trickster - September 2, 2005 02:15 PM (GMT)
when u get someone to sign a card, do u use a sort of special marker pen or what? cos i dont want them to sign it and then cant remove the mark.

Normally signed cards are marked with a permanent sharpie. Unless you really really do not want to 'dirty' ur deck or give the card away as a souvenier, place a small sticker on it instead lor, provided it does not hinder your sleights :)

I dont think signing a card does really any harm. You sign on the face, and not on the back, which means that the card is still perfectly normal.

When someone asks you, "Hey, whats that?"
"Oh, its a signature by someone whom I showed magic to, last time at blah blah blah. Why not you sign here to make this card unique and I'll show you magic?"

The signature really adds alot to ACR; IMO.

o yea... why i didnt i think of that... lol.. that would make people more interested in magic even b4 u started....
thx

Why don't you have a deck of cards specially for ACR? So whenever somebody signed on it, you can put it aside until u have a collection of signatures. You can then show people the impressive collection of signatures which tally to the number of people you've performed ACR to.

Anyway just a suggestion. I've seen many magicians do that.

fume - September 3, 2005 02:42 PM (GMT)
hmm i think giving them the card they signed will be a great idea..(i'll do that ^_^ together with e paperclip if i'm doin paperclipped)

well, unless u got ur spectator to write down her contact number on it then u might want to keep it urself.. :ph43r: hehe..

illusionist - September 3, 2005 03:28 PM (GMT)
Normal i use a sharpie... And I always give the sign card as a gift to the spec in the end lol... :D

Cardician - September 4, 2005 02:37 AM (GMT)
I think signing on the sticker and aid in cleaning up your act. If you are using a DB card.

Well... I normally use a normal marker, till i found sharpie.
Somehow i would recommend Sharpie, you can get it from illusionist. I think he should have some stocks.

*MIA* Due to Exams ~

my school sells sharpies for 60 cents each. LOL

If you're gonna do effects where cards are signed, then it should be a givem that you're not a person who's too nit-picky and cheap about his deck of cards. Be open, be carefree, KNOW that sooner or later this pack is gonna end up in the trash anyway, and that way, your magic will be open and carefree as well.

personally, i don't advocate the practice of collecting signed cards.

magic for me is about creating an experience for the spectator. when i perform i imply that this is just for them, for that moment. letting them see a pack full of signatures, in my opinion, detracts my effects from having any sense of wonder of something special, and for me, that denies them the experience of something wonderous.

the signature, besides acting as a convincer in certain effects, has the spectator put in a personal investment in your magic. laymen know that a deck of cards becomes useless even if one card is destroyed. imagine the implications of you signing one card just for them. how much more weightage will your magic have?

it is a given that spectators know i've been doing this effect for others before. their intellect tells them so; but on an emotional level, it is important for them to feel that this effect is performed for them only. this gives your magic space and a certain prestige. a deck full of signatures hints them that they're just "another" spectator.

once i give out 8 cards or so, the deck starts to get noticably thinner. i then stop doing signed card effects, as a thin deck also serves the purpose of many signatures. so when working i save the effect where i get cards signed for those special few whom i feel will appreciate them most.

yep, everytime i buy a deck i'll buy one exttra juz in case i need any dup or replacement for sign card. sometimes i buy 1 red 1 blue and i'll get extra each too. and i can still remember the solomon's "u buying for ur friend?" look. haha

Yup

Besides the emotional part, It also makes sure that the specs do not ever forget their card ;) .

If you are really worried about having to 'damage' your card, then only do signature effects when your deck is near the end of its life span.

However, as mentioned by Kev above, not flinching when the specs sign on your card somehow gives them a more professional impression about you too and every little bit does help in creating the wonderful experience ^_^

Cheers! B)

when i ask a spectator to sign a card,
I think ACR is the best trick to do...coz that will be their only 'one card'...
Since the card jumps up to the top many times, layman may thought that there are duplicate cards inside the deck.
Signing a card using ACR trick may be effective!

cheers :D

fume - September 7, 2005 08:24 AM (GMT)
for some smart a** spectator, when u do a ACR wthout them signing e card they'd thought it's a trick dck EVEN u let them examine it.. i once have a guy told me "there's double stick cards right?" and try to peel my cards.

even if they dun find and double cards or dup they'll think ur hands are fast to clear them out. if u ask 10 laymen, 9 out of 10 will accuse us of fast hands..

signing of cards are best ;)

bean - September 7, 2005 11:26 AM (GMT)
i let spectators sign my cards onli when my cards are worn out and i think acr is best done wif a signed card.....i have audience who think i have a deck full of their choosen card until i let them check everything

nicky - September 7, 2005 12:10 PM (GMT)

trickster - September 8, 2005 07:16 AM (GMT)

Black Sharpie markers (the regular kind me magicians use, not the fine point ones that suck on cards) are now available at the Evergreen store over at Suntec (2nd level- walk around and you'll find it). Score! :D

But you will NEVER get the awesome silver ones. n00bs.

Probably you can use a one way force deck?

LarryDK - September 13, 2005 01:43 AM (GMT)
Then u are wrong, a one way force deck is much more exp than a normal deck. So it is not worth it to use one way force deck to replace cards.

Kevin - September 13, 2005 03:00 AM (GMT)
Unless you need a constant supply of the same card to expend, such as the 2 of hearts for a certain effect.

You could get a Pinochle deck- they come with 2 of almost everything.

AcousticSpade - September 15, 2005 09:37 AM (GMT)
and i thought i was the only one who collected signed cards, i've just started magic and manipulation and all that and have been performing ACR for a while and now have a 30 card deck full of signed cards...and all of them different too!

bean - September 22, 2005 08:44 AM (GMT)
