Title: IF Magic 2005
Description: International Festival of Magic 2005

And their press release:

"The most brilliant and talented magicians in Asia and beyond will congregate in Singapore for four supernatural days of the International Festival of Magic.

They will begin with a mysterious complex ceremony of the Opening of the Circle. In between esoteric lectures and workshops on their arcane art, they will browse through Dealers' Rooms -- "shopping malls" exclusively selling magic tools and props never found on humdrum superstore shelves.

In the evenings, they will sit back to enjoy the crème de la crème of the illusion fraternity in action -- Las Vegas magicians like The Great Tomsoni and Company who has received "Stage Magician of the Year" award by Hollywood-based Magic Castle and "Superstar of Magic" award from Society of American Magicians; heartthrob of Korea Lee Eun-Gyeol who has won awards in Las Vegas, Japan and Asia; and Jonathan and Charlotte Pendragon, who counts former American President Bill Clinton and the Queen of England and the Prince of Wales among their audience"

Magicdow - October 23, 2004 04:31 PM (GMT)
I don't think they'll have group discount. The only discount they give is when you're a student/ volunteer of their group. Last year, Singapore attendents paid S$200 which I think is very cheap. The convention consists of shows and lectures.

Last year, Mcbride, Maven & Eugene Burger were here, don't think they'll be here again.

Aloy - October 24, 2004 04:27 AM (GMT)
What's the lectures like MagicDow? They cover specific topics and areas with specific objectives?
Or more like talks and seminar where they just share generally?
Are the lectures linked or individual? I dun think the registration fee include meals rite?

And how's the dealer's room? Local or international? Good stuff?

Magicdow - October 24, 2004 06:21 AM (GMT)
Each magician gave different lectures. Routines were taught and they also sold their lecture notes and effects.

Max Maven taught mental stuff and Mcbride taught card manupulations.

The dealers room were ok, a bit too small though. Daytona magic was there, all the standard stuff you can find on the net. Van Dorkummn's cups and balls was there, good but expensive cups.

No meals included, but the place is just beside a hawker centre and food is not an issue.

The next convention will be held at the same place as well, which is at Bukit Merah.

If you guys want to have a sense of what a lecture is about, Singapore IBM is having a lecture by Jay Scott Berry on the 30th Oct (Sat) at Bayview Inn at 730pm. The fee is $40 for non-members.

Huron - October 24, 2004 12:48 PM (GMT)
Haha I want to go go go go go!!!!
Hey, don't you have to be recommended by a magician, like a little referral before you can be part of the IBM? Actually, I'm only going if Huron is going.... and lecturing. Or taking part in the challenge. Set. The challenge...

Hurono

egglessapple - October 24, 2004 02:06 PM (GMT)
i also want to go.........................................................................

Magicdow - October 25, 2004 12:45 AM (GMT)
To be a member, you'll have to take a test after being an associate member for 6 months. You'll need someone to recommend membership though.

Ning - October 25, 2004 03:57 PM (GMT)
WOOHOO!!! Can't wait for IF '05... Count me in PLEASE!   This is money I don't mind spending since it's a pretty rare event... It'd be REALLY COOL too if we all go as SINGAPORE MAGIC CIRCLE B)

JamKid - October 28, 2004 01:40 AM (GMT)
i'm definately there....

ren8585 - October 28, 2004 03:45 AM (GMT)

JamKid - October 29, 2004 11:47 PM (GMT)

yujie - November 18, 2004 03:39 PM (GMT)
Jonathan and Charlotte Pendragon are coming!!!!! my god!!!! they are d best!!!!!!
Personally, i think Charlotte is d best female magician...their Metamorphosis was brilliant....u must not blink.....bill clinton's reaction was really funny, he didnt know wat hit him .......their Metamorphosis d fastest.

i went for the 2003IF......d gala night.....where was d last night. Jeff mcbride, his wife(wat's her name?), eugene burger put up a gd show. however, i was a bit disappointed......cos there quite a few breaks in betwwen,e.g. mcbride perform, then eugene burger, then mcbride.....no flow.....no card manipulations by mcbride too......except shooting d cards..... but mcbride was great with his miser dream....best ever. his mask act was also cool. i paid 18bucks for the one night show. they also conduct lectures till midnight.....magicians dun sleep....hahah. but paying 200 bucks for all d events is a bit expensive, cos u might not make it for all. just choose d ones u like.

...umm..from wat i remembered , Mc Bride did his full card manipulation act..plus his light act is awesome!!!! I spent a few days with him in vegas last year and went to his home...he has some incredible stuff besides his usuals...overall IF 2003 was a good convention...(need lots of $$$ and pple to run this kinda stuff) ...I am sure that 2005 will have a cool one with good line up of performers...Ill be there in 2005...

Just wondering..whos gonna do the competition this time?

Ciao...

opps.....i'm sorry.......i only went to the last night show.....missing out mcbride's card manipulation act...

btw...the prices seem a bit expensive. i remember i paid US$18 bucks for the gala night show. i think since IF2005 is held in york hotel, prices will be on the high end. IF2003 was held in the community center, & d prices for IF2003 are more flexible,i.e. u can choose which show u want to watch instead of buying a package to see all shows. i mean many of us will be working or studying, and could miss out some performances. anyway i can be wrong...as there might be flexible pricing after all. btw, dun go for d 3 tier, trust me.

Magicdow - December 10, 2004 12:55 AM (GMT)
Local IBM and SAM members get 15% discount. I think they might have group discount. For the price, this is a good deal. You have lectures and shows everyday. The programm starts at 1300 hrs to midnight. At least 3 lectures a day for 3 days. For those still in school, the main event is held on Fri to Sun. U.S. convention is much more expensive than what we're paying here.

Don't miss it.

yup, i fully agree with you. The organisers have a hard time in bringing this event right to our doorsteps and their efforts are greatly appreciated. Plus U.S. conventions are lot more expensive. however, i really do hope there will be a more flexible pricing package. some of the lectures & events are in the afternoon where most of us are studying or working. some of us maybe only free on saturday evening onwards, just like me :( . If i'm paying 135 bucks, but i know that most likely i will miss half of the event, then i think it will be not quite worthwhile for me.

IF 2003 was a great success. The main reason was that it was held at bukit merah community center, where there were lots of families bringing their kids to the event. It was more than just a magicial convention. Ordinary folks were watching magic performance for the first time. This time round a family of four will have to pay more than 400 bucks to see this event. i think it's more targetted towards the high end & corporate customers. but pls dun get me wrong. i would still love to go n ist tier seating is the way to go. but tat will be more than 200 bucks for me. :(

Magicdow - December 10, 2004 01:45 AM (GMT)
I'm sure they are going to sell show tickets to the public to help defray costs.

Even if you miss Fri, you will still have 2 days of magic to enjoy.

Aloy - December 10, 2004 03:41 AM (GMT)
I'm gonna ask them to see if they would give us a group discount and under what condition.

In the meantime, can i have an indication of interest here for anyone that's interested in this event and getting the ticket with us so that I can have a rough gauge of how many tickets we will be getting?

Other than me...who?

illusionist - December 10, 2004 04:04 AM (GMT)
Me Illusionist lol.. I will love to go .. :D
