Title: Self-working Card Effects

Markiebeth - September 24, 2005 04:39 AM (GMT)
How many of you people perform self-working card effects? Stuff that do not require sleights or any form of preparation or stacking or anything of the like?

I'm sure many of your layman friends have shown you a couple of magic tricks with cards which are completely self-working. Do you ever do these too? If so which and what?

Would love to hear your comments and views on this, thanks :)

Michael Ammar's Impossible card location :
IMPOSSIBLE.

modified tho. =)

Got a few, i perform when i dun feel like doing magic trick to do, and they pester me. So i will do those self working one.

It will be damn funny when u see their expression when most self working tricks work on their hands. And it is so simple that they cant figure out.

Well, simple hits hard. Tats explain.

Markiebeth - September 24, 2005 05:50 AM (GMT)
Well, I guess most of these tricks are mathematical/logical. Even the most simplistic self-working card tricks can seem so deadly if presented properly. Take for instance using a peep at the bottom card and using it as a locator, almost everyone knows it but if done properly, it becomes a miracle.

Jeopardy is a fantastic self working trick. Paul Green.

exohordon - September 24, 2005 08:28 AM (GMT)
If Jeopardy was the only effect you learnt and you threw the dvd away, you would have gotten your money's worth.

Hmm maybe looking through Above, Beside, or Below before throwing would be a better idea.

Out of this world.

Sweetest sound.

I seldom do self-working tricks... don't know much of such tricks... but sometimes i do the one found on ellusionist in the online magic trick section aka the shaman.

For those who are interested to know the trick it is the second part of it. It may not be a magic tutorial but i think u can figure it out urself ;)

self-working ambitous card?
whoa that's magic

Normally for self working card tricks I let the spectator do the routine themself after "set the card. Usually I do a couple of routine using 4 of aces.

An incredible almost self working card trick is Degrees of Freedom in John Bannon's book Dear Mr. Fantasy.

Droicut - March 24, 2006 07:07 AM (GMT)
I think Mindbender is pretty cool... ^_^

Really easy... but it's a little slow... -_-

exohordon - March 24, 2006 09:24 AM (GMT)
Larry don't forget Timely Depature from John Bannon's previous book Smoke & Mirrors.

bigbadwolf - March 24, 2006 10:57 AM (GMT)
21 card trick?

its self working too.

Michael Ammar has one really good version of it on his Easy to Master Series

i think it goes by the name of 21st Century 21 Card Trick

<Aaron> - March 26, 2006 05:03 AM (GMT)
yep the 21st century card trick is good...damn easy...haha i would usually do more sleights-requried tricks.. they are more startling..or just do some sleights that paases off like tricks, example-the pass. ^_^

Markiebeth - March 26, 2006 07:48 AM (GMT)
I personally feel that the P*** on its own cannot be a 'trick'. Sure if you do it well its a very sweet looking colour change but it would be more appropriate to incorporate the move into your routine.

My 2cents worth :)

Paradoxt - March 26, 2006 08:03 AM (GMT)
Or at least include a story to accompany the P***

Jaspas - March 26, 2006 08:42 AM (GMT)
Rising Card deck. I love it. Its self working. Not impromptu tho...

AcT - March 26, 2006 09:17 AM (GMT)
well, the most most self working card trick would be, 'the easiest card trick in the world"

haha, you just need let to spectator shuffle the deck and its done. the spectator wont believe it and wants to try again.... and it works 85% of the time. =) can repeat the trick non-stop too.

i cant see the magic...
just shuffle the deck and it's done?!?

lukold - March 28, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
I dunt quite get what your trying to say either, perhaps you could elaborate more?

AcT - March 28, 2006 10:33 AM (GMT)
haha sure.

here it goes. get the spectator to hold shuffle the deck and think of 2 cards, dont think of the suit.

example(13-king, and 9)

now take the deck back, spread the deck to the spectator, the king and 9 will be next to each other. done

can add in your own story.. because most of the time it works. using probability.

you can try this yourself when you are bored.. and trust me, it will really amaze yourself. i tried it whenever i am bored.

if this is your first time and you fail, then maybe you are unlucky.

i did this on my friends, and they were shocked. then say want to try again, and indeed successed again.

so far the maximum success for me was 23 times.

so haha, have fun with it.

ohh and if it fails, meaning got 1 card in between the 2 cards, you can tell the specator you are not concentrating well enough. make sure the deck is properly shuffled, not 3 of the same cards sticking together.

jonatha - March 28, 2006 03:51 PM (GMT)
haha i tried the first time and failed :(

but the i got it at the second try :D

yaz - March 28, 2006 05:55 PM (GMT)
If you fail, usually there will be a card or 2 in between the 2 cards. Just say you weren't concentrating hard enough...
