Title: Custom Cards Just For Sg Magicians And Flourishers
llamalamer - December 21, 2005 07:01 PM (GMT)
Hi people!
It's been a long time since I posted here, but then I decided to put this up as I need everyone who is interested to chip in ideas.
I am planning to print custom-designed cards only for singaporean card workers. Be it magicians or flourishes, I am asking for deisgn ideas for a custom back design as well as the jokers and ace of spades. I'll try to push for a good stock (So please suggest some.) but then USPCC said they print most customs in Bike stock (I hope not for us...)
Some restrictions though, no copyrighted images allowed (i.e. Jerry's Nugget oil well designs etc.). Come up with your own designs and submit it to me at llamalamer@gmail.com. [Dear mods, please allow this address to be posted here for a while as I need to have a receiving end for the images that'll be sent to me...] Designs must be done in digital format using any Digital Imaging software. File formats like *.gif, *.jpeg, *.jpg and *.bmp will be accepted. Closing date is 31/1/2006.
After the designs have been received, I'll update this post with a blog address for you guys to view and to vote for you favorite designs.
Right after that is order taking time. I'll present the quotation I get from USPCC up on the blog mentioned and we'll need to raise money for the minimum of 10,000 decks. Sounds a lot, but just get in bulk! I do not think that we'll print these cards ever again after the first run.
I certainly understand that money will be an issue to everyone else, so this is a year long project for 2006. One year to raise the money should be enough. Price per deck will be US$1.10 to US$1.50 EXCLUDING shipping.
Comments, enquires or anything about this post, please put it here. I will not entertain any enquiries that are sent to my gmail. It is only for the designs.

Considering the Merlion?
Cuz it makes it look "sg"
Daraketh - December 21, 2005 11:01 PM (GMT)
hmm but the merlion makes it look like those cheap pack of cards u get on airplanes.. lol
iNvIsIbLe - December 22, 2005 12:47 AM (GMT)
Wow, sounds cool huh. Looks like we got our own design cards in Singapore!! Maybe can implement a design about a Lion holding a Sg flag. Haha..just suggesting. :D
TayYH89 - December 22, 2005 02:25 AM (GMT)
The back design will need to be symmetrical so that it does not need to be kept in the correct orientation after every trick. (That's kind of hard.)
Anyway, is this a SMC card or Sg card?
USD 1.10-1.50? Rather affordable.
sand king - December 22, 2005 02:28 AM (GMT)
nice, im intrested but i suck at art...
my idea is that SMC's logo on the back of the cards
then the design is 3 knights holding the swords up together with the ace of spades in the middle...
haha hope this helps
dark_law - December 22, 2005 03:29 AM (GMT)
i hope that it could be a subtle one way back design
wEn - December 22, 2005 06:29 AM (GMT)
wow! our own customised deck? cool... the really limited edition... haha.. too bad im not an artist if not really want to put my hands on the designing part...
whaleson - December 22, 2005 08:16 AM (GMT)
haha, cool idea.
just that the idea of merlion turns me off??
aha looks like tourism souvenir
wEn - December 22, 2005 09:04 AM (GMT)
ermmm... just a suggestion guys, why not spice things up a bit? maybe you can make it into a design competition kind of thing? that might get better response and better design as well??
Daraketh - December 22, 2005 10:16 AM (GMT)
i was thinking.. like make the word SMC on it.. with the logo..
but the smc word is drawn in a way that when u flip it upside dwn n read, it still says smc. forgot what that kind of word is called...
Jeremy - December 22, 2005 01:48 PM (GMT)
Ambigrams.
actually i was looking for designs that hint Singapore rather than have it obviously splashed all over the backs, and by hint i mean really lightly hint, i certainly don't mean like putting some merlion hiding behind some orchids... kinda thing.
llamalamer - December 22, 2005 03:13 PM (GMT)
First of all, thanks for the replies
TanYh89: These cards are intended for sg magicians.
As for all others who contributed design ideas. Get some friend who is pro at photoshop or something and make your ideas into digital form! I guess that wont be hard...
Navarrone - December 22, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
I don't think it will be a good idea making it "look" SMC...
Instead,i think it should be featuring more of singapore
BuaYa - December 23, 2005 01:22 AM (GMT)
Ugh. Seriously, the 'Singapore' ceoncept is gonna kill the cards.
TayYH89 - December 23, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
Ok, customised Sg cards do not mean the cards must have Sg icons. Just make it unique. (and maybe something Sg.)
Incarneto - December 23, 2005 03:03 AM (GMT)
I have some ideas.. will send to you by the 31st.. hm... probably we can add some of the spore colours in? mainly red and white? designs... probably simple... include the core stuff like stars and cresents? and.. of course.. some stuff showing.. we're magicians?
sand king - December 23, 2005 05:22 AM (GMT)
hey how bout glow in the dark cards??

