Title: It - Where To Start?
Pseudo - October 20, 2004 01:11 AM (GMT)
Can someone recommand me a video or source where I can learn the many usage of IT? I'm still new to this.
I've got recommandation from people that "Who's Afraid Of IT" is a good DVD to learn IT.
I'm very new to these stuff. Hope someone can give me a hand.

Hmm... I didn't get any DVDs, but i heard that dvd is good, but i usually let my imagination run wild and see what i can do with a piece of IT.
Pseudo - October 20, 2004 01:31 AM (GMT)
Oh yes... when using the IT, do you guys purchase the magician wax or just use other sticky thing to hold the IT to the object?
Winder - October 20, 2004 01:34 AM (GMT)
I use magician wax for certain stuff, some just normal blu tac.
Pseudo - October 20, 2004 01:39 AM (GMT)
I'm very afraid of using blue tac as it is visible to the specs.
Winder - October 20, 2004 01:41 AM (GMT)
Hmm... Erm, you have to see what kind of stuff you want to float. It have to varies and depends, i use scrotch tape to tape both end of the IT and just hook up to a place. I can't do much exposure here, LOL~
Pseudo - October 20, 2004 01:50 AM (GMT)
Ha... okay
That's why I need a starter guide to IT. Learn the various ways of hooking it up.
Winder - October 20, 2004 01:52 AM (GMT)
There are quite alot of ways which i learn, but i just use then normal way of hooking it using scrotch tape. Haha~
Pseudo - October 20, 2004 01:54 AM (GMT)
Oh ya... have you freak people out when perform tricks using IT? What's their reaction? I believe their reaction will be priceless.
Cos you've broke the law of gravity.
Winder - October 20, 2004 01:57 AM (GMT)
Well, i can't say the effect out due to exposure. Cause there might be people who doesn't know that the effect is using IT. Haha ~ So i can't say anything out.
but yes, they would be freak, but i don't really do floating due to Singaporean mentality, their itchy hand would just come "Whoosh" and grab something -_-, so thats 1 of the reason why i don't do IT.
Pseudo - October 20, 2004 02:05 AM (GMT)
I believe its how you present it. If they are going to grab it, float it away.
I'm also afraid of itchy hands but I guess they will be in a shock state for sometime and think you got to start end your trick by then. Don't give them time to think.
Winder - October 20, 2004 02:14 AM (GMT)
You will never know if someone went crazy and just try to die die grab that floating thingy.
exohordon - October 20, 2004 03:03 AM (GMT)
Blue tac is good and cheap
Get the white type slightly better
ren8585 - October 20, 2004 03:07 AM (GMT)
i have flu often and i use nose sh*t instead of blue tac. :ph43r:
Winder - October 20, 2004 04:08 AM (GMT)
-__- ... Ewww.... Thats disgusting ~_~. Anyway blu tac or wax, scrotch tape will do for hooking up.
Another thing to take note is the lighting and itchy hands.
Pseudo - October 20, 2004 06:23 AM (GMT)
What kind of lighting is the best? I believe it should a place where it isn't too birght.
That means you can do such trick in the open?
JamKid - October 22, 2004 05:34 AM (GMT)
i think jon leclair's who's afraid of i.t. is a good choice.. i havent buy it yet, but from all the forums i'm been, the reviews are more than positive..

Check out one of Morphine's early threads on IT... it's essential u get a good area with appropirate shadows and lights. I have magician wax, but prefer to just use sticky tape sometimes or just a loop round the ear (kudos to morphine for that) n u are set.
I have an ITR too but haven'tt found a need for it yet... regular hook up is fine. Ammar has several DVDs out on the subject but I've heard good reviews about WHO'S AFRAID OF I.T. too B)
...If you're worried about people snatching it from you, work them with your patter first so they 'behave'. For instance, beg tthem for their assistance in keeping still so u can concentrate, etc. It'd work and you kinda get their awe, respect and admiration for defying the laws of gravity!
I never leave home without it! Have fun! :P

Anyone know of any good resources for IT techniques, usage and performance? I have learned Jon LeClaire's Animator and the Steve Fearson's Floating Cigarette Routine.
I know that it's sufficient for IT applications under many circumstances, but I'm still craving for more. Any suggestions?
Aloy - November 27, 2004 01:08 PM (GMT)
I use IT a great deal for many different applications very regularly, it's one of my most performed trick. I've even came up with something that eliminates the need for wax in a hookup which works very well for me coz i hate wax and a few hookup which I found very convenient. :)
Here's something which I wrote on the Shadows and Lighting aspect of using IT, from my experiences (many failed ones) with using IT. I think it's very useful and important to understand the points, although some of it may seem very obvious, but these are things that are often neglected when we are too eager to perform.
Read it
here.
Cheers

concerning IT how many colours are there? i once bought this trick where they had colourless ones, but most of the ones on the market are black. am i mistaken?
please delete if there's unnecessary exposure to this, thanks!
hihs - February 5, 2007 05:31 AM (GMT)
yes normal colours are black.
colourless ones are elastic if i aint wrong. there are also yellow colour which are for stage uses.

"The Art of Levitation" by Arthur Tracz isn't bad. He uses his glasses as a spot to hold his MW(hope i'm not exposing?), quite neat presentation. And he teaches several uses for IT and MW too. Not bad. You might wanna check it out?
