Title: Any Small, Simple Close Up Tricks?

blueheaven - January 4, 2006 09:07 AM (GMT)
I'm going to a wedding party this Sunday and I'm thinking of doing some small, simple close up tricks just to entertain the people.
I'm going to do a "Pairing" and a "Spectator's card" using an ordinary pack of cards.
But I want to do some small tricks using items that can be found in a party such as toothpicks, glasses, coins, etc
So any suggestions of what type of tricks are suitable for this event?

Spoon/Fork bending will go well, unless you replace what you used.

There is many things you can do with objects you can find.. My advice don't do spoon bending or fork in wedding dinner lol .... :D just try to use your creativity and your knowledge in sleights :D

You can try metal bending like it was mentioned earlier, but REMEMBER to check the spoons/forks there BEFORE performing. Probably try a few bends under the table etc.

P.S. Those high-class spoons/forks are practically UNBENDABLE; super thick and hard.

I wan to say it is not unbendable but I won't wan to spoil any of the cutlery there won't be nice on some one wedding day... :D So my advice avoid if you still wan to do it then it really up to you lol

I could try using a trick similar to Raven to make the ring disappear
Well anyway, is there a metal bending trick that can be restored after it is done?

My friends and I had some fun doing stuff like Pinnacle, disappearing ciggie, etc.

We had loads of fun and laughter with "flight of the paperballs". Gets a good laugh all the time, but make sure you clean up after that.

Finally, one advise is, don steal the limelight of the groom and bride. Just do a few simple tricks and thats it. Let all the attention be on the newly wed.

CHEERS! ^_^

I suggest floating rose by kevin james or simple coin vanishes and reproduction. You can even show card magic that involve the groom and the bride .Well, you should try to make your magic as romantic and happening as possible but don't do those stuff like spoon/fork bending, razor blade swallowing. I find that these are not appropriate to do at wedding dinner.

It'd be good to do those effects mentioned above if you already do them.

If not, this sunday is rather short for proper practise.

Dont do it at all.

I'm not sure what I'm gonna say will go down well with you guys but In my honest opinion, unless your hosts asks you to perform or you specifically get his permission, its not so polite to try to steal the bride and grooms spotlight.

I guess performing for 1 and 2 friends seated at your table is ok, but to try to do more is kinda ....can't find a better word here...showoff.

just my 2 cents.

farbird - January 11, 2006 10:51 AM (GMT)
can try coin vanish using "revolution"

quite a nice coin vanish...

fork and spoon effects will be good...

anything to do with cups and mugs will be great also...

impromptu..

cards seems a bit out of place in a dinner..

ring flight perhaps ?

on the bride's diamond ring?

hehe

There's a lot of stuff can be done in wedding parties especially if u use i.t.
as your gimmick, other that that u also can make tricks using:-
napkin (torn & restore)
fork & spoon (metal bending) or zombie routine
chopsticks (penetration tricks)
salt shaker (vanishing act)
shot glass- coin thru rubber tricks
card tricks
mental tricks
dice tricks
match box/ matches
rubber band
champagne cork (like horseman cuff tricks)
beer caps
butter knife tricks-paddle tricks)
lastly your charming persona as the biggest magic.

dtjk - January 13, 2006 11:31 AM (GMT)
Whatever you do, dont do too much, or you'll be the spotlight, instead of the new couple.

And I dont think doing romantic stuff is good either. For example, Appearing Rose; who do you give the rose to after you finish the trick? The bride? The groom will probably comb you after that.. Haha.

UNLESS, you can pass it to the Groom, and make it as a joke that he should give it to his Bride, but I dont think that is very nice as well.

A few tricks, to build up the atmosphere. You can do more tricks during your wedding next time. Hahaha.

Here are a few suggestions:
1. $100 Bill Switch

2. Wedding ring off cord, or larger ring off rope

3. Card to Wallet

4. ACR

5. Coin thru glass (Swadling's Double Decpetion)

6. Sponge Ball routine

7. Chink a chink with dice, sugar cubes etc

8. Matchbox penetration (needle thru brass block)

9. Rising cards (Devano deck, Kunalini, or Gary Plants version)

10. 4 coins across (I use 4 normal silver dollars, you could use a shell or extra coin)

All of these I have used successfully in walk around situations :D

Paradoxt - April 2, 2006 03:31 AM (GMT)
