Title: Orchard Road Booth

Ben - October 5, 2005 04:07 PM (GMT)
I was walking along orchard road today when I came across this booth at the pathway. It attracted me from afar because i saw the word 'Magic' written on the poster.

Out of curiosity I went to take a look. I then realised the booth was set up to teach anyone magic for a fee. Magic props like cards, linking rings, ropes were displayed on the table. Judging frm the accent of the booth owner, I believed she is from China.

I also noticed the poster wrote "Money refunded if skills not learnt"

What do you guys have to say about this?

Multi-Talent - October 5, 2005 06:04 PM (GMT)
I say someone go pay her a visit and inform her of the situation, however we really can't do much if she insist staying...

If she "perform" w/o a licence then we can get the police...

Which part of orchard Road?

I have seen people holding tarot readings outside Taka and they do not have licenses. However, since they were doing it for free, i did not call in the authorities.

Hmm, female magician from China. Just curious, How does she look? :g:

If you been to Marina Square during the Chinese new year, you will probably see such booths being set up. The stall owners are middle age China women. They will demo gimmick decks and linking rings.

I believe they have no fixed locations and move around all the time.
If they are permitted to set up a booth at Marina, my guess is they have a business license to begin with.

And Andy, don't gian all the women who sell magic and are asians. Lol.

Doesnt seem right, at all.

If you think that these people should be stopped, how about the magic shops in Singapore? Aren't they doing the same thing?

exohordon - October 6, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)
Wonder why Multi-Talent or Alan is so worked up over the situation.
They are just running a business. If there weren't magic being sold, alot of us won't have resources to them.

Magic shops and booths have nothing much in difference. Lots of people walk past and visit everyday.

Most people are curious passerbys and some end up buying just to know secrets.

Not many of them would put in serious efforts to learn them well.
The amount of magic in the world is limitless but the amount of magic a person can learn is limited.

I personally don't see any stituation to inform the shopkeeper about. For once, I don't see anyone informing Patrick Wan about selling overpriced products and pirated VCD.

Maybe Alan could do the honours.

She has short hair and wore a pearl white dress. I think she is in her 20s.

Yes, I agree. But her poster indicated that money will be refunded if skills not learnt. I think many people will just just pay to know the secrets and then get their money refunded

Just a few steps away from the entrance of Orchard MRT station. Along the long stretch of booths.

You think she'll refund the money that easily?

Multi-Talent - October 6, 2005 09:08 AM (GMT)
Hey guys, I hope you don't mistaken, I'm going orchard to take a look and shopping only...I've seen very bad street magician and they don't create problems for the magic society, I don't intend to chase them away anyway, just taking a look at their presentation...

Most of these booth are teaching very simple magic like small linking rings, gimmick decks etc...things that you can almost find in 7-11, I know many of you are very concern about secrets being leak out but I don't think it's a threat to anyone...

From my observation, people in SMC are rather skillful, or should I say "above average", if any of you would set up a stall beside, I think passerby would rather watch than buy...

P.S. exohordon, since when did I worked up and say I want to stop them? and on what rights do you want me to "do the honours" to "inform" overpriced products and pirated VCD to the shopkeeper? You sound rather mistaken about me, correct me if I'm wrong...

Bernard is right regarding the fact that there are also magic shops in Singapore which teaches magic for a fee. The most important thing to take note here is whether she is pretty or not. ;)

Go look at woman la. Who cares about the magic.

Well for starters, your post seems pretty much against such booths.

I have no rights in making you do anything. This is a free country.
I just suggested you could do the honours. The keyword was "Maybe".
Afterall, doing the honours ain't a bad thing isn't it?

Ya, your probably right. I don't know you so I could be mistaken about you. Maybe your not as justice as I thought you to be.

Cheerios.
