When I reccomend this book to people asking for a source to learn from as a beginner, they tend to shy away from it for 2 reasons-
1)The Price
2)It's a Book
Burr. Lemme attempt to debunk these two mindsets, section by section.
First of all, the price of US$75 for the book is like a kick in the pants to some of the aspiring flourishers here... it equates to about S$124, PLUS the additional shipping fee's for such a heavy item as this will be a killer. So why would I reccomend this costly Free Willie of a tome to some dude just starting out on this stuff?
Because it's f*cking worth it.
Think about it. Penguin Magic used to sell (not sure if they still do) an instant download of the one-handed riffle shuffle used to sell for US$5 a buy. And people would buy it! This book has LITERALLY around TWO HUNDRED flourishes, and I'm not just talking basic concepts with meaningless variations of each other- every item in this book is "a band apart" on its own, touching on everything from picking up and placing down a deck in style to one-handed mid-air deck splits. I kid you not. And while we're touching on price, let's take a look at how much this book would cost in download format-
[Roughly 200 flourishes] X [US$5 each] X [conversion rate of US$1 = S$1.65] = S$1650
For a mere $124, this book is a STEAL.
Now, on to the next paradigm- that the fact that this item is a book, as opposed to a video, makes it inherently harder to learn from.
BULL.
SHIT.
There are 2,800 phoographs in this book, which leaves room for an average of 14 pictures per flourish, which is more than enough for something like a Flipback, per se. And in addition to the easy-to-learn-from pictures in an unquestionably unconfusing seqeunce, Jerry offers sage words of advice in his writings, something you can't pick up from an invisible man with visible hands, or from some dude eating his breakfast and watching a primetime movie while dubbing the intructional for Generation X (sorry Brian... ahahahhaa).
This book will keep you busy for a LONG time. To be able to do EVERY SINGLE FLOURISH in this book is a feat attainable so far only by Jerry himself, and that goes to show why he wrote the book in the first place. To quote a friend of mine, "I learn something new everytime I pick up this book".
If you can, that is. It weighs around 5 pounds ;)

ROFL
Damn, next item on my to get list but I don't think I'll be getting it anytime this year. Quite a big hit to the wallet.
How about the DVD(or was it CD?) vol 1 thingy? Any reviews for it?

Me too...damm expensive for me..Maybe someone trustful here can help us order in bulk, so that perhap flourishman can give us discount when order in bulk.
I read that the dvd for this flourish is just merely performance, no teaching at all.....I not so sure...maybe u need to check it out..

This is a great book and really worth the amount you have to pay for it.
However, it really takes lots of practising to get the moves down. I am still in Chapter 1 after having this book for quite a while!! Lots and lots of stuff in it. Anyway, the pictures are a frame by frame kinda thing. hence, its like watching a DVD but scrolling at super low speed to catch every movement and fingering, etc so its actually very easy to understand.
But be forewarned, no miracle will happen if u are not willing to spend the time and effort to practise tho ;)
Jerry is also kind enough to autograph the book and make it an even more collectable item. It is also made in such a way that it can be placed opened on the floor for easily learning without fear of the pages coming loose. Beats putting something 5 pounds on your legs while you practise..
Cheers! ^_^

The DVD kicks ass. It teaches basic get-readies for the deck, and some routine inspirations as well.
It's also one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. Check it out.
