That depends on what you really want. Lassen's coin set is one of the best. The price is on the high side but well worth the money.

Forget about Tango or even other brands. The best mass produced e[ is Johnson's. I think it cost about US$30.

I prefer Jamie Schoolcraft Dean's Set over Lassen after seeing how Jamie's set looked like.

It ain't cheap but I think its worth every single half dollar.

Hi Everyone,

Don't mind I bring life back to this thread again :D I was intending to start a new thread on S***** initially until I saw this thread back in 2005. Man this has been rather long.

Ok, basically I'm intending to get a good S**** so as to broaden my coin work. I understand there are a few makers in the market. Lassen and Jamie would of course be the best bet. Their reputation and quality is highly recommended but they are like in the Beemer price range category hehe.. I'm not that rich yet. I'm looking somewhere in the Honda range. I know for such mid-range category, there are Sasco, Roy Kuppers, Tango and Jonhson.

I believe Sasco is not that satisfying in quality, and Tango was not that good as well but heard that it has improved on its quality these couple of years. Any idea if Tango is worth buying now? How about for Roy Kuppers, is this any good or should I go with Johnson as most coin workers would use?

Lastly, I found this version of Johnson, its called the Johnson Ultimate Expanded Half S***** (link: http://www.magic.org/store/product_info.ph...oducts_id=5197) Is there any difference with the one Magicdow posted earlier? All comments are highly appreciated. Thanks

Cheers
Jerome

I don't know anything about the Ultimate [.

Sasco's are too shallow.
Tango's are too big.
Johnson's are nice.

I just ordered the Keupper's will let you know once I have it. I always tell people who wants to buy an expanded [. If you don't own a hopping halve set, get the Johnson's Hopping Halves. It comes with one expanded half dollar [ and one expanded English Penny [ and one sun and moon set. The [ can be use as your regular [.

You pay about US$55 and get much more as compared to a [ which cost US$32.

Hi Bernard,

You're really our Coin guy here. We should coin you as Bernard Roth hehe… Thanks for the advise. I think I would go for Johnson's Hopping Halves set. It’s a good value for money for the entire set. Just curious here, does the hopping halves set come with any warranty and is the ] the same quality as the regular $32USD ]? Thanks and do let us know about your Roy Kuppers ] when it arrives. I would like to know if it can compare to Johnson… ^_^

Cheers
Jerome

No warranty for the set. The [ is the same as the $32. My Keupper's [ will arrive tomorrow.

Jerome,

Go for the Johnson hopping halves if you have the cash to spare. For mass manufactured coin gaffs, you can't go wrong with Johnson. I just took out my old set to have a look and the fit is very good for a mass produced ]. In fact the Sun & Moon that comes with is practically perfect. The fit is very good and the gaff is hard to spot.
