Description: rubberband magic

JaJaBinksy - January 12, 2006 12:33 AM (GMT)
whats up with rubberband magic? i feel like its so stupid. ohhh wow it gets ripped then gets restored. i don't know. i just think it cheapens it. what do you all think?

rh89 - January 12, 2006 07:17 AM (GMT)
I beg to differ.

There are many effects possible with rubberbands, not just the "ripped and restored" effect which you mentioned.

Furthermore, they have the advantage of being a common, everyday object which can be found just about anywhere. So if you wanted to do something impromptu, it wouldn't be that hard to find a couple of rubberbands.

And if done properly and well, nothing should "cheapen" magic.

well, rubberband magic is powerful, and light and mainly impromtu. Just alot of unnesscary movments.

But hey, its not stupid alright.

Hmm, come to think about it, if it was, then Torn, Reformation, etc are stupid as well eh?

From the way you said it, I believe you're a card person? And cards ONLY? Right? :)

Rubberbands is one of the most impromptu things you can do; the closest to coins. What do you perform during times when you cannot use cards, such as at work, school, etc?

You have to get used with daily-life items that you can do magic with; coins, rubberbands, spoons or even magic that doesn't even require anything, such as mentalism and stuff like that.

And Ripped and Restored rubberband is not the only trick you can do. I dont think you've tried using rubberbands to show your friends tricks, right? Such as CMH, Pinnacle etc, it freaks people out; you'll know after you tried it. ;)

i don't think that rubber band magic is stupid because it can be easily accessible and impromptu. A simple tiny stuff can be magical too if you perform it visually. I think you should try to search more of the rubber band dvds. Daniel gracia's linking rubber band trick not bad also and the ring to rubber band. Dan harlan's band shark also not bad too. Well, try not to underestimate this tiny stuff. It can blow audience's mind........ :)

Lefty - January 12, 2006 11:48 AM (GMT)
Well, if you say rubber bands magic is stupid, then let me be the stupid one who likes rubber bands, sometimes, when your audiences (especially females) get kind of sick with cards, i will always do a "Star rubber band" rountine and end off giving them the star rubber band. :D

Do you own any DVD on rubberband magic? Once you see the potential of it, it may not very very powerful but i could say that it is definitely fun.

I always bring lotsa rubberband with me, not ust rubber band magic but my favourite CARD ON CEILING!!!!! :D

hmm agree to them all, what they are trying to say is dont judge a book by its cover, dosent mean that a lousy old rubber band is used for shooting your friend for tieing stuff.... this is part of everyday magic :) anytime some one ask you to a trick, you can pick up anything around you and perfrom, ect. rubber bands

cheers!

Look out for Dan Harlan's stuff on Rubberband Magic, powerful shit inside. Then you come back and let us know if rubberband is stupid or not.

Garcia's linking rubberband is not impromptu, and quite hard to do. But his ring to rubber band one is not bad.

Yup, i did the Star Grazer today for someone birthday, and gave it to her. Super respond. Hhaha i bought from illusionist 1 whole bag of Star Rubberbands.

I bought the Dan Harlan DVD, it is good enough to impress just with the content of the DVD itself. :) :D

You might not know someday, someone jsut throw you a ribberband and ask you to do something :D

Lefty - January 16, 2006 12:54 AM (GMT)
From me. Hahah, i got plenty of star rubberbands. :)

i_neveregret - January 16, 2006 07:27 AM (GMT)
mmm.... i thought he says it's a very powerful TRICK?

inquirer - January 25, 2006 02:01 AM (GMT)
i think that there is no such thing as a stupid trick... even the most simplest magic when presented correctly gives powerful impact to any audience. :D

GordonLi - January 26, 2006 10:59 AM (GMT)
i think then that theres no point learning "good magic" if anything can have a powerful impact with just presentation.

Incarneto - January 26, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
rubberband is wonder..sometimes when someone asks you to show some magic..cards may not be auitable...eg, in class..just pick anything eg rubberbands.. the effect of you being able to do magic with almost everything like even rubberbands really potrays you as a true magician..trust me.. its great.. CMH is enough actually.. haha! you don't have to know all rubberband tricks.. just master a few

HarapanOng - January 26, 2006 02:16 PM (GMT)
gordie made a nice comment. Gave me something to think about.

Anyway, rubberband... yes it can seem lame. But to me, picking up a rubberband and doing magic for people on the spot. It's really cool. It seems so impromptu (it actually IS impromptu) and so casual. Rubberbands are common items. It's perfect.

If you don't like it, try this: Play with it more. Even try inventing some routine with it. Watch more rubberband magic. Dan Harlan is good. Get ideas.

Crazy Man's Handcuff.

Lego - March 17, 2006 03:51 AM (GMT)
ooh.. that one is great lol.. did it for my friend who just stared at my hands for a few seconds after that..

Doublelifter - March 19, 2006 03:57 PM (GMT)
Watch Cyril performed a few rubberband tricks (including Lazy Man)
and one will not say its stupid anymore. I quess sometimes we need
someone with finesse and style to show us even rubberband can be
cool.

xuanweng - March 23, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)
Yeah. Rubberband tricks are cool. i was quite shocked when i saw 2 rubberbands linked together.

any other good videos on rubberbands other than those mentioned?
