Title: Market Rate (2005 Dec)
Description: May we share our views?

heartsofclubs - December 17, 2005 01:10 PM (GMT)
Hi there..

I am glad to be here again.

So as to ensure that we do not spoil the market in any event, would it be good if full timers or even part timers share the market rate with us?

Is it a good idea?

If so, i hope you could post the general cost of your performance and include how you charge.

eg: Christmas performance ($350)
Time: 1/2 hour
Comments: Cost is higher than on normal days dur to peak season.

or

eg: Christmas performance ($400)
Time: 40mins
Comments: Charged according to the amount of effects done.

Yeah. I hope to hear from you guys soon.

Have a great day
Chris

Hi heartsofclubs,

This is a very sensitive topic, I suggest you find out who are the professionals in this forum and PM/meet up them to discuss instead, anyway here's some tips:

*You can up your rates a bit more than the market rate if you have something different.

*If you're just starting out, it might be good to lower a bit than the market rate and explain to the client why you're charging low, but please do not charge too low. Set back to market rates when you know you're good.

*How much you charge depends on how much you think your standards or shows are worth.

*If you charge $---, make sure you do a show worth $+++.

*Do not anyhow charge, ensure your own standard before starting out and keep your rates constant.

*Some professional charge higher because they have the reputation and experience, do not compare yourself with them, your's will come in time.

*Special Occassion: Some performers will keep their rates constant, some will up their price, if possible never/hardly lower.

*It'll be quite impossible to charge full rates for charity, however you can at least charge a minimun (to cover cost), don't always give free, you need to eat as well.

I hope the above will help you, if you need further information, contact some professional or find out from different performers their rates. It'll be good to charge average if you intend to start out as well.

I think you can start charging a fair rate once you are able to do a decent show. So, how much is the fair rate? I don't know, but defintely not $49.95 as what some are charging.

Remember, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Payment is an extremely sensitive topic. Here's some advice.

Charge how much you think you're worth.
