearly written on the ticket and show pamphlet that there shouldn't be children below 6 in the theatre. The parent ought to be chided for that.

As for the stage crew part, I agree with Moonstone that he shouldn't put down his crew, especially when they've put in so much effort to make the show a success. We all know he was putting it in a light hearted manner (which is fine), but he should have invited those who could to come onto stage and let the audience thank them as well, after curtains.

On the whole, I enjoyed the show especially the rubic's cube illusion. I thought that was a very fresh and entertaining concept. And of course, Danny was simply amazing. Though I've seen him do those same acts so many times, I was still thrilled by his flawless skills and showmanship. World class performer!!

i was sitting in front, and my ears were ringing.

anyway, the show was OK, i think the best part was the lecture. very very interesting lecture, most unlike the usual ones...

Well, from the start of the show has disppointed me a lot... I thought I was at JP Show, same music, dress and style... even the brochure...

i was sorry for the six man who went up on stage for doing nothing and making them like a fool... (I think they don't even know, why are they there for)

What is he talking about creativity?

The finale was the most disapointing one... everything was not right for that piece... (i think you know what i mean...)

Why is he doing card restoration and fork bending on a stage when he did not provide a goody bag with binoculars!!! haha...

Overall, 5/10....

helo,i tried to post something just now but had problems so i had to re-register.

Anyway, i also watch jcsum's show for the first time and thot the show was REALLY good. So, did the people sitting around me. Throughout the show, people were obviously enjoying it.

jc's style and presentation is so unique to him that I think it is silly to compare him to someone else. Come on, he entertained and amzed the audience even with common itmes like miser's dream and silk 2 egg.

i'm quite sure the 6 people were invited on stage to see the levitation up close... btw... the guy who led the applause on stage was Brian Richmond... he obviously understood why he was up on stage with the rest of the people.... being treated to see the levitation close-up ... not sure if they were stooged though.... but don't understand how anyone can think they were treated like fools....

the spikes illusion was very well done with the timer clock malfunctioning and the spikes dropping prematurely... the music chosen was also very apt

I agree his rubik's cube illusion was very unique. I want to get that colour changing rubik's cube....

i particularly liked his mentalism stuff with his handling of the book test... although one guy seemed to forget his word...

What made the night after the show was the great lecture. It was very enlightening and showed how well thought out jc's routines and presentations are.... from script to motivational and theatrics. Even, when something went wrong during the show, he handled the situation very well.

Overall, I give the show and lecture 9/10 and cant wait for his next show

Erm.. Hi. I was one of the six people invited up the stage to see the levitation up close. And the other four were my family members... Definitely not stooge...

But anyway, i did knew what was going on and am real thankful i actually got to see his levitation up close. it was sure cool!

I think he put on a good show. Dunno about the rest of the people, but the music was so loud i had to cover my ears some point in time in the performace...

Ade. :!!:

i dont think it was that bad.

many of the illusions there are his own inventions, if not innovations. almost nothing is used the way it is marketted or usually done.

i thought it was obvious enough that the 6 ppl were to serve as "eyes" for the rest of the audience, to show that it was "angle-proof" levitation.

true, some parts were inappropriate for stage, but in all stage shows of that length, there must be some interactive type magic which usually brings the magic down to parlour effects so as not to keep doing illusions, illusions and more illusions. btw, i dun particularly like illusions, and i think layppl do not either.

but on the whole, i think it was well directed and planned, and would give it a 7.5/10.

lecture i would say 8.5. i suppose everyone brought back something to learn, i myself learnt 2 main points, which were very enlightening to guide me in developing my magic.

Hey Ade - so you were there as well! :)

LOL... I'm in no position to give any grades because I know nothing but truth to be told, I really enjoyed the show, only got a tad confused at the ending but still I think we can learn lots from JC Sum's audience management and showmanship.

Danny Koh rocks!!!!
