Firstly your top change need to be perfect.
while you are talking, make eye contact(misdirection);this is the part you change.

When ppl are looking at the eye..they cant really see what you doing with the cards....

:D

get the actual sleight down first.

the key to the top change is misdirection, rather, direction of attention.

this will only make sense to those who know what i'm referring to; but it's the use of the active and relaxed states of performance. create tension then suddenly release it. it's something one has to get a feel for. with the right grounding in basics and theory, it will come with performance experience.

all the best.

Hm.. Practise.. Start slow and slowly increase your speed.. When you spectator makes an eye contact with you when u talk...(Talk sense) Execute the change

haha.. im doing it as part of a lil performance i doing at my fren's birthday party today.. im hoping i can divert their attention by looking away.. lolx.. its kinda like monkey see monkey do.. haha.. otherwise i'll juz turn slightly to de side n do de change..

Mystifier - March 15, 2006 02:21 PM (GMT)
Dont think of misdirection hindering you, instead its there to help you make the move unknown. Personally i think this is a great move to train your misdirection skills.

<Aaron> - March 16, 2006 03:20 PM (GMT)
yep.. lot;s of misdirection is needed..be it you hands move away or your eyes....anything that makes them look away for the deck in a second is good,,.

p.s. oh why is thaddues unregistered yet he can post?! <_<

DkGamer - March 16, 2006 03:45 PM (GMT)
get the actual sleight down first, do the change when u make eye contact with them, most of the time, they wont be able to catch it.

niquetan - March 16, 2006 03:45 PM (GMT)
The kind of timing is hard to explain using text alone. I believe to learn the top change effectively, one needs to see it in action, done live.

Joe112 - March 18, 2006 08:33 AM (GMT)
Get Kard Klub. Seriously. :D

vennomz - March 19, 2006 08:34 AM (GMT)
huron is an expert in using this change u shld get some tips and advice from him. he can even pull off a top change in front of other magicians as his execution and misdirection are both excellent

groovesoul - March 22, 2006 05:12 AM (GMT)
I agree Kard Klub is good.... the top change used in the 2 card monte trick is killer. Brad explains it well enough. Just keep practicing and it will work out.

jonatha - March 23, 2006 05:29 AM (GMT)
keep your hand with the single card still... maybe get them to look at something or ask them to answer some questions and then you use your the other hand to do the move and immediately point to something with the same hand...

jonatha - March 23, 2006 06:34 PM (GMT)
hey how do you do the top change and reduce the sound produce the card?

Blackwing - March 30, 2006 11:01 AM (GMT)
With regards to the sound, do the sleight slowly. Keep practising and eventually you'll be able to do a silent ' fast' top change.

vennomz - April 1, 2006 07:37 AM (GMT)
you need not only smooth execution but also offbeat and misdirection as they work perfectly together. Too bad offbeat is not for sale=(

LarryDK - April 1, 2006 06:11 PM (GMT)
Guys, If you went down to Pam's Gathering, u will see Bob Chua's Top change. Its nice and smooth, because he don't give a damn to the change. So the point is, dont worry abt it, the more you do, the more you cant do it. :)
