Putfile Says Goodbye To Singapore

At dawn on December 2nd 2005, Singapore hanged a citizen of Australia, despite a plea for clemency from the United Nations. Whilst Putfile is not a human rights campaigning organization, we believe that if a country must have the death penalty, there is no need for it be barbaric. It is enough of a punishment, and a deterrent, to take someone's life in a painless manner, without having to be barbaric about it. Putfile prefers to not continue to provide our free uploading service to a country that executes prisoners by hanging, a method of execution which can take up to six minutes to painfully execute the victim.

For this reason, we are at this time terminating all service to users from Singapore. We shall be happy to restore service following any positive move from the government of Singapore towards abolition of hanging as an execution method.

Goodbye Singapore,

Putfile.

damn, this kinda sucks. Well, yeah, I can't stand hanging either. Caning is just as bad.

brokenvow - December 3, 2005 03:01 AM (GMT)
What the hell's wrong with putfile, frickin losers.

Its not like we only had hanging implemented this year. silly shite.

Moondust - December 3, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
Well actually, Putfile's quite misinformed. Hanging in Singapore isn't exactly death by strangulation, which takes "6 minutes" to occur. That is reminiscent of "lynching."

The death sentence in Singapore is executed (no pun intended) by placing the inmate on a trapdoor with plenty of slack in the rope. The hangman then pulls a lever which snaps open the trapdoor, and gravity causes death by snapping the neck. Death is almost instantaneous.

So wtf do they call "humane" death penalties other than death by lethal injection? Is facing a firing squad humane and painless? Is electrocution painless? Is gassing painless?

well....
Who can we blame?

read this week's forums.. everyday... got some aussies write in to say its alright, some say its not... very interesting debate...

TayYH89 - December 3, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
Seriously, I don't think there is any humane way of executing a person through capital punishment.

And Moondust, how did you know so much?

Jeremy - December 3, 2005 03:07 PM (GMT)
lol how don't you know so 'much'?

Dragon - December 3, 2005 03:41 PM (GMT)
I think this is lame. Now we all can't watch magic videos in peace. Anyway Putfile is so freaking lame can. They are stopping Singaporeans because of hanging as a method of execution when the problem now is the Singapore's bureaucracy in handling the situation. What's their problem. Argh. Moondust is right, it involves the breaking of the neck not suffocating the person. It's not a barbaric act after all. If you call this barbaric, what do you call drug trafficking? Period.

D.
