n3wbi3 - December 13, 2005 12:19 PM (GMT)
hi i m new to magic.. so i would like to noe how do u do a proper fanning of cards tat is nice.. thanz fer any suggestion..
illusionist - December 13, 2005 12:51 PM (GMT)
First technique must be right and a new deck can fan better...
TayYH89 - December 13, 2005 02:17 PM (GMT)
Fanning powder helps. It essentially makes fans so easy it almost requires no skill to fan.
Jeremy - December 13, 2005 02:48 PM (GMT)
if fanning powder is essentially what you require to fan, you almost have no skill
i have friends who used my powdered decks who can't fan for nuts, even after i teach them how2. in that case, giving a new comer fanning powder, just makes him reliant on it.
like what mac said, get the technique right first, for that to happen, get a mentor.

Yeah some people cannot fan with powder nicely and powder makes you lazy and dependent on it. Should always use powder at bare minimal. Should be more of a better finish on the cards rather than a pack of sugared cookies. Eew. Back to the topic, start practising from some videos, or yup get a mentor/friend to get some help.

I must be one of those who are overreliant on fanning powder~!
However, do the cards become less-fan-able as you fan more and more with them? Will there be a time when the cards become barely fan-able so that you would require fanning powder to revive it back to fan-able state? Other than using a new deck or a powdered deck, I can't do fans. :(

Yeah. Get the techniques down first before fanning powder. fanning powder doesn't teach you how to fan. Just makes the fan more even... Learn from some of the magicians/flourishers on how to fan. Anyway, there are websites out there that roughly teaches fanning. Yeah. Good luck.

yep as the others have said techinque comes first thought a new deck should be first.. haha anyway just use even pressure..don't do it fast..relax..if you still can't fan..i suggest you use the two hand spread or ribbon spread..

I have forgotten which website i read this from.
it says" producing a fan is easy, but perfecting it is difficult"
get a new deck first.
use the deck only for fanning and not for cut or display
that should allow you to use the deck longer before you would need to buy fanning powder.
jonatha - March 26, 2006 08:17 PM (GMT)
hi i can fan but i have problem having a nice and even fan... any tips?
illusionist - March 26, 2006 11:09 PM (GMT)
Tips Get the techinque right , Practice , practice and more practice .. :D
xuanweng - March 27, 2006 01:58 AM (GMT)
Yeah. More practice. Even if you got the techinque right, you still need practice to make it bigger and more perfect. i still have this problem of not fanning big enough. Any tips?

You have already answered your own question.
Yeah. More practice. Even if you got the techinque right, you still need practice to make it bigger and more perfect.
jonatha - March 27, 2006 01:13 PM (GMT)
but is there any method to hold or how much preassure to apply to get a even fan?
Flyer - March 28, 2006 02:08 PM (GMT)
in short, there are no short cut in fanning
the only way out is practice
anyway, there are many type of fan
that should keep you busy long enough
bigbadwolf - March 28, 2006 04:02 PM (GMT)
just keep fanning, after that you will be able to gauge how much pressure, how fast...its a motor skill.
Once u get it, you will get it...
lol am i lame? :P
jonatha - March 29, 2006 07:10 PM (GMT)

Exactly. But the thing about fanning is the skill involved. For example, if you can make a perfect fan out of any decent deck, people will know how good you are.
jonatha - March 31, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
but after using wax deck, i get the feel how to fan better... and afteri can fan better ith a normal deck... so using wax deck deed help me fan better ;)
phsycofreak - April 1, 2006 12:24 AM (GMT)
guys i am also practising fan although some webbies teach u how to fan.
it isn't as u learning it on your own i learnt the fan on my own but not very good
Mod's note: Your keyboard doesn't have any punctuantion keys? 10% warning.
jonatha - April 2, 2006 11:06 AM (GMT)
is there any source where you can learn the different type of fan?
TayYH89 - April 3, 2006 03:08 AM (GMT)
Yeah, try to buy learning materials, e.g. EoPCF.
Ace - April 9, 2006 12:44 PM (GMT)
The fanning section on Xtreme Beginner by Devo is real good! Covers almost all the tips for fanning....
And yes PRACTICE!!! No short cuts.... B)
Flyer - April 26, 2006 04:26 AM (GMT)
if you have sweaty palm, you might want to have a hand towel beside when you are practicing fanning. you would want your hand to be a bit moist, not sweaty, not oily.
extremer - May 18, 2006 06:35 PM (GMT)
Fanning Powder works well but it will make ur cards a bit sticky feeling. So practice w/o it. Once you get hold of it, the fanning powder make it look easier to fan. There are video available on Fanning techniques, how to have a good start position and to spread evenly. Learn, practice often and you will get it eventually

May I suggest buying XB and learning from the master in there?
