Ok... simple questions first
1) wat is parlour magic?
2) wat kinda props it uses? cards or mainly gimmicks?
3) audience size and interaction?

1) I would say that parlour magic is like a close-up form of stage, but in an intimate setting. It's like an experience where the magi invites the audience into a world of wonder... at least, that's what most people do. Solid routines that lead into each other are ESSENTIAL here. Somethig Huron isn't familiar with, I guess :P
If you need another definition of parlour magic, watch any L&L video... you'll get what I mean then.
2) Gimmicks? Most people do card tricks, but I would adivise doing all card tricks. If you ARE going to do something with the pasteboards, make sure it's something they're GUARANTEED to have never seen before. Try a topological card trick, like Fire in the Hole or something. Borrowing stuff is always a plus, since it adds a bit of emotional involvment and such. But if you have to use a gimmick to intensify your effects and enhance the experience, go for it. Just don't get caught. :D
3) A decent audience is about 40-60. I meant people, not years old. If you have good acoustics and a mike, AND a screen... well, it's just not parlour magic anymore. The audience is usually a little big, but not so big that they feel left out. Try to involove as many of them in the experience.
Aight. Any more takers?
