I didn't know performing in the street is illegal. if you don't do it for money I don't see anything wrong.

Isn't this a new thread? Please direct me to the post.
I don't think performing in the streets is illegal, especially around Orchard, since there are so many buskers anyway.

The buskers can perform and get paid because of their license. There is however no rule that says that performing street magic is against the law. If that's the case I guess many people would be jailed up already ;)

I believe it's only against the law if you busk without a license. Ie. you juggle at some spot with a cup for tips and stuff. I really don't think street magic is illegal. Anyway in an event that a policeman comes along, show him something.

Street Magic is not illegal.. If you are doing it for money you need to apply for a licence or else its illegal.... :D

It is not illegal to perform on the street. It is illegal to ask for tips while performing if you don't have a license. Anyways, its even legal to set up a speaker set, and perform for free. So long as the speaker is under 60dbs I think.

Yeah. I've just checked the busking scheme by NAC. You'll need a letter of endorsement to be exempted from licensing under the Public Entertainment and Meetings Act, although it didn't said it's compulsory.
No louder than 70dbBA.

Street magic will become illegal when magicians starts to run around throwing card and burning flash paper on people face.... and also aiming your steel appearing cane right in front of their face.
Other than that, i suppose it is legal... But never wear a 'satanic-like' t-shirt when doing those tricks.. :ph43r:

oh arite then guys, thanks once again...

bringing this up, i have another question to ask.
When performing in the public for your friends, do crowds tend to gather? i've always performed in private but my next one will be in some cafe with 2 target specs. There'll be other ppl in the cafe as well though.
Not feeling comfy, yet. commentS?
Ben - December 2, 2005 07:47 PM (GMT)
I don't think crowds will gather. People will probably watch you from afar since you're in a cafe. But don't let it bother you. Just enjoy entertaining your target specs.
TayYH89 - December 3, 2005 02:02 PM (GMT)
I don't think they will surround you, unless you make a big fuss about it. Shouldn't be a problem. The'll at most look at you from their tables.
Since we are speaking of the busking thingy, I was just wondering if anybody have considered busking to earn some $, especially it's holidays now.
Mujunnie - December 4, 2005 02:00 PM (GMT)
Hm... busking for money seems to be a good idea, but if I could do some neat flourishes and magic I would definitely prefer to perform for charity. :D
