Title: Which One To Get?

W3iRdKiD - February 6, 2006 04:28 AM (GMT)
I'm know this has been discussed lots of times in the forum but I still cannot tell which book to buy. From what I can see, card college and expert at the card table seem to be pretty popular choices among the people. So, my question now is which should I get? And what are the pros and cons of both books? Cost matters too :( If possible please add where I can get the cheapest copy of that book. Sorry if I sound cheapskate but I'm currently living on zero salary :(

If you need more info about me to comment, I'm currently a less than 1-month old baby :g: in the world of magic and so far, the only card trick (wouldn't really call it a trick since it isn't complete) is the under the hanky force. Have no idea what passes, DLs, ACRs are. So if any of you could help, I would gladly appreciate it. Thank you!

P.S. if there are any other great books that you would like to recommend please feel free to post too.

Mark Wilson's Complete Book of Magic will suit you. Read my review here.

I second Magicdow on this.

Mark Wilson's complete course in Magic is a weatlh of information..
covers basically everything...cards, coins, mentalism right up to stage.

My copy is about 12 years old now, and I still refer to it quite a bit.

Cool!! Thanks for the info. Shall go find it at Kino and see how it is. Might get the hard copy version. Sounds better :D Thanks!

i dont think theres hardcopy... i got mine soft from kino...

W3iRdKiD - February 6, 2006 07:08 AM (GMT)
Oh ok. Is the difference only in the covers? Or is the content different as well? From what I read from Magicdow it seems the hardcover has more content or something. Anyway I'm sorry but I'm full on my MSN. Thanks anyway! :D

There may be more content. But i never seen the hardcopy on sale. I only saw 1 hardcopy at street magic where the shop person showed it to me...

I have the hardcover version with a dustjacket.

But i'm not sure if they still got that version in print.

I've never seen the paperback unless you're refering to the small version "Cyclopedia of Magic".

My advice is to get the Hardcover as it contains more stuff. You can always get Borders to order it at no additional cost.

Alright!! Thanks everyone. Think I'll get Mark Wilson's Complete Course In Magic. Borders didn't seem to carry it the last time I went there. Shall go check it out. Thanks! :D
Anyway do I have to close the topic? Or the mods do it? Or is it left for future reference?

Sorry but just one last question I have to ask. Do tricks in the book require gimmicks of any sort?

Alexander - February 6, 2006 09:59 AM (GMT)
Nope they dont. But there are certain sections in the book where it teaches you to do tricks that requires certain gimmicks. But it teaches you how to make them as well.

Btw. I own the paper back one. And it is encyclopedia. I got it from a local dealer though.

Ok thanks for all the info! Hope can get the book in mint condition  Borders books always look kinda tattered coz of the frequent flippings by the customers.

<Aaron> - February 6, 2006 02:42 PM (GMT)
haha you could always request for a new copy at the customer service counter...oh btw you mean you can actually ask borders to order a book for you at NO extra costs?! :o

W3iRdKiD - February 8, 2006 11:17 AM (GMT)
Uh apparently can book at no extra costs arh, according to the other members. Going to get the book tomorrow. If both kinos no stock for the book then I'll probably go down to borders. Will tell you if there's really such a service if I end up having to book the book <_<
