Lefty - December 11, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
Regarding the topic on "How far will you go to perform harder tricks" Someone mention Kosby's Raise Rise. I bought the DVD around 3 weeks ago. and............ It is like so difficult to do it right not talking about mastering it....
Calling for all SMC members and forumite, If you knows Kosby's Raise Rise and always does it.
Please give some pointers and tips to me, i just find it so difficult to do.
Anyway, the effect is very very cool. B)

That person happens to be...
*drum rolls and some double pedals*
MEH!
Well, I'm currently learning that one as well just for fun. I thought I was gonna incorporate that into my ACR routine... but not anymore. Not because it's hard, but I'm staying away with the idea of "OK look at the deck of cards kids, your selection can even jump to the top slowly". Raise Rise impresses magicians more than laymen, I guess.
However, as for your topic, a tip is to really look at the INITIAL position of Ray's fingers before he does the Ambitious Riser move (which means right when he already has a card out****** and 2 cards in******). Pause that bit, and see his hands and fingers, and do the same thing. Maintain this position with every other fingers EXCEPT your p****... And you don't necessarily have to get the in****** card out to the right too much (before it's pushed over to the frontside of the deck), just a little will do because you'll then have to sort of square that card with the deck by using your middle finger. I hope I'm not revealing anything here. I'm trying my best to speak in Urdu.
Anyways, it's a bitch move to pull off, especially doing this while moving your wrist upside down (which is my current problem). I read even Richard Kauffman hasn't gotten this down after a year. So yeah...
I haven't seen anyone in real life does this as good as Kosby. Any taker for that spot?
Huron? :D

Raise Rise is very visual! It takes time to master.. Ray does teaches you the move and so on in detail. The only problem is you have to replay it over & over again because he just runs through the move & thats it. Catching it or not its another matter.
Its not easy at all, just spent more time practicing. Its the only key i believe to succeed! I personally think no effect is impossible! Ray's just like you.. an ordinary human.

if you get it, you get it... sometimes, the handling is also different for everyone i guess. probably his hand are big and your's not. i does mine with different grip and all.

ya.Personally,i own this dvd too.But i find all the tricks inside this dvd are all difficult.I have seen the raise rise is one of the best and difficult ACR routine. It is very visual but hard to master. So you need to be a serious worker in order to master it perfectly.
Mod's note: Please leave a space after every punctuations, makes reading easier for everyone. Thanks.

The main problem is that my pinky is wayyy too weak, i cant really move it forward for that trick, it is kind of difficult and very unnatural. So any tips on how to handle is pinky problem. :) |
Do some finger exercises :D
No seriously it will help to build up your muscles at your fingers.
Play the Piano or something,
Guitar is good too.

There are easier variations of the raise rise. I use an easier version. And, believe or not, I can even do it with 3 different cards at once. Meaning, there are 3 selections sticking out of the pack, and all of them rise to the middle, then to the top at the same time.
Ask me about it at a meeting.

even if you perfect it, would you perform is when someone asks you to show them a trick?
Blackwing - December 13, 2005 10:36 AM (GMT)
Yeah, why not? when people ask me to show them a trick, i'd normally do an ambitious routine and this 'rise' variation is part of it. It can be done with a single selection or it can be done with more.
Lefty - December 15, 2005 01:32 AM (GMT)
As for now, my ACR starts with the 'malo' and later i use the raise rise last step to do the appearing to the top. :D hopefully 1 day i could do a complete raise rise.

I have the DVD too. I find now its not really the time for me to invest too
much time for it as it does not impress normal people as much, cause they
do not understand the difficult sleights behind it. There are much more
sleights for me to learn first before I come back to this move. YES, long
fingers like Ray does help.

It's a knucklebusting move that I can do but not perfectly every time so I won't use it in performance. What I do use is the Ambitious Card Rise move as a non gaffed rising card effect when I want to reveal a card in a unique way.
vennomz - April 8, 2006 04:28 AM (GMT)
huron uses that move alot and does it well. u might wana ask him
