Title: Try It!!!
Description: (IF you DARE)
Lefty - December 6, 2005 02:40 AM (GMT)
Recently i came out with a form of mind reading kind of cool (self-praise) so just want to share with everyone to see if it works. normally to non-magician and hopefully not hecklers... (but i do try on hecklers)
Firstly, it is on "think of a card" kind of mind-reading..
Ok lets start, ask your audience to "think of a card, any number from the 52 card", from survey, most, i mean not all, individual will follow a certain pattern in choosing a card.
Normally, if the PERSON TRY This FOR THE 1ST TIME (NON_Magician), This will happen.
Female ----> Red card
Male -----> Black card
Of course there is time where it happens the other way, its all about "feel", sometimes i go about saying Red for male and vice versa.
be confident, say," it is a red/black card" if it hit on the spot, they already got a shock.
Suit... Suit is something that i have been trying figure out the pattern for quite some time, this is what i conclude
Black ---> 95% Spade
Red ----> quite difficult, it is really a 50/50 ( But mostly i would go for diamond of dont know what reason)
Why spade? because firstly, a hand full of non-magician cant ever figure out clubs is called 'clubs' some even call it flower, and the first black suit a person normally think of is a spade, of some reason, maybe spade is commonly seen everywhere..
Red suit---> normally it is the killer part, always determine that i fail or pass the mind read. for some reason, i always choose diamond, maybe 'heart' in design could mean love and etc, not many would relate to cards, but diamond and red color, these two combi, would easily let commoner relate to poker cards.
The number---> normally the outcome would be 7,8 or 9.
and again i tried this for many many times and this is what i normally get.
Because of the question ,"THINK OF A CARD, ANY OF THE CARD OR NUMBER IN THE 52 CARDS"
Because in the back of the mind they heard the word NUMBER, they would always relate to a number cards compare to the picture cards.
And from past records, normally the number would be big. always between 7 to 9.
Ends with, "if i would be daring enough, you must be thinking of the ***"
THE END..... Remember to tell them every stage of your prediction, so if even you get the number wrongly, they would still think that you are very good, and just say that maybe the environment is not condusive enough.
The chances get higher if you know how to use the force elimination method which i cannot reveal... but if you use that, it will not be that fun.. :D
Hope this will help and do comment about it, but it is just an experiment, peace.... :D

I like the ideas of why people choose the different suits, colour and numbers.
I'm sure to try it, tomorrow, perhaps.

Updates ---> forget it tell you all that, if the person you are mind reading to, does not handle with cards and not a magicians, dont gamble. they will choose Hearts or spade only... Diamond and clubs will never come across their mind in a first instinct. :D

i don't know... this mind reading is kinda weak... why use a trick which u know might fail most/half of the time? but then again, maybe i'm wrong..
i'll stick with forces...

Its kinda BIG gamble. Not that i am not a risk maker, but thats too big of a risk.
I am sure there ur better methods out there to acomplish mind reading.

Rather than go straight into 'guessing' the person's card, I would suggest playing with your words and observing his body language to your statements. Works that way better for me, unless of course the spectator has a poker face :(

It's proven that non-gambler laymen will not name clubs.

i try it out once.. haha it succeeded 33%. well i guess is hard to determine if that particular person is a non-gambler laymen a not....
so i try it on this guy who i suppose is a non-gambler laymen... yup the card was a black one, but then follow by a club and the no. card is a 4... hmmm...??? but well i only tried it once so maybe that guy is not a non-gambler....

Lefty,
nice to see you doing the research for this. This is hard to get down man.
1 suggestion, when doing the guessing of the card part, don't make such a big deal outta it. Just guess and if you are right, milk it for all its worth. If you're wrong, just continue and ask for his thought of card and proceed with a brainwave or invisible as an out.

haha, cool thank you for your suggestion, nice way to end it clean.. :D

Why dun you just learn cold readings...hahahha
just my thought :off:

whee... look at derren brown for such stuff! Such mind reading is actually pretty dangerous and unreliable in that sense, but no harm trying... you can find ways to manipulate your words so that their mind is affected (again, Derren Brown).
And I have actually tried it before. Worked quite well sometimes, but the chances are not very high.
Such things take experience and practise and research.
Thanks to Lefty for these information.

A little thing to add that you might find useful is to ask the spectator to 'picture' a card.
It would go like this 'I want you to picture a card in your mind now' because of the word picture they will be more obligated to think of a court card rather than a number.
If all goes well your chances of hitting the right card is narrowed down because there are only three types of court cards Jacks, Queens and Kings as compared to numbers which are from Ace all the way to Ten.
This little technique is called embedded command if my memory doesnt fail me.
Just a little example of this principle.
'Do not think of a RED ROSE'
Whats the first thing that came to your mind? I am sure its a red rose, even though the literal command is asking you not to think of one, just because red rose is in the command you will think of it.
And partly because I bolded Red Rose and coloured it red, har har. :lol: But Jokes aside this really works most of the time. B)
This is one of the little techniques modern day mentalists use, the likes of Derren Brown and Luke Jermay.

maybe should read a bit more about NLP before trying..
the mind can be manipulated easily with external influences.

you might wanna use this as a warm up... ya...
