i somehow feel, singaporeans are not the kind who would like to be entertained while having their meal. Most like to have a quiet meal with whoever they are with.

Unless they are with someone who's so boring that they dont mind someone comes over to brighten the situation.

it is EXTREMELY difficult to get a contract for performing regular at restaurants in Singapore.

I am normally hired for events. During the events, I perform at the cocktail reception ( strolling magic ) and I will later perform during their dinner (table hopping). Yes, most Singaporeans welcome a magician while they are dining.

There is always a time and palce to perform magic. Would you ask them to choose a card when they have a fishball in thier mouth?

OMG!!! This reminds me on a very idiotic experience, once i was doing sponge ball routine and i start of by making 1 ball into 2 on her hand.
Guess what she open her hand the sponge ball jumps up and VOILA! One of the sponge ball jumps into a pot of Curry!!!! OMG, i got to stop the routine and wash my sponge ball with soap. Worse experience....
But at least i learn a lesson. <_<

You worry about your balls, what about the curry?

of course you don't perform when they are eating and when there's food all over the table.

perform when they are waiting for their order to come, or while they are just sitting around before leaving.

on what type of magic to perform, cards can do it. May be not those "pick a card" stuff because some customers are into hygiene. 1 trick per table and if u have time, go back to them.

if you're really interested in doing restaurant magic there's a book which caught my eye, it's "The Complete Guide to Restaurant and Walk Around Performing"

The content look realli useful and i did not own the book, so i don't really know the details. It's recodmmended by Justin Miller (who's a professional magician working in restaurant) to those who wanna work in restaurants.

No harm taking a look right?

:off: she finish her curry already... Now my sponge ball is now lighter color than the other and also starts to turn "mao mao"....

By the way, on bending of fork and spoon, recently i heard from some guyz here that 'pasar malam' have good fork and spoon of the routine, but the thing is now there upgrade liao, selling more high class spoon and fork those are harder.

WHERE ARE YOU TRIANGLE FORK AND SPOON?

i think magic in restaurants may be a good idea, it is popular in the states...

i would think restaurants in hotels would be a better place (to be hired, to work in) than the average restaurant? perhaps cos their customers pay more, so they can afford such luxuries...

ZzaG - November 9, 2005 11:55 AM (GMT)
You guys.... he's asking us which restaurants would be good to perform in...

None of you answered him so you all are :off:

poor weiming... i hope you'll get your answer soon enough.

in order to be the first to be on-topic, how about performing at Raffles Hotel? Nice place to be at, i think.