Ermm.."grow in the dark card" can be an idea also but try not to make it so complicated.
Well, yesterday i watch the Criss angel show about the Card through window trick. Pretty cool yeah! :off:
But i saw that Criss angel's own deck is nice too. It printed the eyes of Criss angel with colors of black and yellow. It gives me a suggestion that maybe can make that kind of deck?? :)

haha its glow in the dark not grow
sides you can ask them... may be they offer glow in the dark cards....
how often do you come across glow in the dark cards??
it will be good for florishers haha... do it in dim lights and wow neon green cards!!
Daraketh - December 23, 2005 10:58 AM (GMT)
yeah. glow in the dark would be cool.
but wouldnt that cost more?
iNvIsIbLe - December 23, 2005 11:51 AM (GMT)
Oops..Sorry wrong spelling. :P However, it is also good to make the cards stand out at night.
sand king - December 23, 2005 11:59 AM (GMT)
yeh... it will be cool!! then the florishers can do it with low lighting!! :)
as well as the people doing trick, haha this is my full idea...
-the pips on the cards are glow in the dark
-the back of the card is glow in the dark
(sorry i cant think of a good design.... for the back)
but the glow in the dark feature wil be swell!
but... i dont really think it would be cost effective.... they may (or may not) charge more for glow in the dark....
but i hope they do offer this and people will surport it!!
wEn - December 23, 2005 02:04 PM (GMT)
frankly i don't mind paying more for glow in the dark card... but will that affect the quality of the deck?
Jeremy - December 23, 2005 03:21 PM (GMT)
sand king - December 24, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
oh well.... then we will just go with another alternative?
Daraketh - December 24, 2005 04:46 AM (GMT)
i think the cards might be slightly thicker as well, if u use glow in the dark..
[Ling] - December 25, 2005 05:11 AM (GMT)
I would go for the simple, elegant look.

Hi people.
There has been some time since this topic has been raised.
I am facing one problem.
No card designs.
I am wondering if fellow SMC people can follow up with some designs. Entries are still open. Take some time, design something, and design something unique for Sg Magis.
Thank you
To remind those aspiring designers, the email address is llamalamer@gmail.com. After 10 designs are in, the blog will be created for voting.
kazin - January 9, 2006 09:59 AM (GMT)
whats the size of card measured in inches? hehe.. sorry i forgot..
sand king - January 9, 2006 10:56 AM (GMT)
FuSiOn-X - January 9, 2006 02:41 PM (GMT)
Guess we should wait for the decision from SMC members instead...
Since they are the ones that created SMC forum...
Shouldn't we respect them since we are in SMC forum itself...
Sorry... No hard feelings...
cheers
sand king - January 10, 2006 01:06 AM (GMT)
yeh but dont we get a say?
TayYH89 - January 10, 2006 02:38 AM (GMT)
Not to be offensive in anyway.
This cards are for Sg, not for SMC only. So everyone should have a say.
SHANGHAIBeN - January 10, 2006 04:49 AM (GMT)
when is dateline?
i found that using just computer tools is hard to design detail and nice designs.
is it possible if i draw out the design? the side designs of the card is really hard to draw out using the computer.
and by the way. can we use the design concept of bicycles to design our own cards? ( using 40% of bikes design )
will USPCC void the design?
kazin - January 10, 2006 10:49 AM (GMT)
must we print at USPCC? its a bit far and pricey.. but their quality is good.. just wondering..
lukold - January 10, 2006 12:32 PM (GMT)
seriously do we have to make the deck for SG? why not just smc, it'd be awesome.
Russell - January 10, 2006 01:16 PM (GMT)
I think we should wait for one of the people in charge to say something before you start anything.
llamalamer - January 10, 2006 02:41 PM (GMT)
Hey guys...
Just want to reply to your replies (erm..)
shanghaidunk: try not to use USPCC original designs. If you are thinking of replacing the rider with the SMC logo (or anything like that) into the bike design, I'm afraid that USPCC might reject it for copyright reasons.
kazin: I need you guys to suggest other companies to print the cards. So far USPCC is my option.
Dateline would be the end of January. If I cannot receive the deisgns (10 minimum) by then. I'm afraid I have to call it off...
P.S. So far there is one already.. 9 to go...
llamalamer - January 10, 2006 02:44 PM (GMT)
Oh by the way...
If you want to draw out the designs, get someone with a scanner to scan it into a computer picture format then send me.
