Title: Magic With Handphones
Aloy - September 9, 2004 06:19 PM (GMT)
Handphones, almost everybody has at least one.
Anybody does any effects with handphones or the use of one?
It would be an interesting presentation i think....something different from the conventional, it's written on the paper or rubbing the ash on your arm.
Cheers

Handphone magic? The first thing that came to my mind... was... *ahem*ahem*
Huron Low. He has some of the craziest things that he can do with handphones. Yeah. He also does an awesome card transposition involving the handphone that kills laymen. I know, I've seen him perform it before. :P

eh? can you specify details please CLJ? it sounds very interesting! thanks :-)

WEll, if you read my very very long introductory post, you would have seen Huron Low's name, and in case you haven't and don't want to waste your time boring yourself out at the introductions section, Huron's one of the best in Singapore. He's the cream of the crop here, and really, he's like the Singaporean equivalent of Gregory Wilson. Yes, he's that good, no bull. :D In terms of everything, card handling, showmanship, the energy he puts out in his performances, etc, resemble Mr. Wilson himself so much. He's so dynamic and hilarious in his performances and no one I've seen can entertain a crowd like he does. :D He's from my school (ACS I) and I'm sure lots of dudes from SIngapore here have heard of him. He also created Fire in the Hole, the best torn and restored card ever (entirely different from anything out in the market), and he's gonna be producing it in a dvd soon after he completes his O levels, along with many other very very abstract t and r routines. :D His thinking is really ingenious and out of the box. The ideas he tells me and other guys are so abstract and nothing I've ever seen or heard.
Yeah, and he does a lot of magic using his handphone. He has created some cool stuff that he can do with handphones, but his transpo utilising it absolutely kills everybody. Simple yet very very effective.

Wow.... hey you're from ACS (I)? hahaha, I'm from your sister school... MGS!
wierd coincidence huh? does this huron low have a website or fanbase? I actually havent heard of him before :-P
CLJ - September 14, 2004 04:22 AM (GMT)
Haha, that's awesome. You were from MGS or you ARE in MGS? :) It's also awesome to finally see a female from Singapore delving into this art. :D Maybe you'll be the pioneer for other dudettes to join magic and equal out the gender *un*balance. :P
Anyway, I believe he'll have a webbie up sooner or later, but not just now. As soon as he completes his O levels. :D
Ning - September 14, 2004 04:38 AM (GMT)
haha... that would be nice. i'm so so soooo tired of seeing girls as the magi's asst all the time and what's with the tacky bunny girl/ retro shimmering outfits? YUCK! *chuckle* my friends and collegues tease me as a female david blaine...
wish there was some female magis i could look up to. i remember a Princess Tenko magic tv special when i was a kid, whatever happened to her? but she wasn't all that impressive :-P
i graduated already la... i'm 21 and working now ;-) but maybe if i wear the MGS uniform i can still pass off as 16? kekekeke...
keep up the good work chris!

Wah...."Chang Jiang Hou Lang Tui Qian Lang".....
Nowadays all the under 18s are incredible. :D
But it's good to see the new generation of magicians taking it really seriously and pushing the standard of magic up in singapore.
Well done guys and keep doing it!
Cheers

Im guessing there's no IT capable of holding up a fone... yet. (Maybe I'll steal into my sch's lab and kope some chemicals to work on it haha...) animated fone... think it'll be quite a shocker.

That's an idea.....
I dun think IT can hold up a phone but if you have one of those "flip open" phone, you can get it to flip open by itself?
The hookup would be quite a killer thou....

I wonder when Huron is going to come and comment in this post... :D
Huron - October 11, 2004 05:32 PM (GMT)
Haha... Chris! I hear your call!
I love vanishing handphones(Kevin remembers this very well)... and combining them with card effects. I also love spinning my handphone around and tossing it about... it's just the dropping part which doesn't really make me smile. :D
I also do moves which show both side of the phone to be the same(NOT PADDLE MOVE YOU ELEPHANT). And Um... I like doing Phone Warp. Haha, like card warp with a phone. Tons and tons of people have ripped me off ever since I started doing it and now I don't even get credit for it anymore. Worst part is that they aren't even magicians. But so what? haha... most can't do it right and so, laymen are still 'freak-outtable' with my little darling. MUAHAHAHAHAHA I think I'm under stress...

This is pretty old (okay really really old) but I'd just like to point out that this effect is off David Acer's "Open Traveller" called Mitosis. It's a solid routine and works great on stage too... plus, it's about 1/10th as simple as you think it would be.

Chris Randall has a super cool handphone effect. He twists a card and it visually turns into a handphone. He opens up the handphone and the same card is stuff inside. yeah, can be done with a signed card.
exohordon - July 31, 2005 01:00 PM (GMT)
The effect is called Phone Card on his DVD Sweet with Chris Randall.
His effects are creative but its not something I would do.
