william_wwong - September 10, 2004 12:48 AM (GMT)
Hi Fellow Magicians,

Got bitten by the Magic Bug 1.5 years ago. Consider myself to be an beginner-intermediate. Interested in mentalism and bizarre magick. Highly interested in Magic philosophy, theory and showmanship. Favourite magicians: Eugene Burger and Rene Lavand.

Regards,
William

Bizarre magic. That is something quite new to me. i've read somethings about it recently but i think that it's something very very new in singapore. Do share with us more about it.

Good to have you with us, hope to hear more from you soon.

Cheers

I read somewhere that there's two "types" of mentalism, one type is the common one where it's kind of like a card force (think of a no frm 1-9, multiply by 9, add 2 digits tog, subtract 5, find corresponding alphabet, think of a country, then think of an animal whose name starts with the second alphabet of the country's name) , but the other is more mystical and scary when performed correctly... I dun think I have come across any of the latter tho =(

Chris.

hi makanmonkey...
i would consider bizarre magick as a form of theatrical performance... the magician will immerse you fully in the atmosphere set by the story of the performance... it is very much like watching a play...
most plots of bizarre magick are associated with the supernatural, and as the story begins to unfold before you, magickal moments will happen... An example would be the performer as the role of a medium performing seance...
bizarre magick differs from normal mentalism in that it tends to involve the audience's emotion very strongly...

I've read some about it but dun really know much about it.

Maybe you would like to start a topic in Philosophy and Theory to tell us more about it?

Cheers
