Title: Busker @ Shaw House, Lido
brokenvow - November 16, 2005 05:32 PM (GMT)
Has anyone seen this guy? I usually see him in the weekends, performing in the corner of the basement of Shaw House (where Lido Cinema is), where the underpass from Tangs connects to the escalators to the street level.
Pretty interesting...but many times I see that the audience dont get the tricks.

That guy's name is Ong, I've seen him many time cos I work at Lido (same place as him), if any of you happen to see him there, observe what he do and try to tell him what is wrong...(he did dancing cane to gain attention and many of the audience can see the secret!)
Also the way he ask for money is like begging, other buskers and magicians had complain to me that his "begging for money" is disgracing buskers and magician, so if you see him perform, keep your cool and guide him after he finish.
I know some of you will be telling me to inform him about these issues, not that I haven't try, he is not listen...if any of you intend to teach him some effects, do at your own risk, i taught him some in the past and in the end he used my presentation (but not anymore)!

Saw him alot of time la, ya, he always do his dancing cane.
But there is always a group of buskers infront or beside him that is more attractive. Hmm, the busker is coloring himself and posting as a statue, those kind. People feel those more interesting as they express their act through their body. And then it makes the magician looks so lonely when there is a big crowd just beside him and no one is looking at him.
Just dun know y.
I think busking need a lot of guts and energy to express your actions loud. Haven seen Alan (Multi-talent) Hopefully i din remember your name wrong, perform before. But i did saw a "clown" perform appearing cards before, very good and i strongly feel that it is his way of expressing yourself that makes the audience look at you. Daring!

I remember seeing Alan (Multi-Talent) busking at Tampines Interchange area a few months back. He was with an old man if my memory serves me correctly. Didn't really catch what they were doing though, was rushing for time that day.

Finally a post on him.
I've seen him many times, in fact I think he goes down even on weekdays. Applaud him for his bravery to busk and perform in the middle of town, though he's always at the corner. However the worst part is, the audience don't get amazed or impressed, and he gives away the tricks. I happen to be watching him among the crowd that day. He was performing a jumbo card trick. This foreigner next to me said "Dude, I can see the card behind!" and he left straight after. Alright let's just say he was off-form that day and give him a break. But I've watched a few times and seen him struggling as well. Also, I can't stand the way he makes people 'pay' for his performance. Hard work yes. Courage yes. Magician yes. But that's not the way you ask for cash. After ONE trick, he would take his hat and beg for money from the crowd, often accompanied by his favourite phrase, "Anything for me?". And the crowd would soon disperse. I find him rather poor thing at times. Yes someone please go up to him and.. Hmm advise him? I don't know whether to pity him or understand his situation. Perhaps I'm being mean. But, just my 2 cents worth. And the guy who busks next to him (the performer who paints himself and acts as a statue, whatever you call it) definitely outshines him. I wish him all the best anyway if he happens to be in this forum. -_-

He usually stands next to the human statue. At the corner.

Ya, i remember this guy, when i just started magic for like less than a month, i saw him at shaw so i decide to approach him, he did a very very not clean D,lift and he have to flip the card back facing th whole deck away from the audience, worse still, a guy beside me said", i saw him .........." OMG, and what the magician does next was even more scary, he took out his top hat and literally beg for Money.... So i got to give him $1... Even the kids are not impress with his magic as there is almost no patter, he just kept quiet....
I even meet the other guy at Tampines, he was doing IT. his skill is good but the lighting is not on his side.. so got expose by others..
Well, i respect them for their courage, as i understand the difficulty of performing to strangers expecting street magic..
