Description: Discussion

Hi all,

I would like to seek more advice here on copyright of magic tricks.

Questions for consideration

Is it perfectly legal to manufacture magic tricks? For example, if you manufacture your own gimmick cards to sell. Or perhaps you manufacture your own Hover Card to sell.

Maybe i will categorize as follows

1) Selling of your own routines with known sleights ( for example, Hermann's Pass )

2) Selling of gimmicks manufactured by yourself ( for example, Hover Card or Helicard)

Thank you all for shining light.

Regards,

Give credit when its due

Do not rip off the hard work and creative juices of magicians.

wow, i haven't posted in a long time.

ok, here's the question : say, a magician has a show on tv and everything and he performs a marketed effect (card-toon, fadeout ... blah blah blah) on national tv. would that be right to do? i mean, obviously he has purchased the effects, so he knows what to do.

but he will be getting the acclaim for doing the magic, not the creator of the effect. plus, putting down the creator's name in the credits of the show doesnt count for much. and his career would be ruined if a interviewer came along and asked: "how do u do all this??", and he says:"oh i went to that magic shop in kovan..."

i notice that blaine's stuff on tv dosen't exactly have a creator. meaning: who the hell came up with the 2-card monte?? how much research would that be worth lol.

guanxun. ^_^

:::::on reading that again, it feels a little off-topic. sorry if it is...

thats ok. when u purchase the marketted effect, u purchase the performance rights as well.

well what i think is that legally though you may have the purchased rights to perform it...you should not do this!
M=magician, S=ass(spectator la..) ^_^
S-wow! how did you do that?
M-its magic..
S-cool did you invent it?
M-err...of course i did..you see it was a really hot day(Magician proceed to tell a tell tale on how he fell asleep and dreamt up an effect using simple sleights blah blah blah...and decided to call it say...the dream of aces...

this is unethical of the magician... well just me o two cents!!
