Title: Spooked
Description: by Lawrence Khong

Aloy - September 9, 2004 06:27 PM (GMT)
Sometime last month (Aug), Lawrence Khong together with FCBC put up a, from my understanding, mentalist magic show. I had wanted very much to catch it but the tickets were sold out.

Anybody went for it? Was it good?

Cheers

It was quiet good. All together 6 general effects were shown, displaying the different levels of dark magic. So they say. (not extremely sure of the order)

Effect One: (Weird Name)
To tell who does 5 different itens belong to. Each item is put into a different black bag and these are then put into a bigger bag. Mixed in a laundry-style and then each item is chosen by a spectator. Precilia then psychicly tells what item belongs to who.

Effect Two: Floating Table
Floating table. Magician holds cloth and table floats. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Effect Three: Floating Girl.
Girl is placed on a board supported by chairs, wrapped in a carpet and then floated. Sadly, something became visible due to the shortage of smoke.

Effect Four: Breaking Glass with J00's mind.
A wine glass is broke on a table. Unlike david blaine style, its done with the glass upside down. And then coke bottles are brought out and broken after putting a glass piece in it and shaking.

Effect Five: Comedy Head Chopper.
Just as the name suggests.

Effect Six: Magician goes mad and slaughters "audience members" and his daughter.
This is done with like 4 ppl and in different ways each time.

After all these, he starts to preach. A lot. Most importantly he said:These were not magic. They were just sleight of hand, deceptions, illusions...

On the whole it was entertaining... Yup. But could have been better done cos sometimes the secrets showed up on the big screen.

To be in a general side, I say normally local show is just Okay. I also agree but do not no why some of the secret they use can be seen! Especially the wire and the props they use. Lastly the timing interm of exchanging and dissapearance. However, I still proud that we can put up the show.

Lawrence had been putting alot of effort in his Magic of Love show, and I believe most of his time went to perfecting it because he's taking the show around the world.

I'll cut him some slack on the spook show, but I didn't watch it, so I can't really comment fairly.

On the whole, I'd say he had improved immensly since the time he just got back to magic. Perhaps the next few spook shows will be improved. Lets wait for the next halloween. B)

I gotta agree with AlexWong.. I think Lawrence and Pris' main focus was not the magic, but rather the message behind it.. Sorry to divert from the original topic, but i just had to say this.. ^_^ so just let them be..

You gotta respect the guy; he's the only illusionist I know who can perform a triple metamorphosis act; pastor-turned-magician-turned-pastor ^_^

Well...i did manage to catch the show...however did not expect the preaching part...

Anyway...the last part was also magic...Its call gospel magic...saw people walking away when he started preaching...somehow feel sad for him...

Anyway...when i watch it at that time...i was not quite into magic yet...so did not know wat to look out for etc...so i was like watching the show like everyone...so i must admit it is good...

Magicians may not find it good...cos now looking back it was nothing impressive

Anyway...Buaya...u missed out 1...Its the razor blade illusions

I would say its more of a outreach for his church than a magic performance

LOL.. glad to hear lots of preaching was going on.. After all, evangelic event.. If more magic was shown, it would have defeated the purpose. ;)

The killing part.. kinda.. weird.. can you elaborate please? thanks ;)
